  1. reading long back somewhere here that on the Ls400 the optimum change time is now considered to be 100k miles / 10 years BUT also the timing belt life to " snap " time is 150k miles Wouldn't ever want to get to that point tho' Malc
  2. Good Good looks an amazing price ... for all the wrong reasons .. at 15 years old too ! Blimey Malc
  3. I'm with Saga these days and have from time to time looked at alternatives BUT it's clearly a minefield to know how to compare the varying " benefits and add-ons and downsides " of going with any specific insurer They all seem to have nuances that it's difficult to £££ quantify .... the various quoted base price just doesn't ever seem to offer a full story ............ Then there's the Claims Experience where some companies treat you like a dumbo and others with some sort of respect ..... on balance, for me these past few years ....... having experienced Claims handlers, Saga seems " comforting " enough ......... if ever it can be parting with dosh As we come out of covid and everyone is out and about doing more miles than the past two years we'll doubtless see some horror stories emerging with premiums Just renewing in these next few days ......... probably with Saga Malc
  4. How many cars are on UK roads? New record surpassed: over 40m ► Official SMMT data released in 2020 just seen this .. can't believe for one minute that owners of cars being serviced at Main Dealers amount to more than a fraction of these today . a large fraction no doubt BUT there's surely got to be a huge number of small competent trustworthy garages around in most areas of the UK .... surely .... just got to find 'em Malc
  5. Oh my that's sad for you where on earth are you then ? Malc
  6. then why on earth trust them to do the work ? Uberrimae Fidei should apply in this instance too Know Your Client and build an excellent rapport and relationship ... where's that all gone these days ? I know it doesn't come from Social Media and the internet . it actually comes from having a proper chat with the guy and understanding all about him for a start Oh dear . showing my age I guess Malc
  7. there's an awful lot of onshore wind ......... Sturgeonesque propelled ........ lots of hot air to be captured especially at Holyrood during debates methinks 😉 Malc
  8. why not just leave your indy to get the parts . oil and filter presumably . he'll use proper stuff for sure ...... surely ! Malc
  9. can't imagine what Adrian Flux would quote for a fleet of tanks trundling around the streets Malc
  10. hahahahaha ............ we the taxpayer cover the costs then eh ! well of course, whichever way they pay the effective premium Malc
  11. you're placing her akin to Kim whatever his name is ? Malc
  12. it's brilliant that everyone has their own attitude to risk ...... keeps insurance premiums competitive for those buying it methinks and if memory serves me right Gang, I don't believe you have to legally have car insurance provided you can offer the right level of assets to self-insure ..... and I guess holding those free assets in Trust with someone / business / solicitor whatever probably controlled by whatever ..... the ££££ figure is probably quite huge tho' Maybe you'll explore this and let us know you've stopped paying conventional car insurance sometime soon ? Bit like ATOL and Trust Monies held when you're going on holiday with a reputable company . ATOL is Govt controlled of course Malc
  13. is What Car opinion worth the paper it's written on then one wonders ! ............. or the equivalent of screen space I guess Malc
  14. s'pose it depends how long you are going to keep the car and your annual mileage ... and how wealthy you might be too of course ....... and if the pulleys, waterpump were also dealt with at the time Malc
  15. Scotland has 19.5 million acres ....... suggest Sturgeon agrees to a little of her peaceful blessed land be put over to Green Objectives and the power generated be underground cabled to the south where it will be used ... levelling-up could be reality ............ but maybe just a metre or so in the air above ground level tho' Malc
  16. and if this works for you Lexus 10 Year Plus Extended Warranty and you're happy with the extent of cover, then I don't doubt for one moment that Lexus wouldn't put it's name to anything other than robust fair and honest people when claims arise Malc
  17. Even I buy house and home insurance ........... my some 400 year old timber'ish cottage that's still standing ...... guess over the centuries the insurers have benefitted from the premiums paid by various owners ...... but hey, one goddam day this will maybe come home to roost and the insurance will be a boon .......... my own risk/cost judgement comes into play ........... I rarely roll the dice eh ! Just insure with a good reputable insurer who is honest, steadfast and reliable and will stand behind their promise to payout .......... We all have names of those we wouldn't ever touch again with a bargepole and those names we would welcome dealing with and who will stand behind you when things go belly-up ! Malc
  18. I s'pose if there's someone out there willing to pay the money then that's it's true value ............... at that moment in time Next week, well who knows, maybe more, maybe less ...... say £25k for the Ls600 at HedgeEnd eh ! Malc
  19. Tom hi .... I'm thinking that if you're quite able to do the spark plug change yourself then it's maybe a little tight fisted not to pay out a relatively small amount to buy a set of good quality plugs ............. plug changes can be effective preventative maintenance too and help you not to have issues later on in the life of your car ...... which you're intending to keep forever you say Malc
  20. happened to me today ... sodding cyclist just zipped up the inside of me from behind, about metre width into which he squeezed ......... left me braking to avoid banging his sodding back wheel and sending him to hospital no doubt .... why do they do it ah !!! ban 'em from other than cycle lanes and if there ain't any then just ban them from the roads in general....... or AT LEAST make them have some sort of Cycling Proficiency so that they are actually proficient Malc
  21. there really is some of that greenery not quite in order you know, there's at least a dozen " sprigs " out of alignment ! Malc
  22. please do keep us posted Good luck with this Malc

  24. doubt there'll be one on Lindisfarne but depending how far north you are in Northumberland .......... there may be one in Berwick or Edinburgh . could be quite close Malc
