  1. Quite simply, if I had to leave my present Ls400 ........... write-off ( again .... hahaha ... just a Cat N now ) or whatever well, I'd just buy myself another one . preferably another Mk3 methinks ... glass headlamps etc I might be tempted by a hydrogen Lexus tho' come the time BUT at age 72 next month I think my aspirations could be a tad limited Malc
  2. including if you want all that darn fandangled electronic wizadry that's proven to need attention at some time later in life ......... I'm a relatively simple soul at heart ! ....... enjoy my tape deck and CDs especially Malc
  3. life's events can overtake you ....... do what you can when you can and if you can ! Malc
  4. Paul, for heavens sake buy yourself a sensible petrol V8 of Lexus mode Malc
  5. Just picked up this too for a light interesting short read Malc https://classicsworld.co.uk/guides/lexus-ls400-buyers-guide/?utm_campaign=787092_Classics World newsletter 8%2F12%2F21&utm_medium=email&utm_source=Kelsey Media Ltd&dm_i=5D8F,GVBO,3J1ETD,1YB61,1
  6. concur and at nigh on 200k miles one would have expected just about ALL the suspension etc components to have been renewed ... and with OEM hopefully ........ BUT with BluePrint or worse ......... with a very limited lifespan ..... I know that for sure Malc
  7. I'd have thought that might be a big big concern tbh ........ deliveries and parts availability of everything right now is supposedly challenging .. especially if they're saying " on back order " ............... Evergreen stuck in the Suez and that sort of scenario brings nightmare thoughts to me ............ I'd be checking with them precisely what the parts problems really are ..... and also the insurers being ok continuing with the free hire car ! Being prepared is always good ! Best wishes with it all Malc
  8. I'm sure it would be for a car that's not had the cambelt and waterpump, peripherals etc serviced in a timely way ..... but otherwise I'm sure not a concern ... from my readings of the V8 set-ups on these cars Buy the right one with reliable, proper service history and all should be fine Malc
  9. Stuart very very best wishes with all this mullarkey ... you've sure been thru' t'mill with this car and these events so I'm quite certain that you will readily see off all the nasty gremlins and issues facing her and get her back into fine fettle quite promptly Best wishes Malc
  10. even tho' BP is intending to produce this fuel for cars in the north of England somewhere and no doubt put appropriate " pumps " at each of it's 1200 ( or is it 1500 ? ) fuel stations in the UK ?? I read about this quite some months ago and Japan is favouring hydrogen power for the future ! There are other threads on this Forum too about hydrogen fuel cars .. it has recently been discussed in some depth Malc
  11. Andrew, oh my ....... she looks almost puurrrrfect and certainly shouldn't be " scrapped " at least without someone checking out it's feasibilty to get back up and running ........... as the old chap would certainly have wished I'm hopeful someone will pop along quite soon to investigate it all and bring some heartening news and views Best wishes with it all Malc do keep us posted on developments
  12. Keith, the turn down knob I'm told ( my indy did it all ) is in front of the front centre armrest and under the wood grain area surrounding the gear nob ... where precisely I don't know BUT it's certainly there in my Mk3 .......... very careful fingers and prising will no doubt be required to ensure no damage to the wood grain covering No one else here done this then ???? Malc
  13. momentarily ..... insurers cause us to rant and rave a lot these days ... often they demand unreasonably, some dopey and costly excuses to charge us for silly things ....... and I'm quite certain that will never change Malc
  14. 5 years future horizon is a very long time in the life of a car ............ even the owner too ....... even simple accidents that can write a car off by insurers .... My view is that if it is repairable at some sensible cost and can be, howsoever it's achieved, and you really have confidence in this car then I would bite the bullet and keep it on the road ............ the next one you buy could be someone else's imminent problem they too are trying to get rid of after all, you're only covering 3k miles a year now ! Malc
  15. unless the kerbing was a bit " catastrophic " and you've actually done some serious underside stuff damage Malc
  16. come come . that one's All Gold ...... might melt down for gold scrap value Malc
  17. let's remember that for MOT purposes and also for normal day to day, nightime driving, headlamps that are quite severely opaqued thru' sunlight etc will still pass the MOT and be quite serviceable ......... they just won't look like new. Malc
  18. when I used the Esso E5 it was Red* Octane 99 specified at the pump Malc
  19. Could you not turn the alarm sound down to zero via the knob ? or don't you have that option maybe Malc
  20. Not from me , mine have been and are still fine at 236k miles Why do you want them ? Malc
  21. as I said before ....... wait till the sh..t hits the fan and it might be a tad too late .............. sadly I wouldn't trust insurers as far as I could throw them ! Malc
  22. Toyota ( Lexus ) have said there will be no conventionally powered new cars supplied by 2035 ... so Hydrogen will feature significantly across the range I'm sure as the years progress ....... I feel EV will be a " has been " unless someone finds a way NOT to use the rare minerals it takes to build one Malc
  23. over the years and all the posts I have read, there's never a permanent solution to redeeming the clear-lens factor to old and sun/air damaged plastic lenses My Mk3 Ls400 was the last with glass lenses /. headlamps and thankfully they are as good as new to this day .... 26 years young My 2006 Honda Legend is about to have some 400 grit sanding attention any day soon .... I'm expecting them to last maybe a year and then revert to " dull, and dim " ............. methinks the only real solution is stupidly expensive brand new headlamp lenses .......... sadly ......... probably cost more than the car is worth tbh ..... so sanding it is . Malc
  24. why would they be bothered . it's only when the crap hits the fan and someone starts investigating ways to get out of taking responsibility and liability ... like when you, heaven forbid, have an accident .. that they will want to wriggle and find a way to NOT help you Malc
  25. Vlad hi ... any good points to let us know about ? Malc
