  1. I got used to it these past 11 years and 117k miles ........... the stress level diminsihes with experience I find BUT sometimes I forget andf get caught out ..... think I'm driving the other car maybe ........ I tried lots of the above suggestions too Even wrote to Lexus about the recall . fell on deaf ears ( of course ) BUT the only other option was to just let her depart and I'm NEVER going to do that ...... she's too precious and whilst worth zero in cash terms is actually a $million to me Keep the car and develop the 6th. instinct to keep going Best wishes Malc
  2. Tom hi welcome to the Forum . especially with a wonderful Mk3 Has this just started happening ? Can you tell us more about your wonderful car ? see the authoritative posts above ...... every little helps I know it can initially be a bit scary in some situations when rev cut-out happens ..... so tips to avoid ........ NOW ...... after a bit of a long run and this happens to me, it only happens when I'm slowing down and the revs drop away ......... totally ............ I can just pop the auto gearstick into N and restart the car whilst it's very slowly moving / running along , say on a roundabout approach and you want to really keep going ...... If I'm at red lights and it happens then just turn the ignition off and again in N or P restart her and you will get full revs as tho' nowt has happened OR pre-empt the situation arising and when you " know or feel " it's cut out is imminent then just keep your foot gently on the accelerator pedal to keep enough revs until you're in a better driving onwards position If you're at red lights and you can feel it happening with the revs reducing then just pop her into N and you will see the revs gently edge back up to an ok level Something minor to live with for the utter pleasue of having a Mk3 methinks But a bit scary the first couple of times tho' I've never bothered to sort it out BUT I do understand that when this happened to the Mk3 in the USA then Lexus did actually have a recall and I guess permanently solved the problem somehow You're a lucky guy having a Mk3 Best wishes Malc
  3. Good luck everybody ........... especially the ladies amongst us who must be bored rigid with all this prostate stuff reaching into relams of incredulity and non-understanding .......on my part anyway ( I'm pleased to say ) Jeez, fancy being a medical student having to come to grips with all this kafuffle ........ good luck to 'em, and us eh ! oh, and especially the ladies amongst us here Malc
  4. I'm thinking a commercial car wash business might be Exempt should you be prepared to pay during this temporary ( hopes ) hiccup Malc
  5. I'm not at all sure that there's any appropriate OBD port etc with our ancient steeds ........... someone with greater knowledge might know of this tho' ......... there's a ( physical ) grinding noise with juddering .? it's physical ... get someone else / somewhere else, to get the car up on the ramps and really really check each wheel ....... hopefully you will discover that stuck stone somewhere Good luck Malc
  6. Sure, simple really . if you can live without the TPMS lights on the dash then....... don't bother with it all anymore BUT check your tyres the old fashioned way from time to time AND at the MOT time have a sensible word with the guys organising that with the Tester ..... presumably your tried and happy regular car mechanic ...... for him to have a quiet word ..... it should be able to pass ok at that precise moment in time the vison of the dash Test is done Just a thought Malc
  7. and back again . believe me, I know this .. typical flight costs have just about tripled since the end of covid in the UK .......... and the airports globally are just about the worst places on earth to spend 3 hours waiting for that plane seat Notwithstanding, my business has never been so busy selling air tickets . people must be MAD . .......but the coffers here in sunny old Kent seem to be overflowing with the potential to buy a brand new big Lexus or two right now ........ but I won't coz I still dream that I have the best Lexus ever .... my Mk3 Ls400 Malc
  8. it's getting a little more bearable . at the weekend . both cars to fill-up cost me only £211 ... so it's def getting cheaper / less expensive Malc
  9. hahahahaha .............. mine's been missing since I bought her in 2011 117k miles ago ..........and it was missing on a prior Ls400 I owned too ...... " out of sight out of mind " I guess Malc
  10. sorry, just seen u looked at Steve's ! M
  11. hi, think I saw some on sale here a day or so back .... maybe Steve2006 .... not sure if it's your model tho' . or even if it's him advertising Malc
  12. I don't know your answer BUT I do know that many guys on here have Ls430 steering rake etc issues and have overcome them for ease of just letting the position lie where it sits ......... understanding that a full fix is a tad expensive BUT using 2nd hand steering rake parts costs much less than the Lexus Main Dealer fiasco pricing I know nowt about an actuator but imagine that's a part of the common problem facing owners NOW for it to be an MOT failure. well, no one's ever mentioned that before .... you sure someone's not telling you fibs ? Malc
  13. I'm thinking the same tbh similar issue with my 2006 Honda Legend and been advised it could be the auto signal from the key and the car security system simply not recognising it's valid and thinking the car might be in the throes of being stolen ........... after a while everything gets back to normal and the car starts and moves out of its " locked up " P for Park I don't have a solution........ seems as if it might be a tad too expensive for me to worry about with my 16 y/o Legend especially as it gets well again after a shortish while btw the 12v battery isn't very old Malc
  14. maybe a little more conscious of petrol costs driving both my V8 4ltr Ls400 and the 3.5 ltr Honda Legend too ... sometimes we're both out at the same time driving and not being too careful etc to just use the one car and actually focussing on getting better value from shopping less often, just popping out ( in the car ) to get a loaf of bread etc ( have you tried that Aldi sliced honey drizzled 800gm standard loaf .... it's just brill ) so YES, we have slightly changed our driving habits and YES I do tend to drive at a gentler pace these days too ....... one day a few weeks back I had to fill both cars within a couple of days ..... spent £265 ... gulp Malc
  15. that's a brilliant UCA result . is that an all-up Amayama cost including carriage, vat and import duty AND that Post Office fee for telling you they're on their way I wonder ? Mine arrived in sealed plastic bags marked L and R on the bags even tho' they seemed identical .. and of course Toyota stamped on the units bars themselves Fitting time is relatively small I was told and when you see the new UCAs you'll wonder why on earth bits of rubber and metal bars can possibly cost so much Btw what mileage have the originals covered ? Malc
  16. gentlemen ..... we all have to pop our clogs at some time ..... at 72 I'm anticipating going on at least another 30 years ........... still got too much in life to achieve was hoping it would be a bus taking me " out " from behind not seeing it coming and all that, an instant " whack " and GONE ...... but not so sure I can cross the road these days without all the traffic slowing down to let me pass even with me waving me stick at 'em to speed up and run me down please Just take care everyone and if there's treatment to be had to prolong a good and happy life then that's great too ..... I'm buying into that scenario for sure Malc
  17. probably a 2 for 1 offer a the time Malc
  18. I believe the UK is about to start to think about utilising the oil reserves of the UK off the Falklands in the forseeable AND of course there's the enormity of the undersea oil reserves ( and gas maybe ) off Brazil which would possibly thrust Brazil into the super league of nations, taking them one above the UK in economic global ranking So then, what's the reasoning behind the Green stance on these irreplaceable fossil fuels not being used I wonder The huge holes created under the Atlantic Ocean can be filled with sea water then created to reduce universal global flooding maybe ? Or is it global warming we're needing to worry about ? OR BOTH perhaps ! I don't know, does anyone really know ? Malc
  19. Glyn .........almost every house I've owned until now has had a garage, sometimes a big big double garage too .... and I don't remember ever keeping a car in there, ever Once I had a double carport AND a huge 3 car garage and the carport was good, the airflow was brilliant and I kept a car under there for sure .. the cats loved sleeping up on the rafters too ..... enjoying the sea breezes out of the rain ... and the sunshade of course on those rare occasions ..... back in the day My cars too are now roadside and I don't mind one jot, nestling up against my neighbours Bentleys and the like ......... a safe road to park on is good and if neighbours won't behave . as in your instance then well, .......... ...............just make their life hell for a while and they'll shortly understand to be more neighbourly towards you ( maybe buy yourself an old banger and park it in the spot they actually use for themselves ..... they don't own that space presumably ? or indeed park your newly acquired old banger right outside your own garage doors possibly ) sorry, I've got too much thinking time going on here Malc
  20. Piers ..... post cancer check-ups, whatever the discomfort, are a necessity and NOT to be avoided at any cost eh ! My having a loooooong length of cable with a camera on the end shoved up my nose and down my throat must be similar ...... thankfully mine is now only 3 monthly and relished whatever the discomfort GO4IT you know it's good for you Malc
  21. are these famous people ? Malc
  22. nope . it's UP TO 5% ethanol .. and somewhere there's a chart / calculation that tells one the better mpg achieved with a lower ethanol content too ( so far as I remember someone saying here somewhere ) . just to make you feel better filling up with more expensive fuel no doubt ANYWAY EVERYONE Is there a rational theory why it's bad for the planet .......... and not Green, using irreplaceable ( in our lifetime ) fossil fuels ? Thanks Malc
  23. I reckon that £1350 was a steel ... steal .... still and still good value tbh ....... the door seemed a bit excessive ...... curtains would have been cheaper, .... if you'd got your missus to run up a pair maybe Keeping your beloved ( Sc430 ) warm and cosy in the winter Malc
  24. Colin ... I always found the RAC a good source of proper advice for European travel preparedness Good luck Malc
