OMG reading the above ... I'm quite certain now that I must have just imagined the noise .. the alternative is mind blowingly challenging and I cannot for the life of me think the job involved checking / changing will ever be done under my watch ... 237k miles ( just approaching ) so there's much to wonder about and things to just be unusual for most Members on here to ever have come across .... I shall leave well alone and enjoy the rare noise if it ever reappears .... maybe just over next Christmas with the elves ! Thank you all for your thoughtful input . very odd, the first time ever the other day I thought I could hear my tappets, well, tapping very slightly ..... never before nor since thankfully Remember the sound from many years past cars .......... in olden times ...... or maybe a stone in tyre tread BUT it certainly sounded like tappets Your thought s guys ? and if the Lexus quality prevails as with the longevity of the Ls400 ......... well, then the discerning buyer will be picking up amazing current Lexus models in 20 or even 25 years time or more ............ BUT from what I'm reading I think it's quite unlikely that any current models will be around in that timeframe as the current cars are all toooooo technical and there's so much electronic wizadry to simply fail ! ......... I hope I'm wrong but reading these forums doesn't instil me with confidence on the longevity of the Lexus current models ........... except maybe those silly one's costing £500k or more Happy New Year to One and All whatever Malc

just wondering if your RAC or AA cover etc covers lost keys ... or is that only when you're in an emergency situation with them maybe Malc

the issue would be, could you, or would you, really want to suffer the extreme inconvenience, even the once, of a BMW ( or other marque ) breakdown requiring roadside assistance, towing to a local garage etc and being without your car for even an unnecessary day the money doesn't really come into it at that stage, it's the utter inconvenience of it all ......... dark wet windy winter's night and all that stuck up on the Yorkshire moors whatever Malc

including perhaps some " at home " stuff with electronics adjustments from one's computer, laptop, desktop ........ maybe even your mobile phone too with input from " the Centre ", the manufacturer or whatever BUT I'm quite sure that it's going to be a long long while until the average purchaser of new or old cars will not want to inspect it " in the flesh " before committing to a big spend .... then the after-care when actual car delivery shows up imperfections and issues that weren't obvious on line Malc

I wouldn't advocate this necessity BUT I personally rarely suffer from other car doors etc dinging mine as I often, mostly park in usefully wide parking spaces allocated to me ... well, I have a Blue Badge .... one of the few benefits ...... but I would happily change that for not having one of course and taking my chances with other irreverent car parkers ...... oh, and it's those sodding supermarket trolleys too that do much of the " dinging " methinks ... and it's the people driving them that's the issue, their cars too Really, the answer is de-stress and don't worry about those dings, maybe only use an older car ( as mentioned above ) that one's not " possessive " about, to go shopping etc and to take the brunt of the dings and knocks etc Malc

and the House Purchase tax coming stomping straight back down to £125k any day soon I understand ..... now is a house purchase in the " Luxury " bracket I wonder . and at what level ? £1mn in South London might buy one a 2 up 2 down mid Victorian terrace house whereas in much of the country a 2up 2 downer might be a fraction of that price and £1mn buy you a mansion ........ oh and with all the super costs associated there too . like big heating bills etc Maybe I'm trying to audaciously and irreverently compare a yummy V8 running costs to an EV ........ heavily subsidised thus far BUT hey, that's going to get clobbered too any time soon methinks I'll just carry on with my super doopa V8 limo of minimal value in the knowledge that as a " new luxury " barge that would be @£100k or so these days ....... oh, and could I afford a brand new one, well, maybe ...... BUT why on earth would anyone want to buy a £40k + car with inherently on-going super tax to pay for many years and be in the sad position of having to moan and moan about it all for those years to come eh ! Everyone and Anyone just get real about one's expectations and only buy what one can readily afford ....... it's only a car and there's far more important stuff in life to worry about than a chunk of metal .......... albeit an amazing and wonderful delectable .............. Well well well, this has sure stirred a hornets nest methinks .......... I'm simply trying to say that those that can afford a " luxury car " know quite well and upfront all that they are going to have to pay to buy and keep their " luxury " steed ... and indeed many people may have more than just the one ........ and quite honestly, when one is in the fortunate financial position of paying for a luxury car it's simply incongruous to whinge and whine about the relatively small add-on costs of that car ....... . especially knowing upfront what those costs are Bit like buying a V8 and miserly trying to save and whinge about pennies on fuel costs Hope you're all having a super Christmastide and looking forward to a good and peaceful, happy New Year and 2022 .... where I'm sure Rishi will only be taking enough from us all to enable us all and those less fortunate to benefit in some manner or other from the UK Govts tax take Just reading today ........ One might like to think about Donald Trump's Scottish Golf havens benefitting to some considerable extent from UK Govt covid related largesse, furlough schemes whatever .... now, how could that have been prevented I wonder ..... a charge on all UK tax payers ! Really don't understand the worry anybody has over a relatively small extra effective monthly cost to their initial extravagant ££££ purchase ...... seems to me a bit like people being shocked, horrified at the mpg they're getting when buying a V8 and scrimping to save fuel pennies Doesn't add up to my mind ... but then my thought processes rarely can figure out how people think these days Malc

Christmas is christianity with a slant these days to impress all others who aren't christians ........... as in it's HOLIDAY time for everyone, if they can and should they want it to be ..... with a special meaning with christianity that just might rub off on non-christians ....... and influence them well It's called marketing too and often quite effective and spreads the word of christianity far and wide .... doubtless the Archbishop of Canterbury's Team of people has a really efficient Marketing Dept getting the message across to one and all ................ also the ( I think I'm right here ) spending of some £25mn over quite some years getting the old HQ back into fine fettle, you know, the Cathedral at Canterbury ... not the Archbishop's Palace at Lambeth ...... no canapes this year eh ! ( but where else in the world would you get full employment and an improving skills base for those amazing stone-masons amongst us all ) I'm Christian too but have many friends far and wide, worldwide, who just take the great holiday time and enjoy what christianlty has given them Good luck to everyone at this covid and troublesome time ... holidays too .... brings out the Best in People I hope ENJOY the break and if you can, and feel the need, pop into your local church or Cathedral and learn a little more about what's happening to local life with the church helping out .... it's usually a great and good story and benefits local society in much good measure ENJOY everyone and Best wishes Malc

coz I thought the matter could have been clarified had someone remembered your initial posts about it all and come forward with that info .. it's that simple really and the longer it dragged on the more suspect it all became tbh ..... with no one able to bring clarity ...... would you be able to, or even want to, explain the 5 previous owners ( was it ) and stuff maybe ? with such a long time in between and things rang bells ( and whistles ) and the low mileage seemed a bit incredible for the car's age and number of prior owners and a lack of MOT stuff ...... hope any new buyer appraises themselves of all they need to know eh !
