  1. no personal taxation due on profits realised from one's own personal residence sale ........ and for the car collectors amongst us there's no Capital Gains Tax on any ( one ) car sale ......... so fill your boots with asset aspiring Rolls Royce s but don't become a Trader, just a private seller, maybe one a year until you've made your £ millions that you won't know what to spend it on Malc caveat is I'm no accountant so don't believe a word I say about taxation .... rules ............ ok !
  2. Filled the Honda Legend today with E10 ............ £67.11 worth at 134.9p ltr .......... again at Tescos Sheerness Kent Malc
  3. you beat a mobility scooter at the lights again Steve Malc
  4. and so it came to pass that the UKs problems all stem from an overtaxing, squandering Govt and politicians from all persuasions, and some none, getting just about everything imaginable hopelessly wrong eh ! ............ nothing to do with the ne'er-do-wells and fraudsters and crooks in Society, politicians too amongst 'em I agree too ............ of course Well, I quite agree ................. long may the car purchasing public be ever so frugal and concerned when buying their £40k plus cars and worrying, quite justifiably, about that extra £335 a year that's just not affordable ........... my heart bleeds for them all Malc
  5. not sure I really said that at all ..... what I did mean to say, whatever, was simply that, overall, the Govt intent to raise monies for all sorts of things with a mindset that can and does change with the wind ............. the car owning public can quite easily afford to pay a tad more in tax to run their esteemed vehicles ...... an extra £335 a year to run a £40k plus car is simply affordable ............ if it's not, then one should be buying, capital sum wise, a less expensive car methinks I'm all for raising taxes on all sorts ... lest we forget that whatever is raised in taxes, quite simply, flows back to US in some way or 'tother ...... NHS, Social Services, Armed Forces, HS2, Road repairs and whatever else you can think the Govt covers ....... oh ! and eventually to cover the amazing £400bn to help pay for the covid pandemic I really don't mind everyone paying their fair share tbh Malc
  6. I think Singapore also has an amazingly HUGE car tax burden too .. can't remember the figures but they are eye-wateringly HUGE and effectively push OLD bangers off the roads......... maybe cars over 3 years old that is someone here might check this out in case I'm hopelessly out of touch now Malc
  7. jeez, not used that for years .... where I used to live times past there were real buses and bus stops and useful places to visit on those buses .......... might investigate again ............ thanks for reminding me ....... somewhere in those old bank cards with accounts I never use ............ forgotten now with interest rates so wonderfully low at methinks 0.01% but hey, that's ok, it's Tax Free ............ unless you've got £1mn + to earn bugger all interest on ... and these pension pots, well, not much use to you when you're pushing up daisies ........ and incredibly valuable houses the same .......... LIVE FOR THE DAY I say But then i would wouldn't I, having made all the ££££ I can and will ever need, my inheritors too If I remember reading about when my 1932 Triumph was new there was Road Tax then ..... but not quite sure about that tbh EV Road Tax and super electric charge Tax too I say ...... somehow .. why should EV users get away scot-free ( pardon the expression Scotland ) Malc
  8. hahahahahahaha ... but that's the way it's been forever with Govt taxation whatever the style the " take " is done .... it just so happens that whatever they do to get at us motorists it's never going to be enough for them and I'm quite awaiting the day when they cancel the free Road Tax for ancient vehicles too ... now, that really doesn't make any sense at all and never has ! Why should I get free Road Tax for my 1932 beast ? Malc
  9. can't understand why one can be so meany - minded when paying out £40k plus for a car and worry so significantly about an extra £335 a year / less than a £1 a day to run the thing Just wait until the Govt starts to impose a rational annual Road Tax on EVs to wot ! they say .... keeping the roads good and well ... after all a EV does actually cause as much road damage, wear and tear as an " ordinary " other fuel driven beast ........ or maybe EV drivers weren't really aware of that and again, whinge and whine about paying that too ...... a relatively miserly sum in the great scheme of things ................... and then ........ When the benefit of getting into CO2 savings for the planet will fall onto Hydrogen Power cars and zero annual Road Tax there at that time to encourage sales ....... just like the EV of today I don't mind keeping on paying my 80% fuel duty with every drop I put into my not-so-eco-friendly ( so they tell me ) 4ltr V8 ........ vroom vroom oh, and is it only 80% ?? . to my simple mind it's probably 400% ..... being of the £ per litre cost 20% incl all costs and profits, production costs, delivery costs etc . and then ........ 4 X that added on as Tax at the pump, at delivery Malc
  10. oh my if only I was planning a driving tour around the USA and Canada I'd be there there like a shot, wads of greenbacks in fist Malc
  11. there was I, parked in Waitrose Tenterden and this guy, his Nissan Qashqai parked adjacent couldn't understand what on earth this " weird " car was ...... my Ls400 Just explained a little of my specific car and the Mk1 and Mk2 prior ........ my ownership and experiences and his eyes were clearly in awe ........... I'm thinking he might look at LOC and your individual's fine cars for sale maybe ........ I'll take a 10% Finders Fee please we really do have rare beasts these days ........... I haven't seen another for such a long long time Malc
  12. some of us don't have that luxury sadly ......... original OEM Dunlop DZ8 was it ? all those decades back ........ when Dunlop actually made this specific tyre for the " new " Lexus flagship Malc
  13. be interesting to understand the likely " cost " .... many £'000's I wonder Malc
  14. wot on earth is this ?? Malc
  15. yes they can do in OUR careful, considering and thoughtful hands BUT in the hands of the manufacturers and very many Users, the general public and business users, the car might have an expected total life span of say 7 ( Kia ) or 10 years max ....... Lexus warranty periods say .......... and Lexus parts LIFE expectancy of 10 years / 100k miles ( or maybe even kms ) So 10 years yes, for me it's now 26 years and I fully expect an awful lot more I'm not at all certain anyone will put forward an authoritative or even usefully sensible answer to my initial Q ........ so maybe we should just leave it there Ah, I know. let's ask ALEXA Malc
  16. yes sorry, when I was born in about 1758 I remembered it then .... forgotten it all since and not really sure dear old Thomas had thought it all through quite so well in the full knowledge that the motor car would come along, with the Lexus Ls to confound the pundits Malc
  17. Aha, so if everyone in the world, who could, replaced their energy saving lightbulbs a million times the worlds carbon issues would vanish ....... in a puff of " lights out " Malc
  18. now now one and all ...... we all seem to have drifted a little from the purpose of the original POST Does anyone think any of us can beneficially add to the required actual , what should be a relatively simple answer ....... but clearly an impossible answer to discover I'm of the uninformed opinion that there is no body of any Authority ( or otherwise ) that can, or is simply prepared to, put the energies required to investigate any of this to a ( simple ? ) conclusion NO worldwide Govt Body nor Energy Authority nor Car Manufacturers Body would ever be able to nor prepared to do so .......... methinks there's far too many vested interests NOT to do so Unlikely I know, BUT if Sir David A was to read this post, or indeed to even ask the Q, maybe in general terms about total car newbuild and car scrappage carbon values ....... then, and only then, might some Govt body take up the mantle and search for the truth, or even some sort of sensible answer Malc
  19. Well everyone, just topped up again today ....... can't believe they haven't yet fixed their computer glitch ..... still all the fuel at yesteryears prices ( so it seems ) Malc E5 only did 17.10 ltrs today, popped in whilst just passing the door
  20. certainly the modern V8s seem to produce more eco-friendly mpg than the golden oldies ..... the old Ls400 I have anyway Just filled up with E5 and over a simple but usual pottering around 112.5 miles this past week or so I seem to have achieved 24.75 mpg ( not in the eco mode tho' ) I think she has achieved 30 mpg on a good run, loaded with passengers, luggage etc and on the Motorways at 70mph (' ish ) maybe a couple of hundred miles straight run ...in the distant past 40 mpg seems just BRILLIANT maybe I should do my bit for the planet and get myself a more eco-friendly V8 too Malc
  21. and the Ls400 owners reading this should remember the simple sliding but effective storage box under the passenger seat, for just this sort of thing ... even before mobiles were invented maybe starting some 32 years ago now Malc
  22. Rockauto and from my personal experience with my Ls400 with UCAs ......... from Amayama ...... work out about 50% of the cost from Lexus UK ....... supplied and all-up delivered, carriage, VAT, Customs Duty and Post Office Documentation fees too ..... take a few days to arrive BUT arrived stamped Toyota on the arms themselves so most certainly OEM and very original product ........... even stamped " left " and " right " too ( but couldn't see the difference tbh ) At that time about £250 each " all-up " as opposed to Lexus/Toyota UK £550 each AND one of these replaced a BluePrint UCA that had been changed just 40k miles previous ....... my originals on the car lasted between about 170k and 210k miles Good hunting with it all Malc
  23. nor indeed those with vested interests in manufacturing and selling brand new cars too .... now then, where's the carbon footprint figures for the Bezos , Tesla guy's, Amazon, Branson/Virgin ventures into the final frontier .... SPACE .............. I can forgive Shatner at age 90 for doing what he invented ..... virtual space travel I guess , now doing the " real thing " BUT the others, well, a jolly at the cost of destroying the planet ....... summat not quite right there without them all being totally honest on the planet's climate cost please vs a vs their own supposed ethos of " saving the planet " Sir David Attenborough, please step up to the plate and give us your revered views on this expectation ........... and careless attitude of the rich and ( in ) famous Good 'ol Sir David eh! wot a tremendous guy and now age 95 Malc
  24. and the Biden calvacade to visit the Pope, due to covid distancing imposed by the Pope they said, involved 50, yes FIFTY cavalcade cars Tea and coffee at the Vatican don't come cheap you know Malc
