  1. Just returned from a 15 day tour of Scotland, something I've wanted to do for many years since the last in 1995. Along craggy switchback type tracks and main roads with tiny passing places .... the brakes and power of the 4.0 ltr was incredibly useful. Stunning and breathtaking scenery and all from the comfort of 2,888 miles in my trusty LS400. If you're travelling that way then fill-up at Tescos in Dingwall or Inverness where unleaded is a staggering 130.9p ........ in Ullapool I had to pay 149.9p ............. average fuel consumption, well, a brilliant 30.9 mpg ! Malc
  2. Rudd hi, I would like to have details of the pdf for the Mk3 radio backlight fix please. Mine's ok at the moment but one day I'll probably need it. Thanks Don't seem to be able to message you on here ...... it used to be simple ! Malc
  3. I bought mine from a member on here last year .......... beautiful example too .......... trying to keep it that way ..................... now my third LS and 10 years of main motoring with the LS400 and I KNOW what I would be missing if I didn't keep it being in good condition ( forever ??? ) Malc
  4. There are threads on here that I remember from months back at which members have used non-Toyota / Lexus replacement blades and they have usually been far from happy with their operation. It always seemed to come down to using the T / L product for trouble, smear and noise free blade operation. Malc
  5. I am reliably advised that the Falken brand is actually manufactured by DUNLOP and is a good direct replacement for the original Dunlops on the LS400. Malc
  6. Don't know if it's pertinent but I recently read on here somewhere about blacktack .......... a form of bluetack only like a replacement for stronger than welding possibly............ Just a mention. Malc
  7. And there's a not inexhaustive thread ( s ) on here all about exhausts and Y sections and rusting flanges and replacing the cats But the stainless exhaust itself will probably last the life of the car ............ and still going strong on those now 24 years old I surmise too. Malc by way of comparatives ........... My cousin has just had to replace the cats on his 12 y/o jag ( yuk ) that he's had since brand new, immaculate and Jag serviced and wow, cost him £800 for the cats alone, fitted etc.
  8. Remember 100,000 miles and / or 10 year rule though ! My previous 1994 MK2 was cambelt changed at 3102 miles in 2004 ! Malc
  9. Just a quickie guys .......... in the real world ....... does anyone ever run their LS400 at 4000 / 5000 revs ??? Normal running, mine ( I think ) doesn't ever get past the early 3000's ! Malc
  10. Yuk , it's a Jag albeit a wonderful V12 ............. with an intermittent electrical fault that one will probably never resolve ! Value of this car .......... a big round zero I suspect. Malc
  11. I don't get this effect on my Mk3 ....... best to check the battery is fully OK ......... when they are even slightly " down " they can throw up all sorts of strange gremlins. Malc
  12. But don't the wheels look ever so similar to those on the Mk1 ........... timeless and classy Malc
  13. She looks a very smart car even now ! Clearly looked after and cherished .... to have had a private plate even. The Mk3 is a very good car and I hope you will enjoy her for a long time yet. Well done. ENJOY Malc
  14. So can you tell us mileage and cost ? and of course those all important piccys please ..... both before and after the valet :) Malc
  15. And I didn't pay Toyota / Lexus the £60 to re-fit the battery that was simply a 2 minute job !!! I think they could have offered a complimentary fit as I paid FULL price for it ! Rant over. Malc
  16. I changed the batteries on my prior Mk1 and Mk2 LS400s with non-Toyota but KNOW that only the Toyota specific will fit the Mk3 Malc
  17. When I changed my LS battery earlier this year the Toyota branded battery ( incidentally the ONLY battery that would fit the Mk3 ) was ever so good value compared to the other suppliers ( as if they could ) and I asked for a complimentary re-fit of the battery and Lexus said NO and that the workshop would charge me some £60 to fit !!!! They clearly really don't want business do they !! Malc
  18. They are out there .. I remember buying my Mk2 in Dec 2007 with 8542 miles and then 13 years old and absolutely pristine, out of the showroom like condition apart from the near perished original tyres !!! I think that cost me £3700 at the time ....... absolutely like brand spanking new for the 3.5 years I had it ....... loved it to bits. Shame it got written off :tsktsk: Malc
  19. Coz some 4 yrs ago with my 1994 Mk2 LS400 I went thru' the mill trying to find how to get mine fixed ! All sorts of expensive and time delaying options available . Chris Vince was a bit of a salvation at the time ! Malc
  20. I don't know what's wrong with yours but if it's just a Q of the dashlights vanishing then u could always get Chris Vince on here to fix it ..........I took mine to his place to fix and he had it out, fixed and back in a couple of hours ! 01252 540463 ..... nr Farnborough in Hants. Malc
  21. Dale, hi, can you tell us what restrictions you have to comply with to get classic car insurance please. Thanks. Malc
