  1. guess he, the dealer, got caught out when he bought it at auction. You don't get the opportunity to test drive a car to my knowledge, AND ALWAYS LEAVE ENOUGH MARGIN , a few £000s to overcome these possible gremlins. One of the tough reasons not to buy at auction. BUT he might have bought a " winner " and sold on a great car. That's life. Malc
  2. Can you keep it forever ? well, quite likely. I'm doubtless going to keep mine until some dastardly event overtakes me that I just can't keep it anymore, like a write-off ( again maybe ) AND AT THAT TIME I will be forced into making a decision on my next LS and that will probably be a Mk 4 or a 460,....... too much non-positive stuff I've been reading for it to be a 430 methinks ! Malc
  3. All I would ask is : Why change from near perfection into the unknown ? We all know that your LS 400 will probably still outlast and cost far less to run than a LS460 ............. don't we !!! Malc
  4. I guess to be on the safe side then we should be replacing the serpentine belt with the cambelt change. Malc
  5. What is the actual time / mileage life of the serpentine belt ? Thanks Malc
  6. My prior 1994 Mk2 LS 400 I bought in Dec 2007 with 8542 miles, like brand spanking new ( apart from near perished tyres ) with the cambelt Lexus changed at 3106 miles in 2004. I did 35,000 glorious and trouble free miles in it over the next 3 years before it was written-off. The low miles didn't seem to do my car any harm whatsoever, from experience I would say this other car might be a bit of a bargain Malc
  7. All I know is that on the Mk3 there's a switch on the left of the steering column that if accidentally pushed will revert the column to " non " mode. Malc
  8. Is there just an " on / off " switch to the left of the column ? as in the Mk3 Malc
  9. Just a thought, I wonder if I'm the guy who's been longest driving an LS 400 in the LOC ............ now just over 10 years .......... haven't I been lucky ? or just clever to have found the LS 400 all those years back Malc
  10. I remember the Govt of the day saying that it would equalise the value of LPG to that of petrol. And that's what's happening, albeit slowly at the moment. It's an easy revenue earner for the Govt. don't expect them not to maximise their tax take at some time ( soon ) Malc
  11. Can't believe that bulb has only lasted 12/13 years, the older models have greater longevity, changed an original headlamp bulb on mine last month ! Malc
  12. If it's cheap enough and has a new MOT that's genuine and the insurers are happy to insure it then, YES I would. Could still have it's prior history and servicing schedule to give you some comfort too. How much is it and what's it all about then ? Malc
  13. When I was in Australia for 6 weeks last March / April I was based around Melbourne and travelled a couple of thousand miles by road in that time and all I saw was a single, solitary LS 400 ! Not very common there, the tax regime on a brand new LS 600 took the cost to @£220,000 ( yes pounds ! ) Malc
  14. When my g/fs mazda had a clutch problem the part arrived from Japan in 3 days to my mechanic in the UK And Japan is comparatively " just around the corner " from NZ ! Malc Good luck with it.
  15. It's very silver in real life too ................ can't for the life of me see where there's any aspect to green at all ! Maybe my dotage and eyesight, it's only 20/20 vision most of the time. Malc
  16. But what's the point ? I thought one couldn't start the car unless it was in Park ! Malc
  17. it's actually Aspen Green believe it or not ! just like silver though. malc
  18. call me old fashioned but I preferred it like this, and as I bought it ......... just wish it looked as clean today Malc
  19. Hi guys, this is now my car and the picture from ACLex before he changed it back to " original " style for me Malc
  20. My Mk3 is an absolute " cracker " but I've only had a Mk1 and a Mk2 prior. Malc
