Nissan Leaf - anyone driven or own one?
Malc replied to cruisermark's topic in Lexus Owners Club Lounge
also over those 10 years I might have also saved myself heaps of worry and concern by not having a brand new car every 3 years or so, to also then hand back totally unblemished, washed and polished ..... and saved myself a further ............. 12 months x 10 years x £ shall we say £350 per month ?? = a staggering £ 42,000 . AND I wouldn't have had the quality, reliability maybe ,,,,,, comfort and luxury too of my Ls400 so a simple saving of maybe £42,000 do my old fashioned banking maths add up guys ? Malc -

I've not been able to ascertain anything useful that's definitive with my 1995 Ls400 ..... my indy thought I should be quite ok AND a few years ago driving thru' Italy ( I think ) I had no option but to refill with the E10 variety. No problems then at all but it's use was quite limited, just two tank fulls So just to be on the safe side I think I'll be using the Premium stuff for the future ....... probably Malc -

I think I'm going to start to refill using the Premium stuff too ........... don't want to risk 'owt with my dear old lady and after all, you're all suggesting the mpg economy improves coz of it too Malc -

£15k LS430

I wonder if this car is from that same group of garages with 1000 cars in stock ..... all those extras ............ that were always just standard too good MOT history though ...... and the price is still too rich for most methinks ...... needs to be a third of it's mileage for this price to be achieved ........ " chancers " eh ! Malc -
wot astounds me is that they say they actually have 1000 cars in stock ............ how on earth can that be and they are all " rare " or whatever ....... I really don't believe any garage or group garage sales can put into place such good care and attention as they profess .... a garage to steer clear of methinks ... well, assuming the buckled wheels allow you to Malc

now on this sticky point .... I too am again suffering from this dreadful failing in my car .. from time to time . it's got past the often, in the past usual " gentle thump " to remedy and it's learnt to only come back to life when it's in the mood ........... these old lady's eh ! What I have noticed is that it now sometimes, when it does burst back into life, mis-measures the speed by about 10mph too ...... maybe for about 20 mins before it seems to get it's actual speed measuring about right ......... I can't imagine there's a fix for this ............ is there do you think ? , well, besides chucking it all away and buying a replacement speedo that when I enquired from Lexus some years ago was .. wait for it .. some £3500 Malc

Nissan Leaf - anyone driven or own one?
Malc replied to cruisermark's topic in Lexus Owners Club Lounge
come come now, write back the lack of depreciation over 10 years, my car value has quite appreciated, not only by the 10 years x £1000 = £10, 000 BUT also the uplift from the initial purchase of £1400 too I'm an ex-banker, I do understand some of these strange happenings Malc -
Nissan Leaf - anyone driven or own one?
Malc replied to cruisermark's topic in Lexus Owners Club Lounge
OMG I'm totally useless at financials then....... . I know that ... I've only ever seen appreciation over these last 10 years on my car purchase ........ and I'm an ex-banker too amongst my life style work choices Malc -
methinks if Lexus are telling you to throw possibly £6k at a replacement gearbox etc then one should analyse when the flush / oil and ATF filter change was done and at what miles and why on earth nobody at Lexus advised you there was a problem ! Seems somewhat strange ....... have you got more to this tale to impart ? Malc

going back to the mid 90's when I had my car sales business we decided to try to sell bikes . and I mean scooters actually ... via a good UK guy who oversaw the production of " his " product in China ................. the first few months produced brilliant good quality fantastic for value bikes ........... then as above, inevitability set in, just as we were likely to start to order and sell in some useful and profitable volume ... the quality of his product fell like a stone . he was horrified and told us not to buy them, he couldn't oversee the production run 24/7 ........ just before we started in earnest .... a lucky escape for my business BUT set my thought train forever to be wary of Chinese products thereafter ...... a simple salutary first hand tale Malc -

and I'm assuming they ding £££ you some more if you dare so much as get a " ding " or a dent or a scratch or anything resembling normal wear and tear too that you would be ok accepting on your own owned car ....... or is it that everyone with one of these non-owned cars, when it goes back, uses one of these valeting / fix-a-dent guys to get the car to " perfection " to save being dinged ££££ lots more for the inevitable penalty charges upon return to the real real owner, the finance company ...... who would just pop the car into the auction anyway maybe ... dents, warts, dings and all Malc -

never one to skimp on servicing and using where possible OEM stuff where it matters most ..... 21+ years driving 250k miles or so in my 3 x Ls400s is testament to how these wonderful cars can be when sensibly looked after mechanically and with actually, in my case, quite shallow ££££ pockets ............... I've never actually been inside a Lexus Main Dealership now then . if I won the Euromillions this week ( does she do it I wonder ! ) I might go get myself this amazing Bentley S3 I've been hankering after for ages and then ......... permanently rent the recovery truck for it to go on down to my indy for those constant likely fixes Malc -

I think mine were bought for 100k miles life so the next change could be at @ 300k, maybe 5/6 years at " normal " motoring ( that 300k less the now 233k ) wot a waste maybe for prior owners not to have enjoyed her for at least 23years of elegant, luxurious cruising whatever Malc -
Need a second car. Thoughts, opinions and ideas needed please.

honestly when I'm, in my Ls400, sitting alongside a modern Mini Clubman Estate I feel somewhat dwarfed and overwhelmed ! Malc -

Malc replied to e-yes's topic in Lexus ES 300h Club
something wonderful and smart, low on maintenance ( if it ever needs very much ) .......... reliable and very very comfy, could last you for many years with just about trouble free motoring, mpg won't matter a hoot as it's not driving too far, well, ........... go treat yourselves for max £5k with the potential for capital appreciation too .............. how about a Ls400 ........... not expensive to insure nor road tax either Just a thought and it's a Lexus Malc -
New E10 Fuel
Malc replied to Tinonline's topic in LS 400 / Lexus LS 430 / Lexus LS 460 / Lexus 600h / Lexus 500h Club
Everyone ... dos anyone have an answer please .. or some thought process that's useful here please ? Average price of Premium Fuel compared to average price of the old 95 now E10 octane fuel ............ and the likely %%% reduction in mpg from the old 95 E10 How does this stack up with %%% increase in average fuel consumption to cover those same miles AND the effect of increased bad emissions ( CO2 etc ) from the increased fuel consumption, albeit no longer E10 but old fashioned Premium Fuel ? or even indeed the old fashioned E5 fuel ! Have I explained myself ok .. it's challenging for me to know I'm trying to get at the likelihood that replacing E5 with E10 will actually result in greater emissions into the atmosphere due to more ltrs per same miles driven and together with the likely extra costs incurred by switching to premium Fuel covering those same miles rather than staying with ( if one could ) the old E5 The latter is a bit spurious I guess as the old E5 has now vanished Thank you Malc -
but firstly I would check with Lexus at the Centre that your specific car was attended to from new'ish when the 1995 Ls400 had a recall to replace the Starter Motor If it wasn't done at the recall then I think it's incumbent upon them to do it now ...... hopes 10 years ago when I bought mine from a guy on here I also asked that Q of Lexus and mine had been changed ......... I didn't otherwise know, Lexus will know I'm sure It's a long long job to deal with it for sure Malc

firstly please don't compare a curved banana with a beautiful peach seriously, the Ls400 is a totally different creature and there are some silly collectable car prices around right now your control arms needing replacing at that small mileage seems a bit odd ... were they MOT advisories etc ? I'm wondering or just good housekeeping by you If you sold your car what would you want to buy and how much do you want to " invest " in the next one ? Do you enjoy spending money on your cars ? ... 96k miles seems quite small and with the cambelt and control arms done then surely you have already invested in some future-proofing Maybe Lexus main dealer servicing etc for your 18 year young car could be a little OTT when an indy might charge you a third of the Lexus labour charges I'm sure others with express experience of your model will have some more reasonable views than me Good luck whatever Malc

Dreadful experience and worry for you just starting off ! Did you do the journey in the Ls400 ? got mine at the Toyota dealer just 150 yds along the road ... I thought where all the Lexus spares and servicing might have been whatever Hope you didn't pay more than about £80 all-up ? I think mine was about £78 with a free courtesy fitting .. maybe 18 months or so ago and in mid winter if memory serves me Malc -
