  1. no idea about your model BUT in the Ls430 forum there's plenty of advice .. depends on age of car / model can be a simple washer on the early Ls400s to many £'00s for the parts to fix on later models some 2nd hand parts availability or from a breaker maybe ? BUT as above, it should be a problem for the seller to sort out before purchase unless you're happy to do it yourself etc Good luck Malc

  4. anybody got a really good answer to this issue of cleaning / clearing aged headlamp covers that aren't glass ??? I ask this coz I'm about to start on the 2006 Honda Legend headlamps and if no-one has a definitive answer that actually works then I'm thinking to just use 400 grain wet'ndry and see how long that lasts I can't think it will be doing any lasting damage over and above the wear and tear from age and UV that's already caused to these 15 year old lenses my indy had a " go " a couple of years back and that lasted about a year ........ I'd imagine the quality of the plastics has just about finally deteriorated to the point of being really non-serviceable at 15 years of age and 140k miles New lenses would doubtless cost more than the car's worth maybe ... replacements from a breaker would doubtless be of similar quality to existing It's still MOT'able methinks so there's not too much rush to sort it out ANSWERS please everyone ...................   6. yep for sure but it's even worse when you move house mid stream and then they really really clobber you with usually zilch reason other than the underwriters think that, on that day, your risks increase hugely And then when you renew at a later time, maybe a few years down the line........... woweeee, the premium reverts to a sensible one and all along they were taking the pi-s you always lose, they always win ...... oh, and that was Saga by the way back in 2012 ....... I've been back with Saga now for a short while BUT never forget these lessons tho' eh ! Malc

  8. The Esso in my area is a red labelled E5 99* octane rating The others seem to be green labelled E5 97 octane ......... without the * Malc

  10. Earlier today I followed a car cleaning van that was recommending it's SOY product being used .... can't remember anything else about it tho' Soy has many uses .. Chinese too Maybe worth investigating ? Malc

  13. apologies for interjecting here ........... is this not a somewhat dated phenomenon.... I'm remembering some 33 years ago in my brand new 1988 Vauxhall Carlton 1.8 the radio aerial was actually a red line integrated / embedded into the front screen seemed eminently sensible then .. and now too if anyone does it Malc

Mike, after some thought, I do recollect this being raised before on the Forum .... no idea where tho' And coming to light now maybe particularly that E10 / E5 fuels whichever one, is susceptible to rotting aluminium parts etc ...... other posts here too Good luck in your search .... can't believe someone clever with their hands couldn't produce a copycat fuel filler pipe to MOT standards for a comparative few pence Malc

My quite negative reviews on AF are on the Forum from time to time I share your non-positive thoughts 100% Malc I understand, correct me if I'm wrong someone please, that AF owns it's own car insurance company, and underwriters and assessors too Or it might be the other way around BUT they are all " in it together " and there is absolutely no reason why they aren't fully au fait with whatever cars and risks there are out there

Mr Vlad, or indeed anyone else with a maths degree Have any maths / research been done yet to indicate if using E5, whatever the octane, 97 or 99, actually improves mpg over and above the new E10 ( with reduced petrol content presumably ) and how that works out in ££££ cost benefits ... if any at all ? OR INDEED if there really is zero point in even trying to work this all out at this stage Thank you for any help Malc AND I do know that whatever the above results we, each of us, really has to stick to the newly recommended fuel for our car

  19. on a lighter.... electricity note woooosh my son-in-law with his new EV ( on PCP I think ) has just told me last night that his home EV Charging point no longer qualifies for the reduced charge/cost££ rate that he took when he took the new car just a very few months back .... due to global situation I guess ........... and his British Gas tariffs he's with Oh one of the upcoming joys of an EV these coming days and months Malc

  21. nope, in my limited experience a few years ago with the simple to my mind, but clearly complex to them, changing a headlight bulb on my then Mazda 323f💖 with poppy-up headlights, they simply refused to carry on ............ and not charge Leaving me headlight-less and winking Malc

Oh my YES 😵 .......... that sure is an age old issue with the Ls430, 460 and 600 .......... there's a likely potential leak at some time from the radiator to transmission connection at the radiator and the leakage simply destroys the gearbox .... it's an inherently bad design from scratch ...... and that does involve changing the radiator BEFORE it destroys the gearbox .......... and it's not just Lexus either I've read on here too I was unaware a tell tale sign could be loss of coolant from the reservoir, but of course that could readily happen There's people on here who have experienced this issue for sure, first hand and will hopefully come to your rescue with more appropriate advice Thankfully the Ls400 doesn't suffer from this ignominy There's plenty of write-ups on here about it when you start searching Good luck with it all .................... if it is this then it will need sorting very very promptly and could be a comparatively cheap fix to replace the radiator, of course with the correct one for your specific car as I've also read that there are variations at the hose connection points too Malc

Car insurance is just standard, just tell them and see if you need a special document .. plus a good checkover on the car by my indy before I go to make sure there's no likely surprises in store .... there never has been to date ........... and just the normal RAC European breakdown etc cover in my RAC Membership stuff ......... that's free these days too for me as I seem to have been a paid up member for 50+years ........ and never needed that abroad either touch wood .......... Health insurance, well, just the standard stuff with my Nationwide FlexPlus policy takes care of that but I guess there'll need to be an add-on next trip as I'm now 71 Nothing over the top for sure .............. 9 days won't get you far tho' ............. where u thinking of going ? Malc Oh and don't forget the need for a UK badge/logo on the back and removal of the GB logo BUT check the up-date on the Govt website for that just before you go in case that changes too M

I've had my car laser 4 wheel alignment etc done a few times over the years and it's always been fine with necessary adjustments to take it from " red " to " green " on the computer printouts .... but then I'm on stock / standard / off the production line everything on my car ...... with the exception of possibly renewables from time to time ............ Upper Control Arms and things like that ... but it's always been standard or to standard Toyota OEM Lexus product I've had new tyres of course over the years ( now on 234k miles ) The garage doing the alignment will surely only ever work from the Lexus / Toyota set standard figures produced for him at the Centre ( wherever that may be and off the computer ! ) and when one has anything but standard OEM set-up on-going, the Alignment Guy is never going to be able to set it all up in accordance with the " correct " setting/ figures ....... to me that makes so much common sense Just don't expect the impossible from a normal human being eh ! There are possibly guys out there who have experience with re-setting alignment with specific different to original, off the production line changes to one's car BUT how you would ever find that rare individual, well, only recommendation will cover that one maybe But to expect an ordinary guy to set things up with non-standard anything is almost asking the impossible in my humble opinion Malc
