Just got a 95 ls400 and I need to fix the parking break
Malc replied to Allen95ls400's topic in Brakes & Suspension
Hey, welcome to the club ..... we're a friendly helpful bunch here with quite some experience with these cars .......... ( hopefully ) To my knowledge my 95 Ls400 has never had a parking brake issue ( in 238k miles ) ........... I'm understanding they are very thin " shoes" from new and probably look as tho' they're ready to be replaced .... the cables might be available from Lexus Main dealer ....... but I doubt it so try Lexuspartsdirect a well known, on here, purveyor of essentials for our cars Others here might have better knowledge I'm sure Can you tell us more aboiut your new acquisition please ? and where are u based ? Good luck whatever Malc -
and giving us the opportunity to cull a few cyclists too .......... hehehehehehehe and BP for one is trying realy hard to take care of humanity by investing significantly in Green Stuff AND at the same time providing our Pension Pots ( mine I'm sure too ) with some really useful profits to enable us to fill our boots with fuel..... . in my case lots of delicious petrol to keep my delightful comfy 4 ltr V8 limo going and going and going There's nowt wrong with good profits provided they are earnt in a responsible manner and benefit society in some way ..... taxation and / or investing in Green stuff wnatever Malc

my local BP petrol station and pumps are a part of the MFG group ........ you know, the ASDA guys ......... so I'm thinking that it really is all the same stuff coming from the same huge ruddy tanks somewhere next to a shipping oil terminal ...... how MFG can differentiate with octanes of 95 97 and 99 heaven alone knows ... wonder if they do which is more important Malc -
oh but this wonderful experience could extend to other of life's experiences ....... and expectations simply " old fashioned " customer caring attitudes that quite simply have evaporated over the years ......... putting it down to societal non-caring and maybe poor understanding of life's " mores " ............ Well done to Lexus Preston . wonder where they taught the staff those skills eh ! ...... maybe some special Lexus School of Understanding ! or more likely some " old boy ( or lady ) " with exceptional marketing skills methinks Julian and lady, you will now be long time Ambassadors for the team at Lexus Preston .. may the coffee and bikkies flow well at every visit Malc

on a lighter mode .......... if a brake lamp has blown that might also show as a red warning on the dash too ...... just an irrelevance maybe to the main event ! Hope it all goes well for you Malc

Gentlemen..... at long last my speedo and dash lights are functioning as they should . speedo is looking correct judging by the speed of others doing 70mph over our local bridge at Sheppey . they all keep to the limit coz there's speed cameras that " grab ya " ....... I fell victim some years back ...... AND all that fixing the speedo with just a quick occasional prayer ....... nothing more thankfully Malc

always free at the point of need with your local NHS methinks ...... why go private ?........ No Win No Fee solicitors should be able to give you sound advice hopefully and then your long long protracted " claim " will ensue which in itself might just drag you down mentally whatever Malc -

I think this issue is discussed in other parts of the Forum ..... simply ( if it ever could be ) the E10 has less fuel energy than the E5 and therefore one gets less mpg .. now, whether the E10 or E5 is the most compatible for your engine is quite another telling matter Malc -
hey, good it's all looking great so far ...... that wind noise just thinking I read somewhere a while ago, here somewhere, the Forum anyway .. about a simple add-on to the mirror area somehow that stopped that wind noise Don't think i imagined it ....... might take some searching thru' the Forum's posts tho' Good hunting Malc

this seems a bit of gloom and doom .......... doesn't sound as if she's actually falling apart . just that there's a few issues that you want to fix to get her much much better .... did the last MOT show up any potential issues ? Otherwise I'd be inclined to just get her looking tidy, safe and all essentials working and continue to run her as well you might Don't stop using and losing the comfort of such a glorious car and getting a cheap run around ....... coz you know that some sad day this one too could suffer the same ignominous fate as your last and . " bang " she's gone Let us know more please Malc

methinks you're sadly totally barking up the wrong tree ...... the add-on time for changing either is comparatively tiny when doing the " one " alone as I say, it's the getting-to and getting-back thats the time consuming effort However, I'm sure you're thinking is best so I'm happy to leave this issue in your tender care and wisdom going forward Malc -

if you were changing just the waterpump the job time would be only a relatively tiny bit less than changing the cambelt too however ... that's why one would change both, check pulleys whatever ... it's the getting to it all and getting-back that's the challenge with the Lsa400, Ls430 and Ls460 probably too Malc -

only if they're experienced with that particular model+++ on my old Saab it was an hour or so .... easy peasy The Ls400 will be up to an all day job however Malc -

bright and sunny and beautiful here at Queenborough Town Quay here in Kent ...... but damnably cold and yes ........ the cars are still covered in that dreadful brownish mess .. thought driving yesterday might have blown it off BUT it of course hasn't ........... now, where's that rare trip to the car wash where I'm sure the Qs are astonomique and the staff working their butts off 😉 Malc -
maybe advertise it on here with clearly showing the number plate and plenty of piccys The price / value you might be able to gauge from autotrader or somesuch Good luck Malc

there's nothing " normal " about garage charges, or much else these days I would say that £65 + vat ain't that bad right now ..... Lexus Main dealer's charge double + that as do other marque Main Dealers .... my indy had to " give up " his garage premises over covid and lockdowns due to virtually ALL his business just " staying at home " and servicing, repairs etc just evaporating He still uses one of his old regular MOT garages for MOTs and happily is able to rent workshop space from them when he's servicing my cars and the very few other clients he has decided to hang on to ..... and we're very happy for that too There's a big catch-up happening right now and finding a good garage, with competent trustworthy mechanics is going to be harder than ever, let alone finding one that's happy to only charge £65+ vat .......... notwithstanding the above comment, of course there are plenty around happy to charge very little per hour BUT if you find the right mechanic that you want to trust, well, I would say stick with him and be happy to pay his going rate Malc
