Ls400 non-use issues
Malc replied to Malc's topic in LS 400 / Lexus LS 430 / Lexus LS 460 / Lexus 600h / Lexus 500h Club
certainly reducing the normal annual mileage of mine from 12/15k down to 4k or less these past 2 years has definitely brought it's share of the " inexplicable " OK the exceptional heat at times might have had some bearing on it all overall ....... BUT the time when, on the M2, the wipers just packed-up mid flow then a couple of hours later when the RAC guy had ( some seconds later ) arrived, they miraculously began to work .. and touch wood, have done ever since ...... no cause found or known Then when it, the Header Tank, inexplicably needed topping-up with 1.5 gallons of water 😭 ..... my indy could only think some of the myriad gaskets had dried out sufficiently to weep ( a lot ) over the months ......... he checked the resultant diluted coolant strength and that was still fine btw ..... everything else just back to " normal " I'm thinking these were issues associated with a lack of " normal " use over the months and as I mentioned all prior in another post sometime back There's sure some weird and unexpected issues arising from time-to-time with these oldies of ours Beautiful tho' they are Malc -
Hey guys, just got up their website on google .. care tho, it's " unsecure " so it says on madam google http://www.bba-reman.com/gb/index.aspx Looks quite impressive for sure .. can't quite make out the address to actually visit BUT I shall do so as Rochester is my normal stamping ground for coffees, light lunches etc ......... a Cathedral City no less ... about a 30 min country drive away or even a 30 min harassed drive thru local towns etc My speedo is sure a pain in the neck still, sometimes not moving off stationary even with a " tap " and then the 10 mph behind and then seemingly catching-up to ok mph at some time a little later . it's a " hoot " for sure Thank you Mole Malc

well there we are ........ wot a disaster ....... motto Aaron..... . use your beloved Ls400 as a main car for ever and a day and with proper servicing and maintenance these things will only ever happen every quarter century .. oh it has ! ... well ok then ...... just maintain her as it should be and in 2026 this just might unexpectedly happen again .. we've all had a couple of " appenings " over the years ....... have you seen the permanent thread here " Ls400, what catastrophic unknown failings " Take note please and just beware theses odd things can happen ..... at least our cars are around long enough to need this sort of Post unlike Beemers and Mercs and VWs and Audis where longevity like ours is often far from assured Best wishes Aaron and welcome to the Club, may your miles be long and comfy, reliable and safe and your steed in 25 years time be as valuable as it is today Malc -
Ls400 non-use issues
Malc replied to Malc's topic in LS 400 / Lexus LS 430 / Lexus LS 460 / Lexus 600h / Lexus 500h Club
My simple feelings too ..... deterioration slowly sleepily creeps in and starts to break-down electrics especially, gaskets dry out and seep, valves start to " stick " and maybe lots else too ................... your thoughts one and all ? Malc -

I would be amazingly concerned for the survivability of the electronics, all electric wiring and pixels surviving on the displays whilst in unused storage Don't these things just " perish " with age and time rather than simply mileage and use ? ....... and in storage, well, it just seems to me that deterioration might just set-in a little faster than being " used " every day or thereabouts Malc -
Disappointed with first service

I wonder if his Dealership reads this Forum !! Malc -
I've just been noticing quite recently there's a plethora of owners, old and new, who are thinking to try to keep their cars cossetted for a future time What some of us have noticed during Lockdown has been an assortment of weird and strange issues arising from little or no use of our fine cars and I'm thinking it might be useful, for those owners intent to keep their cars for " finer day " use, or indeed to just keep them as Objet's de desire ...... rather like a piece of fine porcelain or glass ............. for readers here to give their own views on what might be done to help preserve these specimens. Perhaps from their own experiences of little use or expectations of issues arising from little use And the warning signs and things maybe to look out for to help " preserve " them Your thoughts please .......... Discuss ......... Malc

Disappointed with first service
Malc replied to Bounce75's topic in Lexus IS 300h / IS 250 / IS 200t Club
probably about 10 years ago methinks ...... car dealers and mechanics at garages ..... I think the " trust " element largely vanished a while ago now sadly If you've got a trusted and honourable mechanic then hang on to him like gold dust Malc -
I'm quite shocked at such a young age and tiny mileage that the front air suspension needs changing ,,,,,,,, anyone else advised you about this ? This age and mileage falls well outside what we expect Lexus itself to usually find acceptable .... as the " life " of the parts .... 10 years / 100k miles Malc

Disappointed with first service
Malc replied to Bounce75's topic in Lexus IS 300h / IS 250 / IS 200t Club
don't take the stress .. it's fixed ... move on BUT next time maybe ask for the " usual " video of the service etc . after all, you're paying summat like £190 an hour incl vat, labour charge at the Lexus Main Stealer Malc -
believe it or not, and I found it hard too initially Not all cars have the same size tyres supplied from new front and rear ......... weird I know but there you are Malc
-
how on earth are you going to live long enough to do at least another 450k miles in her ? I know she looks amazing and your pride and joy BUT oh dear, you are really missing out on an awful lot of wonderful motoring by not taking her out and about, here and there and everywhere just as much as is humanly possible .............. I would be torn between keeping her in aspic too .. but only for 10 minutes ! Best wishes with it all Malc I had someone parked next to me the other day in Waitrose car park and they were in awe of mine too ..... and mine's a heap by comparison, but at 235k miles it's expected to have some blemishes eh !
-
blimey, mine too ... wouldn't you just have the Lexus convertible instead Malc
-
the convertible above must be so so rare Malc

I think Roy's given up on us guys ! Malc

hahahahaha .......... hearing yesterday on the news about the COP26 summit ......... several do-gooders, delegates failed to arrive in a timely fashion .... their EVs ran out of " fuel " en-route Malc
-
I mentioned this prior .......... they said they have a " technical hitch " and can't re-programme the pumps right now ...... been ages too .... oh dear ! guess they're not actually losing money at this price, just not making any right now I'm sure it will end very soon once the teccy guys get round to this remote island, Sheppey, a part of wonderful Kent Malc

Steve, you're the cause of my latest escapade yesterday .......... Boy Racer in a T reg dark blue, go-faster stripes Ford Fiesta ?? or summat like that ... at the lights and he's intent to beat the pants off me for sure ........ to the next roundabout and he's still in the outside lane where he really doesn't want to be ...... round that then to the next roundabout where we both need to be in his outside lane ... so I just speed up a little ( a lot ) and easily pop in front and then, when we're round the next roundabout ..... like Miss Daisy ( above ) allow him to push ahead with fumes clearly emerging from his ears He tried hard and in all fairness I do believe his little car was a sooped up version with all sorts of grunts and powerful groans going on ............ the Lexus really just wafting along there, with some nifty driving from me, ............ with no untoward signs of stress I'm sure ( me nor the Ls 400 ) Malc
