  1. and last nights huge blustery rain might have impregnated too maybe ?😭 Malc
  2. clean the sun drenched UV clouded plastic lenses maybe ! Malc
  3. Rockauto and Amayama readily supply to us in the UK ok Malc
  4. sorry to be a bit of a gloom monger this morning ... here in very wet and windy Kent . in olden .......and even present day times with all cars I've heard of, the MOT Tester will definitely insist on seeing the ABS light come on at start of ignition and then go " off " when the engine starts ...... I think that so early on in the life of your car, ( only 21 years ) unless there's some MOT " avoid " certainty with your specific model, then it would be an automatic MOT failure AND certainly have implications for your current running insurance if you was to have an accident and this fault .. if it is such ... came to " light " (if you'd pardon the expression) ...... as it's NOT MOT serviceable right now Methinks back to whomsoever you bought the car from to fix ...... if that's possible and maybe enquiries of the last MOT Tester .. if you have this scheme in the beautiful Republic Malc
  5. thanks for this BUT this paper was issued some 6 years ago ( and I presume the analysis data might have changed in that time ) AND more importantly, jumping I admit to Sec C . there's zero mention of the upholstery, glass, electronics, cabling etc that " form the whole " of a vehicle to be manufactured and recycled That really is quite a part in the CO2 carbon footprint issue too is it not ? I still await seeing somewhere that ALL this true data ..... including the delivery of parts train mentioned above ........... is considered rather than the piecemeal data that whomsoever ( especially maybe Tesla and the EV brigade ) want us to see Malc
  6. nothing like a 4 ltr V8 to get you to your destination and maybe back with zero angst about fuel ....... de-stress and dump the prospect of a silly ( for you ) EV Malc
  7. so it's not just me that has this inability to quite understand Civil Service Speak ...... I'm battling with wordage within ATOL documentation from the CAA ......... HMG wordage at the moment ..... I'm sure it all makes perfect sense .... well, I think I'm sure, surely it must do, it's from HMG sources Now I'm not an unintelligent sorta guy ( my thoughts anyway ) and with quite a good education and of some age and experience of Govt wordings, wordage and HMRC and stuff like that BUT, oh my, the gobbledegook with the CAA is amazing.............. any holidaymakers here ever tried to understand any of it ? OR indeed any Travel Agents too ? ( that's me btw ) Cest Le Vie ............ I'll make another coffee then Malc
  8. Not good and sorry to hear your tale of woe .......... .... you can hang on to the old and serviceable bits if indeed you keep the car another 150k miles to actually need them the MOT A reason why my indy always takes my car to his local MOT station of choice where he can be with, and chat through the whole of the MOT Tester's thoughts and observations in situ ... and remedy immediately if it's a simple fix, or take away and fully understand the issues to be resolved when returning for the MOT revisit in the timescale allowed .......... this also allows him leeway to understand what, if any, Advisories might be forthcoming to address for the " next year " MOT OK yes, I pay thru' the nose for this attention ......... full MOT price of £55 BUT it gets done and dusted and with full confidence that this really is the cheapest and most efficient way thru' the annual MOT .......... at the time of the annual service too of course .......... and always an ok bill to pay ..... if ever there could be an ok bill of any sort to pay that is Malc
  9. wouldn't you need to check on tensile strength and teccy stuff like that to make sure it was fit for purpose ! Malc
  10. mine on purchase ( off here some 10 years ago ) had a broken spring, replaced by the vendor ........ and some 110k miles further down the line and 235k miles all up still has the remaining original 3 and the " new " one all intact ......... brilliant ride compared to most, or indeed all other cars I've been in forever ........ fingers xd they are still all ok at the next MOT and annual service mid November Malc
  11. wouldn't the technical people at Lexus at the Centre ( wherever that may be ) have all this info at their fingertips ... or close maybe Malc
  12. Yup, the full force of the Law, give 'em all the new maximum 2 years inside to contemplate a more useful way to ponder upon how to Insulate Britain Malc
  13. absolutely no point losing use of your car for more than the one day a year when all can be sorted ( hopefully ) .... whatever your car Malc
  14. and then of course into the new fandangled Hydrogen Powered cars for sure ................ when EVs are consigned to the tip as are diesels to be now ......... which were so so pushed in our faces as the " green " way to go all those years back and of course this article, along with all others they push out at us, seem to totally ignore the manufactured carbon etc cost of producing the whole car ....... you know, doors, bonnet, boot, seats , shell etc ................ then it's scrappage after it's 100k miles/kms life it's all on emissions and battery life and production ........ where's the true figures I wonder ! When someone with reputational knowledge can actually be totally honest and truthful about it all, and the climate's need to scrap all older cars, buses, trucks etc then I'll try to understand what's being said ............ but until then ................ do you think anyone's going to be able to answer my initial Q ? Malc
  15. and diesel of course ! whatever the merits of super gluing oneself to the tarmac I just hope they do it in the pouring rain and the super glue never manages to be removed and their skin gets permanently damaged and irreperably so ........ with no assistance from the NHS who might otherwise be able to help BUT Oh Dear ! the skin graft surgeon is being held up in another of the Insulate Britain Protests blocking the roads, stopping the ambulances getting through and saving lives ...... so so proud here of the NHS BUT not so of those who are determined to run-it all down in the name of Insulate Britain ........ it's a daft and dangerous programme they're on .... to my mind Sorry, this has sparked a streak in me that rarely manifests itself Malc
  16. well yes I have bought a brand spanking new car .... a 1969 Hillman Imp when I was 19 ... then a Bank Mgrs car when I was one of those delightful Bankers and the car was a real perk ... loooooong ago now .................. in all the time I was a banker I did 63 miles on bank business and the bank owned Vauxhall Carlton I bought for peanuts from the bank when I was made redundant and that lasted just over 200k miles .... a wonderful car, yes it really was, took me over Europe a little too Probably the most I ever paid for a car was buying my 1932 Triumph Southern Cross Sports Tourer when I was co-owner ( about 25 years ago ) of my car sales business, long long time ago too ............. C02 footprint of that was possibly negligible ......... it burns E5 octane fuel ..... will I have to scrap that too My present Ls400 cost me £1400 10.5 years and 110k miles ago ............... good for another 26 years methinks, will for sure outlast me without a single doubt The real purpose of the post : I'd just like to understand how the overall carbon footprint of a brand new car, including the manufacturing C02 costs, stacks up, say the Lexus Ls vs the very best Tesla and to try to understand what's so wrong with keeping old cars on the road and going ........... even tho' they may be consuming fossil fuels directly, rather than indirectly thru' EV usage and C02 cost of manufacturing electric for the EV from very often, I surmise, fossil fuels too ?? Is this really too complex a Q to be answered by anyone I wonder Malc
  17. well actually, the taxation is really 400% = 4 x the cost & profits etc ! .... the miserly 1/5th being for all else Malc
  18. Amazing, technical hitch today ( and several days methinks ) at Tesco Sheerness Kent ..... keep it quiet please ....... ..... E5 99 octane now at 142.9p ltr they can't seem to re-programme anything ........ just topped up at £92.10 64.45 ltrs Malc
  19. I think it really depends on the extent of the last service really ...........and the timescale .................. I maybe would be rather circumspect and only service certain items, like maybe NOT replace the air filter and save maybe £50 and perhaps other items that would readily last for double that 5k mileage ......... but does depend on what was done last time and if at your mileage plugs say might be scheduled for change ......... doubtful on this specifically I guess Basically, can you trust what was said to have been done at your last service, was it done as scheduled etc ............ I know just having had this 2 / 3 ? year old car for just a year you can only trust what you've been told about it's two ? prior services Maybe, just maybe, if you're keeping this car for many years you might want to go with a fresh approach and have the full ( trusted ) servicing done and then, next time, be rather circumspect about your future servicing needs bearing in mind miles covered and your peace of mind and wallet ! ..... and continuity of Warranty etc Malc
  20. at least now, when I filled / topped-up, at a cost of £92.85 the other day in Devon, I could just tap my card rather than the cafuffle of putting the card actually in the machine and keying the number ...... oh the ease of spending these days ............ I must admit the cashier was aghast that anyone could spend sooooo much on fuel at her kiosk lots more " big spenders " to come though eh ! and if I had filled from zero, empty, it would have been about £127 ..... gulp !! Malc
  21. or indeed to satiate the EV afficionados we should compare the Ls C02 build costs to that of the best Tesla Malc
  22. Keith ...... and the answer is ????? Malc
  23. come come now, don't blame the car if the French are somehow impounding your cars 😌 I'm sure all will be well and you'll soon have the luxury of two superb ( eventually ) Lexii to drive Very best wishes with finding your Ls400 in as tip top nick as it could possibly be in all the dastardly circumstances you find yourself, and it in Good luck Dates booked for this trip ? Malc
  24. the key fob will only work properly if the main car battery works properly too Malc
  25. I was in Devon at the weekend ( somewhere ) and on Friday the E5 was at 149.9 and I thought that wasn't too bad ........... mind you, a petrol tanker was just unloading so maybe the following day the price might have shot up a few pennies Come now guys, we are all running good quality cars and know we have to take the knocks from time to time and we should just be grateful that the Chancellor is able to refill his coffers, for our overall benefit anyway, from the @80% tax take from these fuel sales so of every £1 I spend on fuel I really really get 80 pence returned to me ............. yes Malc
