it's sure baffling me ........ why can't someone find ( or be able to find ) the prior posts on here from whichever section they were in, that specified the fact that the speedo was changed, reasons why and the true resultant mileage. I'm sure the Poster happily told us all these details etc at the time, I know he did, very open and straightforward about it all I'm sure ! .... ............. just seems really odd to me that the info is, or was on here somewhere, someone knows, but just won't reveal this simple truth of the matter Really odd methinks ................ and autoraider allowing this seemingly, possibly erroneous advert to run from a milkfloat selling business taking the pee (or milk) out of readers .............. I don't like conundrums to be outstanding when they should be so easy to solve Malc

I'm thinking the price just about matches it's lowest auction guide too ......... might be a useful project for someone with those skills to make a complex job simple ! Malc

simply that all you've been told by the potential repair garage really needs to be confirmed by the insurers ? .... or is the garage just going ahead with the repairs anyway and assuming the insurers are happy with it all ? If that's the case then fine . just pay your excess and keep the free car hire until yours is ready to collect ...... if it was mine i think I'd want to know directly from the insurers that all is as you're expecting Insurers are a funny bunch and not always turn-out quite as expected you know Malc
-
if I were you I would ask your insurer their authoritative position on this Malc
-
Vlad, are you telling us that the car is economically repairable and that the insurers will actually repair your car ok ? Malc
-
maybe it's the constant use of the calipers that keeps them in fine fettle Malc

any piccys ? registration details etc ? Malc

OK, not the same I know BUT at the recent several MOTs my indy ( looked after my cars for about 13 years now ) has effectively and very inexpensively welded-up the ends of the front downpipe as that caused the Emissions issues to appear at the MOT He assures me that all is very well with the remainder of the whole exhaust system, built like a tank he says ..... 235k miles and 26 years young ......... and will probably outlast much of the car itself ........... another 20+ years maybe HOWEVER the upshot is that he recommends to me a local'ish eurosportexhaust.co.uk business to just replace the front end, down to the cats etc ( which are still all very fine it seems ) .... so this is where I shall be going a little ( or a lot ) before the next MOT .......... due Dec 2022 I'm sure there are these specialists all over the kingdom that will offer a fine bespoke and not amazingly expensive service ( hopefully ) Malc

consider a taxi drop-off . might be less expensive than a car hire ! Malc

methinks this is a minefield and the Rules might / will have changed over these months. I believe there are / were changing rules in negotiation for Japan ........... why not directly ask a current Japanese exporter of car parts to the UK ? Amayama maybe .... I know when I imported from them pre-Brexit I paid their carriage, Customs Duty and VAT and a small Post Office handling charge for the documentation too .. overall imported cost was still sub 50% of the UK Lexus / Toyota supplied parts ... UCAs and about £250 per item
-
Oh I forgot to mention . my car was never off the road, always driveable and the errant door opened and closed fine all the time ... these old Ls400s are well built for sure ! Malc
-
up to you to negotiate their rules and their aspirations too and the minefield to get the best deal available ... that's if they do write her off .......... but any free car hire will cease at some point and you could be without a free car until yours is back on the road ..... a bit of nifty footwork might be required and might not be so simple as my experience of course My accident involved a very bad driver hurtling round a roundabout at god knows what speed in his ancient classic Porsche with his damage absolutely tiny BUT @£4500 it seemed .... My Fault tho' they assured me 😭 Good luck with your negotiations Malc
-
ok so my Ls400 is ancient but Fully Comprehensive insce Long story short ..... my fault accident .. wrote her off for cost of a new replacement rear door -- @£1500 all-up Cat N write-off . OK to put back on the road with a fresh MOT after repair I bought the write-off from the insurers and from the gross £££ insce payout ...... end of the day after paying my excess of £350 and buying the car back from them, the insurers pay me £850 Cost of repair, luckily pennies . no paint damage just a huge dent in the door . my indy pushes it out with his twinkle toes and hey presto . back to nearly new ( well 25 years young anyway ) I keep the car and get £850 cheque . have to have a new MOT tho at £55 BUT still Cat N write-off I'm happy with the " repair " ... the insurers would have insisted on a brand new door, which was never going to be available methinks ........ to do the repair under the insurance cover ..... it was always going to be a write-off for such a huge dent in the door The same insurers very happy to continue with the insurance for the car with same premium at renewal last March and Fully Comprehensive too That's how it all worked for me at the time Hope this might help in your negotiations somehow Best wishes Malc
-
At 8 years young and that damage I think thy will write-her off tbh ..... maybe depends on your mileage too ! They write lots of stuff off almost willy nilly I feel BUT that might give you the opportunity to buy-back the car and have it fixed privately at maybe 50% or so of the insurers likely cost ... that's if you wanted to do that ..... and know someone who could do the repair to proper standards ... and trust The insurers will for sure just pop it into an auction to recover what they can and someone will buy it for peanuts and repair it to on-sell ...... assuming it's NOT an insurance structural write-off coz that would be illegal to put back on the road ( probably ) Good everyone is safe and sound and I wish you well with your negotiations with the insurers adjusters etc ... that can be so so frustrating, costly in time and mental fatigue too ..... been there, got the T shirt 😈 You might be lucky and it all runs smoothly, car gets repaired, while you have a free hire car and no loss of your No Claims Bonus or whatever it's called these days Best wishes whatever Malc

and harking back a little . a couple of years ago, just pre-covid, I was holidaying in Sri Lanka and seeing, selling brand new from the high street shops, treddle non-electric sewing machines by Singer, were certainly available too Malc

not seen a top loader washing machine since my first marriage days in 1971 with the Hoover Twin Tub . it worked fine till the front loader came along ............

I might have been aged 50 ........... one of the secondhand cars on my garage forecourt that we couldn't sell ........ petrol crisis times and all that ...... so I started to use it as my main car and never stopped ..... I'm 72 next January ( maybe a relatively old and happy guy I hope ) ....... this one, my third Ls400, my Mk3 Ls400, might last me out tho' Malc

Stuart hi .. she's now covered 235k miles and before this covid stuff etc when I seem to have only managed 4k, I was previously regularly doing 10/12/15k miles a year for the 10.5 years I've owned her. Covered lots of Europe on holidays in that time too . I bought her from a member on here with about 123k miles on the clock She had full Lexus service history prior and well documented Since then my indy has looked after her ..... never been garaged in my ownership, rarely washed ( maybe that's the key ) and lived all it's life by or on the coast ............ ,always had an annual service with the MOT and always done, where possible, preventative maintenance ......... BUT she's had one or two age / mileage related issues from time to time ... UCAs, an alternator about 30k miles ago and other bits and bobs that weren't too demanding tbh With the callipers, I think it's actually having them checked every year by someone who does actually check them, knows what they're doing ( whatever that might be ) ... and service them properly . I think it's a simple enough job ..... just needs doing ! Not sure it's a scheduled part of any Lexus Service Schedule though and that's why they are rarely looked over at a " normal " garage doing your servicing maybe Malc

Blimey ... more modern cars than mine seem sooooo complex in braking as well as most other avenues of operation Got my car back from it's annual service and MOT and the first thing that impressed me was the seemingly ( maybe psychologically ) more efficient braking ............ just seemed a little more " spot on " I know he checked all discs and pads etc and proclaimed all to be well and good for another year AND he does always check out, on the annual service, the callipers for efficiency of operation ... and to date I'm not aware of any replacement of callipers or components at all, ever ....... in 26 years Malc maybe this is some sort of record achieved by diligent servicing ? there's nowt mentioned on any of the Lexus Main Dealer servicing bills before I had the car 10.5 years ago
-
just checked it's current advert on autot-raider and it's still hugely misleading ......... well, unless you're wanting to purchase an electric milkfloat from these guys It would be funny if it wasn't so serious ands messes up faith in ever being able to buy a genuine used example from what's on offer around Perhaps MODS can just let us see and interrogate the prior posts but of course removing all references to ownership and contact details maybe .................. is that so difficult do you think ! Malc

OllieLes .... never ever ever think Dark Side ........ life always has good stuff and the Bright Side is always best ......... with occasional sadder moments interspersed Subaru's are generally wonderful cars .. love seeing the occasional Imprezas around, reminded me of when I had a car sales business and we had a sooped up Subaru Impreza summat or other ... the fastest machine on the planet . well, in those days anyway Malc
