  1. and why not !! a few years ago I bought my late Mk2 with 8542 miles at 13 years old ....... like brand spanking new apart from perished tyres. .......... with cambelt changed at 3100 miles and 10 years old by Lexus main dealer Malc
  2. makes a mockery of the figures that Insurance Companies want to pay out on total losses with cars of this ilk Malc
  3. It would be really good if there was an authoritative piece on this somewhere. The cost potential of new cats is quite high and if there is a simple and effective and safe solution then we should know about it. ECP Euro Car parts ( the name on the amazon link ) is a well known and respected supplier of all sorts ( I think ! ) Is there a way forward here somehow guys ? Malc
  4. DHPs do seem to eat tyres ...... the standard LS400 gently wears the 225 x 60 x 16 tyres at an economic rate methinks Malc
  5. every 62k and /. or 10 years ............... no rush, just when ur ready Malc
  6. I would have no hesitation spending a thousand or two in maintenance over a couple of years to keep my LS400 on the road. What else can u get similar that's going to be so goddam good and economical maintenance wise for so many years ahead Malc
  7. LPG gives it a little more desirable secondhand value too I guess Malc
  8. The Mk3 actually physically doesn't have the lenses, the fog lights are within the headlamp/sidelight cluster itself Well, my Mk 3 doesn't have them anyway ! Malc
  9. unless it's a different spec from a UK 1996 car, a Mk3, then it shouldn't have the fog lights cluster. Malc
  10. Hi Spandex I have owned a Mk1, 2 and now a Mk3 ...... all of them fabulous cars. Mk3 is the best. Driving them as a main car for 10.5 years and wouldn't want to drive any other limo. Pas pumps leak on the Mk1 and 2, exhausts blow at the flanges eventually but fixing is well documented here. The pas pump leaks onto the alternator and that's expensive, but again should last 150,000 miles at least Batteries last for years and years, wiper blades best bought from Lexus / Toyota coz they last a lot longer than other brands. The Mk3 battery is really only replaceable by Toyota coz of it's shape and the slot ...... and it's only £70 or so ( cheaper than halfords etc ) The big expense on the Mk1 I had was the front suspension stuff, really only worth getting Lexus parts, last for 150,000 miles min. Stop lamp bulbs last at least 16 years and cost a couple of squid and 2 mins to change provided you read the manual. The Mk3 seeds a little better with fuel consumption and the wisdom that I read on here is that the car runs more economically when the gearbox is in PWR mode. Original Dunlop tyres are no longer made but Falken, said to be made by Dunlop seem a great substitute. All in all, fabulous and non-destructable cars where the power train will outlast everything else on the car, and on the road forever. Just superb motoring whichever you choose. Malc
  11. and is it to be Fully Synthetic or ? I did read on here somewhere, don't remember where, that Semi is correct for these older cars. Malc
  12. Guess the reason it took them so long to do the job ( 10 minutes ) was coz it's the first one they have done in years ! They usually last about 15 years or so. Malc
  13. Whatever the Mk Ls 400, seeing even one on the road is now like finding a needle in a haystack ! Malc
  14. And where would you have found another 40,000 miler ! Getting rarer and more collectable by the day it would seem Malc
  15. I should perhaps mention that the other day my brake light came on and whilst the fluid level seemed absolutely fine my mechanic guy just topped up a smidgeon, almost imperceptible, and the light went out and has stayed out ! He thought the sensor was really overly sensitive; but it did solve the issue. Malc
  16. Hi my personal experience with the brake warning light is that it could be simply a rear stop lamp gone ! or if it is the pads then you might well have several thousand miles of wear left. Lexus seems to give loads of latitude here. Malc
  17. My man in East Kent would do it for you ......... but it might cost you what you would save, in petrol and overnight etc ! Malc
  18. Rust, well, that's dreadful ! Another reason not to trade-up ???? to a 430 from a 400 maybe Malc
