  1. PETER, could it be coz yours is a DHP ? Malc
  2. I've tried this on several occasions with my own car and now drive in PWR mode over ECO coz I KNOW PWR mode, with my driving style, is more economic fuelwise ........ usually pretty quick off the mark and chasing the pants off boy racers at the lights etc ........... and long journeys when I can too of course Malc
  3. but it is nice sometimes to know you maybe have the greatest even tho' others may disagree .......... 1995 Ls400 was, and still might be, one of the greatest cars ever produced in it's time ...... surpassing many cars produced even today ............ my nephew's almost new, under warranty superb Nissan Qashqai, slight gearbox whine ..... oh dear sir, that's a new auto box for sure .......... under warranty but I expect several £'000's there might even be the odd Lexus or two with similar up-to-date diagnoses methinks and as for SatNavs, well, don't they update and upgrade and change with the wind .. if you'll pardon the expression Malc
  4. quite a long-in- the- tooth mileage I'll maybe be there in 6 years time with my Ls400 now on 233,333 miles ........ if covid allows it Malc
  5. and if there's a sheep hold-up blocking a side route on the NC500 going over terrain with zero signal ...... what use then I'm wondering ................... ah, it's ok, there's a 1930's road sign to guide you to the nearest inn for a quickie dram to soothe the nerves Gentlemen, all this talk of HUDs whatever is too teccy for almost 100% of the readers on this Forum and you're talking a foreign language methinks ........... sat nav does have it's uses, even maybe in Muckle Flugger ( did you actually spell it right ? ) but a simple phone with signal and the right route satnav with a pleasant lady to tell you what's going on is all you really need ... even to get to Paris from Alnwick I guess Built in screens and complex teccy satnavs needing expensive, or even inexpensive updating just probably isn't a necessity these days ........... the screens can be better used to forewarn you of the impending disaster arising from the TPMS mis-readings maybe Malc
  6. Richard, she looks very smart indeed and we all wish you well in achieving " top dollar " Malc
  7. yes I noticed it's " Deposit Taken " ........... well done those guys I've also had my eyes on a fabulous 1982 RR with 26k miles ? on that Classic site and the last time I looked it was " auction finishing " and at about £8600 Methinks my money could be on that RR for greater £££ appreciation to come BUT it's not me bidding for sure Malc
  8. now when one's driving " off piste " when doing the NC500 ............... just poodling around areas with just about zero signal and maybe roads that are often impassable with sheep etc .......... methinks my satnav might be my " nose " for directional stuff Oh for the joys of a car without all this hi tech sat nav stuff ..... bit like living without TPMS ..... how on earth could you .......... oh, and headlamps where you can't change a dead lightbulb and it's a £1000 a time for a new headlight ................ just where have we arrived in our car upgrades eh ! or should I say downgrades tbh The simplicity of an old Ls400 isn't a bad way forward ........... tape cassette and all Malc
  9. unless you drive a vastly superior Mk3 Ls400 ... all that cumbersome screen stuff . who really needs it Malc
  10. if you're tempted to stay with your existing insurer ..... a part of the final final deal could be to ask them what other incentives they might offer This time around after a little pressure .... it's a £20 voucher to actually spend at M&S and elsewhere .... sent by email they say ... insce was due and paid before 1st August but the voucher hasn't yet arrived . I'll give 'em a few more days to cough up tho' Malc
  11. aha ! my nephew has just covered his study ceiling with old Ordnance Survey maps of the local areas to his home .. to teach himself ( and his teen kids ) this concept of map reading too .... shows rivers, lakes etc too .. and all at the same time But I do have use of my mobile phone for useful and on the move directions, and of course she, ( the phone ) speaks to me too .......... even in my Ls400 .... who on earth needs a built-in Sat Nav system these days for heavens sake Malc

come come, get real with this please my kids are going to be in their 80's when I finally pop my clogs .... the grandkids will be in their 40's ........... many families the same sort of era lives too ... well, if they haven't made themselves a comfortable or whatever life long before they think they're relying on my mortal financial remains then their lives will be irreperably sad for a jolly long time to come Tax 'em to the hilt I say ........ someone's going to hopefully inherit my Ls400, well at least the pile of probable rust that remains .......... like mine Oh and Piers, well done, you survived .. see, I told you it was like a " walk in the park " only in your case on diazapan or whatever it was Best wishes Piers Malc
  13. James hi .... how did this all work out for you ? Malc
  14. on a modern'ish car that's fine BUT when one's claiming on a fully comp for a body part on say mine, 26 years young .... new doors are OEM unavailable and the temptation is by insurer to just write her off .......... repairs can often be achieved BUT the insurers have a policy ? it seems of just writing - off for the slightest cause for their ease of dealing with it all especially where an insurers specified repairer repair is simply several times what you and me can get from a local good indy capable of doing a 1st rate repair job anyway Mine's now Cat N coz of that ....... with a payout too of course but not that much in the great scheme of things Malc
  15. definitely down to the driver .... my Mrs is amazingly HEAVY on the brakes and I'm so light footed it's unbelievable her Honda Legend brakes last half the time of mine on the Ls400 and I just know if she was the main user on my car they would only last about 15k miles .. with me it's approaching 30/40k it's a huge factor in the wearing out of your pads I'm sure .... driving style Malc
  16. c'mon guys, that mobile phone is worth a couple of grand 😷 Malc
  17. hmm ! not sure showing the Ls400 with an expired MOT 5 years back in 2016 is that sensible .... agree on his comments though Malc

my take on all this is quite simply that we in the UK have an unprecedented healthcare business in both numbers of employees, staff, both medical and all other skills. carpenters, plumbers, plasterers and all ............... in unprecedented numbers for any business anywhere in the world apart from I guess the Red Army To understand how to cope with it all, let alone successfully manage it all must simply be impossible .......... and I mean impossible ............ all and any administrators have an uphill struggle to cope as is noted by the wearing down of even the boss in charge, the Minister for Health from time-to-time All these people do a phenomenal job and apart from the odd rogue that takes advantage that hopefully gets found out and prosecuted, hanged etc ...... I have nothing but praise for their usual dedication and care for the business they're all in .... that's keeping all us old buggers going to enjoy our Lexuss' ......... may our cars last as long as some of us eh ! Malc

this is now getting way-off the very serious subject matter for Piers ..... unless he's getting cheered a little by the usual diverting from the MRI issues which I think we're all actually making quite genuine and real light-heartedness of ............ from our real-life experiences over recent times Malc
  20. Happy Days when I had my own car sales business too ......... long back tho' ; and drive absolutely anything available............. never tend to make a claim for us ultra careful drivers Malc

someone mentioned the " noise " element ...... I visited 3 hospitals in all recently for assorted MRI scans and the noise was more prevalent in the older technology machines, the newer was as quiet as a mouse ............ going to sleep was an option that didn't elude me some of the time cool calm and collected and not a care in the world with the brilliant NHS treatment with amazingly costly technology that in the last case with the super-doopa machine seemed to be on lease to the NHS and I'm told popped in at about £3500 a go Thank heaven for the NHS eh ! Malc

    MRI

Oh and Piers, I forgot to mention It's probably a great idea to have someone accompany you on the trip to the hospital .. firstly not to worry about the car and parking .. and secondly to share that cuppa with afterwards You have absolutely nothing to worry about with the MRI scan, rest assured Malc
  23. no I don't think so at all AWD is on one only in the UK Ls460 by the way ! It's standard on my Honda Legend .... but has to be Engaged when needed, like in ice and snow whatever It's a different concept on Land Rovers etc I believe you can have 2 or 4 wheels driving independently with 4WD I think the gearbox set-up is probably different Just things I've read in the past .... it's all a tad tooooo technical for me tho' I'm afraid Malc

    MRI

Piers hi, I fully understand your initial worries and concerns and thoughts BUT there's absolutely nowt to concern yourself over at all ..... I've had a few this past year or so with my cancer diagnosis and radiotherapy and an op ...... believe me you're better off having the scans and actually knowing what's in store for you to then go thru' a little more DISCOMFORT, coz that's all it all is when you know the end result is that, hopefully, you'll wake up every morning being thankful for a wonderful day ahead of you ....... coz, that's what it will be, every darned day will be another wonderful day ahead of you whatever the weather and the skies have to offer ,,,,,,,,,, it will be another wonderful, amazing, fulfilling day Those MRI scans are a 'walk in the park' .... take yourself for a coffee and a bun afterwards .. treat yourself ....... you'll have earnt it Best wishes whatever Malc
  25. is it really AWD or just the normal 4 WD ? Malc
