  1. then I guess it's time for a party, a CIGAR and TEA Party ................... someone's Drawing Room, Library or Study would be a superb venue .............. my place is a tiny 400 year old cottage by ( but never in ) the water on Sheppey in Kent ...... happy to travel much further afield if there's any of us able to host and garner a collection of our fine Lexii beasts conducting us to this Cigar and Tea Party ......... before Christmas ?? Malc
  2. I popped this onto another thread the other day .............. NOW then, what's the C02 carbon footprint of a brand new car delivered to one I wonder, say a brand new Ls Just trying to evaluate the benefits, carbonwise / climate saving wise, of changing to a brand new Ls ...... besides the obvious " benefit " of reducing my bank balance by @£100k all-up ........ replacing my aged 26 year young Ls400 that owes me about £600 yet to fully depreciate after 10 years of ownership at about 12k miles a year Your well considered thoughts please one and all Thank you Malc
  3. no no no, don't be silly ...... repose in your library, much better for smoking methinks ! Malc
  4. well I used to smoke the occasional cigar , never a pipe ......... and cigarettes probably about 50 years ago I stopped still got a half smoked one in a metal tube in my car waiting for the stressful day she breaks down on me .... so hopefully it will remain there unsmoked forever my nephew is a bit of a connoisseur of cigars but blimey, the prices can range from expensive to stupidly so .. cheroots and whiffs also come to mind if you're wanting a trial run OR maybe just buy yourself a single one from a ( if there's one ever near you ) a tobacconists ... but maybe they all fell to the wayside years ago Churchill smoked cigars and lived to a ripe old age of 90 ........... might be considered young tho' these days Good luck in your search ............. it can be a calming and satisfying experience to just sit, Hamlet like, on a park bench savouring your very own ( conjure up the image please ) Malc
  5. OMG for heavens sake, just buy yourself a brand new car
  6. My nephew, who has custody of my 1932 Triumph ( mentioned before on this forum ) was last year's Master of his Livery Company ........ Happily smokes a pipe and cigars ..... never seen him with a cigarette though The Worshipful Company of Tobacco Pipe Makers & Tobacco Blenders Malc
  7. 'Twas ever so ......... in my 20's all this more or less applied ..... huge mortgage payments of £12.50 a month ...... just about impossible to service from my salary at the time ... and thus it all goes around again ...... but a £300k mortgage vs my £4,600 mortgage .. well, it's all relative .. and I'm guessing my aged mindset won't allow me to spend £100k on a new car whatever it might be ....... irrespective of the affordability factor ............. and foreign travel, well, it's been a major wonder for me to enjoy the vistas of places anew ............... penguins in Patagonia ......... true Pampas grasses ............ the Rockies and even what some might think to be a boring old South Africa, veldt and the Rift .......... please please spend one's money wherever you wanted ..... cars for some, houses for others, holidays for some ( eventually when covid allows ) OR indeed " have it all " .............. but for me, well, my aged and antique, birthday today 26 years young, soopa doopa power busting 4ltr V8 Ls400 cannot be surpassed by a new or more modern motor ( BUT oh dear, where's that Bentley S3 I've been hankering after but just won't ever buy ) Enjoy spending on whatever one wanted .... but maybe NOT go into silly debt over it all NOW then, what's the C02 carbon footprint of a brand new car delivered to one I wonder, say a brand new Ls ........ does anyone know ? is it even possible to ascertain ............. thoughts on a postcard please or maybe even a New Thread ? Malc
  8. good god, this is such an indictment of Lexus Dealers then Malc
  9. got back home yesterday after a 672 mile, 5 day round trip visiting relatives in the West Country ... no E5 petrol refuelling problem nor driving challenges apart from seeing all those poor souls driving to the West Country in Qs and Qs and Qs for their half term holidays ................. big Qs on the M3 jct joining the M25 that added at least 30 mins to our journey home last night but maybe that's a normal sort of congestion problem ..... so rarely go that way these days and boy does she move. the V8 4 ltr of my now 26 years young car, birthday 26th October ........ must have quite shocked some of those comparative dawdlers in their super doopa BMWs, Mercs and Audis, who, flashing me to " push me outta the way " couldn't believe the sharpness of response and speed my dear old lady could show them, a clean pair of heels syndrome Malc
  10. oh my, brilliant back seats environment, wonder if, as the driver, you'll ever get to sit there and love it ...... I can count on one hand the number of times I've sat in the back of any of my Ls400s over the years and miles looks a lovely car, well done Malc
  11. Alan hi, you now know it's a hugely long complex and probably professional job to replace .......... my indy mechanic is a little " off the boil " taking on any other customers right now BUT if you wanted me to pursue your request with him then do message me privately if you wish with your number etc and I will ask him for you Best wishes Malc
  12. Aha, this has only very recently developed a s a manageable fault on mine .............. c'mon now, it's not an MOT Advisory or issue .. the car isn't moved during the MOT ............. you now know it's about 11mph " wrong " most of the time so just remember that whilst driving and if you're very worried just hang behind other motorists ........... don't your senses let you know what speed you're doing ? ..... mine seem to You might get someone somewhere to actually fix it fully BUT for me anyway, it certainly isn't an issue to scrap the car for If you get the Rochester guys to fix the problem please please do let us know. I live close to there and would go to them if it's all positive for you Best wishes Malc
  13. when my Mk3 had the same issue a few years ago ....... underneath the wood trim encasing the gear knob, next to the centre armrest, there's a wind-down knob to turn off the sound ............. that's worked for me, from sound advice on the forum that was after buggering about with the main battery, fuses and all else ... my indy did it for me from this forum's advice ...... I guess you have to be gentle not to fracture the wood fascia Good luck Malc
  14. Laura, why on earth would you want to sell it ? Malc
  15. well guys, I loved the colour of my first Mk1 Ls400 .. pearlescent white .......... not sure the Mk1 at that age ( very early and with 15" wheels ) even had steering column rake and reach fully ! I'd also be asking if the suspension MOT Advisories resulted in OEM/Toyota original replacements rather than maybe the rubbish BluePrint stuff ... in my experience Be nice to see this early car get good money AND then be used as Ls400 should be Malc
  16. totally agree BUT if it's a freebie ........... not these days eh ! ......... company car perk ................. or even one's own out of pocket purchase, it's a great feeling for a few days BUT then when it's your own and realise the general / usual, huge depreciation that's hitting your pocket, then good secondhand purchases usually make more sense .............. Just my simple view as an aged and many many car purchase worn experienced motorist Malc
  17. heavens above 4 years down the line, no idea ........ just the fuel filler pipe words " spoke to me " when my mind was uplifted by your comments Malc
  18. they're car dealers and will always act in their very own best interests for sure ... your interests are important of course BUT clearly secondary to their own and never used them on mine ....... not too uncommon on a 26 year young Ls400 tho' This is the real world of superb and early Lexus motoring Malc
  19. aren't these the old fashioned smoked WHOLE herring, innards and all, hung, grilled and then ( gulp ) eaten not for the faint-hearted and strong stomached amongst you Malc
  20. Steve, we are all " bowing " to your predeliction to Japanese Royalty .... you do of course understand that if ever you were to do anything wrong in the future you may have to commit " seppuku " Thank heavens most of us are exempt as we only have a Lexus ... not a Celsior ...... god help any owner eh ! Celsior uses an amino acid buffer with histidine to prevent cellular acidosis, and the amino acids histidine and glutamic acid serve as the cellular energy metabolism substrate. Antioxidative Malc
  21. Well I'm not so sure about seaside corrosion you know .. if it is that For probably all it's life now, 26 years and 235k miles ( just about ), mine has been owned by someone close by the sea For the past 10.5 years and 110k miles in my ownership, never been garaged, hardly ever washed and just about as close to the sea as you can get, mostly just a road width away from the beach / quay and sea ...... the only discernible corrosion is the offside rear wheel arch and after the last MOT when I asked my indy to specifically check all rust issues out he advised me that was all there was ......... nowt else ........ yet ! So let's see what the next MOT and review ( next month sometime ) shows up ....... and hope any seaside closeness isn't going to ever be an issue for me Malc
  22. but probably not to stay as low as they are right now either 😵 Malc
  23. just topped up yesterday prior to our 200 mile trip to Somerset tomorrow ...... empty forecourt and zero E10 ( thankfully ) and the Tesco Momentum is at 142.9 ........... so maybe when the real fuel arrives, E10, the prices will nudge up a few pence Malc
  24. surely that was pound note days ..... remember those green things ! Malc
  25. It's truly amazing that every single car in those piccys, on that street, looks pristine and gleaming ..... now why can't ours be like that eh ! Malc
