  1. Just reading an old Lexus bill from August 2010 ( prior to my ownership ) Struts were £187.04 for the pair and £17 labour to fit and all + vat of course total £ 239.75 ( vat @17.5% then ) Malc
  2. But it's compulsory and if you don't get insurance then, well, you would be put up before the judge and rightly shot But seriously, I read the other day that the Govt has instigated an Inquiry into price fixing with car insurance ... ho hum ... can't see that getting very far ! Too many vested interests methinks. Malc
  3. Ha ha, SAGA tried to tell me that the Mk3 was a £100 extra premium because ......... well, it just was coz it was a Mk3 !!! What's the logic in that I asked ........ stumped for a reply they said ! My previously insured one with them was my Mk2. ...... and unlimited mileage and all the usual benefits of comprehensive cover. Malc
  4. Have u tried SAGA ? I have for 2 years now and of course, I'm 50+ ( a lot ) and they tried to beat me up on premium this last time around but " matched " LV and the premium plummeted. Malc
  5. Just take great care with your LS in the snow and ice .. no matter how carefully and slowly you may drive it seems to have a mind of its own and follows any pre-dredged tracks and ridges in the ice etc ......... just impossible to safely steer I found ! Can't wait for the next winter to be over and gone !! my g/fs car is not so bad in the snow tho' tiny width tyres helps Malc
  6. Might you have the cambelt to do soon ? That can be quite a cost. £2000 for a 57,000 miler with full SH sounds not bad to me BUT I'm sure the insurers wouldn't take much note of the soundness of the car if it came to a write off, that's sad but realistic I'm afraid. It takes very, very little damage to write a car off these days .... they would use a pukker repairer and the costs for even minor damage would likely be quite astronomical. ! Malc
  7. If your car is a Mk3 then you would have bought the battery significantly cheaper from Lexus ! Malc
  8. In times past, say 5 / 7 years ago, I investigated this pre-fill stuff so's one never had a total flat BUT the concensus was that the sealant buggered the sealing of the tyre to the rim at some stage and gave one an irreperable slow leak eventually ............... and permanently. Malc
  9. Alternatively I suppose one can take stuff directly to the DVLA offices ? That's unless they have now closed all the local one's down . I remember going to the local one in Maidstone Kent when I was a car dealer ..... that way I knew without a doubt that they had everything that I gave them and we could resolve any issues on the spot. Malc
  10. Better this way to end an illustrious life than the breakers yard through some dopey thing going wrong that makes it uneconomic to repair ! especially as the driver was ok.......... wow, was that just luck or are we really safety conscious drivers who try to prevent even the worst scenario taking us out. Malc
  11. Smacks of MALADMINISTRATION and I would at least tell them this and that you are going to insist that this course is pursued unless they take the sensible route and cancel the whole nonsense. I would always refer the issue to a more senior officer and then upwards and onwards to an even more senior officer until you eventually get satisfaction. I predict that they will decide to give in before the maladministration angle takes effect ! Try it at least. Malc
  12. Welcome to the Club ......... you really can become a " boy racer " and burn up all the others on the road if you wanted ... I won't mind Wish I could have had one when I was 18 too ................ I think I had a Ford Cortina 1200cc ..... loooooong time ago now Malc
  13. ( chuckle chuckle ) ........... I found out about the LS400 ten years ago and wouldn't change my driving habits for any other car in the world. Like abs66 comment " the intelligent owners club " :winky: Malc
  14. Many members on here replace batteries directly from Toyota / Lexus. They seem to be doing good deals on them at the moment. You'll be lucky maybe and get them to fit for free too .... I wasn't, a 5 minute job and they wanted £60 !! didn't pay of course. But they certainly supplied me with a good value original Toyota battery that actually FITS. Malc
  15. I struggle to determine that there are other cars besides the LS400 that one can expect to get an excellent example at 18 + years old . And there are really plenty of them about too ! And that one can expect many more years of luxurious motoring with little maintenance too. We are in a group of very clever people who have found an incredibly good niche to enjoy luxury motoring at comparatively negligible cost. Certainly far less cost than maintaining an elderly Jaguar or Bentley or RR ( heaven forbid ). Malc
  16. How about surreptitiously importing it into Australia ....... without paying the duty somehow ! I think the LS600 is equiv of £225,000 there with tax. Malc
  17. One brand new LS600h L or 50 Mk3 LS 400s ...... what a choice ! Wonder which I would prefer Guess part of the Lexus problem is that they made ( historically ) cars sooooooo fine and excellent Malc
  18. I would get the battery checked out first to see if any cells are suspect and if not, well, then the choice is yours and you will know that you won't have a definite need right now. But a cold winter brrrr ..... who knows ! Malc
  19. see if Chris Vince can help with the dimming dash ? He fixes the Mk1s and 11s 01252 540463 Malc
  20. Maybe I was there ,... see my post 8th. Sept " Grand Tourer " ........... I didn't see any other LS400 during my trip ! Malc
