  1. Just don't take it to Lexus though ...... might prove too costly by far ! Malc
  2. Hi Jiogmaster My only experience / learning is from picking up on the various threads on this Forum. I'm not advising against, just commenting on what I have seen perhaps being the concensus relating to the LS400 ................ not the LS430. ManicMark suggests above, going to Lexus for the Gear Box full 20 litre flush and refill at £140 ......... not a DIY prospect maybe on this specifically. Memory says, I think, that partial drain and fill might be a total waste of time on the LS400............ untouched it's an incredibly smooth gearbox. In 10 years of driving 3 X LS400s:, Mk1 and Mk2 and now the Mk3 and covering perhaps 150,000 miles, I have never had to have a gearbox even topped-up ! not even ( knowingly ) on scheduled servicing. Malc
  3. Earlier Topics on some or all of these specifics .... somewhere: If my memory serves me, In essence: maybe it's best NOT to self change ( or indeed ever try to change ) the Gearbox Oil. And beware of using absolutely the correct oil too. The Cooling System change can take forever to show a refill to the proper constant reservoir level. Might need topping-up for ages and ages with normal driving and motoring. Malc
  4. There was possibly a specific tyre developed for the LS430 ( all those years ago ). I remember that Dunlop developed the D8z specifically for the LS400 ( in 1989 ? ) but sadly these are no longer manufactured. Maybe worth asking Lexus at the Centre. Malc
  5. wondered why the offside was duller than the nearside at night. The nearside headlamp bulb connector was cleaned-up for the last MOT and now I have had to have a new offside bulb. As my guy went to clean the connector ( which he did ) it still failed to be bright enough so investigated further and one of the 3 pins of the bulb, at the connector just fell away from the back of the bulb ............... shoddy Japanese workmanship or what .... original bulb I guess, the writing was Japanese on it Malc
  6. In my sad experience the airport carparking ( Heathrow ) provides instant and free battery relief !!! Guess they want the spaces freed-up Malc
  7. That one didn't last long then !!! I thought 17 years was about right and that's the first thing I look for if and when that warning light ever comes on Malc
  8. btw, see you have a little rust in the corners there ..... best treat it with summat I guess Malc
  9. Is your LS a Mk 3 ? Took me about 30 secs to change my offside rear stop bulb ! I followed the manual instructions too, nowhere near as complicated as the Mk 1 LS400 that was really challenging. I suppose you're dreadfully unlucky that a bulb has actually gone, probably the first time in 16 years eh ! Malc
  10. We have seen many discussions on engine oils for these cars before, and recently too, well last year anyway. If my memory serves me I seem to remember the conclusion that Fully Synthetic is NOT the way to go for the older LS400s,, but to go SEMI synthetic ! Malc
  11. Maybe ask ACLex on here about coilovers .......... I bought his LS400 and asked him to return the car to original removing those as I preferred the look. Sure he knows lots about the subject. Malc
  12. I once had rear parking sensors on a big Merc ( don't know which one it was now but an expensive bugger, ( my ) a car sales stock car ) some 10 years ago and I happily reversed into a low post that dodged the sensor placings on the rear bumper ......... before associated cameras tho' Malc
  13. And the fish fingers, well, we may be an island but due to EU regs probably can't actually catch the right fish that have fingers !! Malc
  14. hey, the guy on here selling is ManicMark .... I bought mine off here ACLex some 18 months ago .... lovely car too, Members are good keepers of their loved steeds ! Malc
  15. looks a pretty car and with FLSH ( has it ? ) should be good. Seems a tad expensive at £2k though ! someone else on a recent post here has a similar with LPG at £2k ...... might be worth considering that too, a club contributor. Malc
  16. OMG I saw another one today and graciously let him pull out of an awkward turn on a busy road ............. he flashed too, think his M335BCL fancies mine !!!! :outforcount: So rare to see another LS400 in Herne Bay. Malc
  17. Mine has been split for a while on my Mk3. It is so low ...... and I keep scrubbing it again and again ... so I probably won't bother replacing it coz I know it would just shatter again quite soon ... ho hum .. that's life Malc
  18. No your not. I was a car dealer and happened to take in part exchange a LS400 that I couldn't then shift ! So I drove ir as my personal car and some 10 years later and now on my third I realise just how lucky I was to chance upon the LS400. Many dealers / traders love some of their cars and will nurture and love it as their own ( which of course they are ). They have a simple financial interest in the car and will preserve it's value as best as possible until it's sold ...... simple economics. There's going to be a good one out there for you, you've just got to be picky and a dedicated hunter. Malc
  19. Bluesman hi, couldn't help but chuckle ............ I remember my business partner showing me how to just use my mirrors to reverse after he saw me trying to contort in the driver's seat ! It's easy once you get used to it and I can judge how close I am to the car behind from the LS bootlid edge now. Only taken a few years to get there Malc
