from my past experiences of Glass's Guide as a car dealer many years past I doubt you would ever get a specific " true " up to the minute valuation of your car Times might have changed tho' Total Loss depends on so many negotiating points on your specific car ..... I would suggest you get a rough idea of market price from Autotrader etc and work from that point ... you upwards and they downwards I'm sure refurbished wheels definitley do NOT get incuded in my experience a couple of years ago on my car that is now a Cat N . an irrelevance . the car has to have wheels and satisfactory tyres . even if they are brand spanking new or just on the " edge " maybe you would wish to pay your own costs for an independent assessor ..... I'm sure there are those about somewhere too Total Loss .......... means ( maybe ?? ) it is irretrievably goinng to the scrapper in my thoughts and the insurers too no doubt and then there's the storage fees since the storm damage ... make sure you don't get liable for those if the negotiations take too long to settle Good Luck in your investigations and negotiations do keep us posted Malc

LS400 24000 miles £17,000. A new benchmark? This is apparently appearing at South Western Auctions on April 29th guide £ 16,995 so doubtless we will see just how much it's going to make in the " real world " of stupendous colectable Ls400s if at actually sells eh ! 😉 Classics World send me weekly or so emails and this has just appeared today Malc

WOW . that Turtle Wax product looks brilliant ... even if it needs repeating periodically too There's a few posts on this Forum about yellowing headlights and cleaning / restoring ...... never ever seen this product mentioned though I'll go get some for sure ( for my Honda Legend ...... my Ls400 has, thankfully glass headlights ) I had bought some appropriate wet ad dry paper to start the job ...... ages ago Malc

Rob, you really need to checkout the ( genuine ) receipts for all and any work done over the years on this car . or any car really ...... it might well have been fastidiously looked after and lots of expensive stuff sorted when it needed doing .... most long term Ls owners will have done this methinks ..... I know members here certainly have but maybe we're a tad exceptional ! Wear and tear on non consumables is expensive BUT has to have been done and preferably with OEM parts ........... my own experience with my Ls400 at 238k miles has had expensive " lumpy " but expected costs .. UCAs etc ..... and on this Ls430 would have probably appeared to need replacing from about 150k miles onwards .... these costs if required going forward will make this car stupidly expensive unless you have a bit of a bottomless ££££ pit ........ and also the Ls430 air suspension issues whenever they may appear ........... Do your homework of course Do you need a LPG car too . do you do huge mileage and need to defray those fuel costs ? otherwise I'd not worry too much about that concept tbh HOWEVER . these are simply my own personal observations and as I said before, I've never owned a Ls430 and possibly won't ..... I'd go for a Ls460 maybe There's other concurrent posts from I think maybe a guy in the USA with huge Ls430 issues ..... suspension stuff . might be good to read his posts and get some of his personal views ..... just a thought The bottom line is that the dealer may have all the good answers at his fingertips or maybe put you in touch with the previous owner ... to give you " comfort " I'm an ex car dealer too ............ and would just make sure the data you get is real and genuine Good luck whatever you decide Malc -
I hope the ferry crossings are sorted by August for you Malc

Lexus stamps look good BUT has lots of work been done to it at those services I wonder ....... would this car be on the Lexus service computer base showing works carried out I wonder ? I would worry buying it without full good knowledge that the suspension stuff has all been OEM renewed during it's long illustrious life ...... drivetrain goes on forever with peventative maintenance BUT all else could simply be " worn out " Take care Malc -
my dad was a chauffeur for a family and famous, courageous brewery based in south London ......... always a new modern car and often parked on the road at home ...... I even learnt to drive a little on one of 'em when I was 17 ...... Wolseley 6/110 ... 3 ltr straight 6 .... lovely car .... that's my favourite one he had . there were plenty of others at the time ..... all the directors had chauffeur driven " limos " back in them halcyon days ... Rovers, Vauxhall Crestas I remember ....... and the last the modern crab shaped Austin 3 ltr which had a very short lifespan with the brewery .. think the gearboxes frequently failed . summat like that anyway ..... French again ......... Cest le Vie and back to Fuel Panics please ............. no shortages in them there days methinks ... but when was the Suez crisis ? Malc
-
hahahahaha ......... does it matter if it doesn't " new " best occupation will be as a Blacksmith methinks of reading some of the crap and whatever emerging from this Forum Post Article Cest le Vie everyone ...... lets get back to Fuel Panic please .............. I was thinking in olden times the horse poo was good for the gardens ... my dad always said so running outside into the road to scoop up the rag and bone man's horse droppings for his prize roses ( back in the 1950's in south London to-boot ) ...... AND we always had a posh car too Malc

Huge mileage to my mind for this car unless you have a good proven service record showing UCAs and lots of other suspension stuff sorted .... it's simply ALL time and mileage expired to be serviceable if its original, at 225k miles ......... but be positive tho', ............ if it's been replaced with OEM parts by a good service garage or even Lexus then you might have a good 'un to haggle the price on .... if it's not yet been " done " you could be looking at several £'000s to sort out and the car might be 4 x over valued by this car dealer .......... do it have Full Lexus Service History, stamped book etc with this car do you know ? I'm thinking reading somewhere that Lexus at the Centre ( computer ) keeps a record of Lexus servicing etc Keep us in the picture please Good luck Malc -
Steve, maybe ask yourself how you've coped in earlier tests in your life .........and remember the best way you performed with the skills you have to achieve that Might help ...... some people are good at tests, others are not so ........ I'm quite good at Theory tests but totally 95% USELESS at Practical tests ...... those combined in exams was always a probable no-no for me in my earlier career life when it all mattered ! ( at the time ) Best wishes with it all Malc

Excellent Max, well done ..... a superb resume of all that's gone before in this Forum on the Ls430 Sunroof .......... just use it occasionally to stop the rot Steering Wheel Motors ............... can fail and can cost up to £1k to sort out ... the Washer fix is generally on the Mk1, 2 and 3 Ls400 alone Air Suspension ....... can cost up to £1k a corner to " fix " but the options are there for the alternative as advised Bonnet / Boot STRUTS ............ SGS supplies brilliant low cost replacements The other points are beyond my wit to advise on ....... thankfully BUT I'm sure someone will pop along with thoughts on costs etc Good luck Rob Malc -
BUT not everybody in power acts that way . Malc
