  1. Blimey . I must have been on some sort of drug that fine day Malc
  2. aha, I think you're probably totally wrong there ...... if you keep it long enough, and by golly it will last you forever methinks ...... when you've changed much of the non-perishable, say suspension stuff first time around at say 150k miles ... you will be changing them again at 300k milkes ...... then when you've done 450k miles you might want a change of model .. but nonetheless another Lexus Malc
  3. Malc

    Rust

Nick ..........Have you had an independent and more sensible garage, indy, or bodyshop advise on this specifically ? £750 seems a silly amount tbh Malc
  4. there's some prior posts somewhere about Ls430 similar issues on the front doors ...... some were caught under the 10 year warranty and Lexus paid but other's well, i guess just lived with it and sold-on I doubt it's too serious BUT if one's car is to be pristine, unlike mine ever, then maybe one needs a more significant pristine soluition ..... expensive no doubt tho' Malc
  5. 😈 . and there I was today just running my hands over the rear nearside door and blow me down, the first pinprick of rust under the chrome door strip Never heard of this before on the Mk3 Ls400 . later cars yes............. Well, never mind, theres some surface rust on that nearside rear wheel arch too Nothing to worry about, nowts pristine on my dear old lady nowadays ... time for another 4k mile one month trip to somewhere sometime this summer / autumn methinks I fancy Ireland again .... Pembroke / Fishguard to Rosslare OR Holyhead to Dublin .......... your thoughts gentlemen ...... I did Holyhead to Dublin before ..... lovely restful sea crossing too at the time Malc
  6. Not so sure about that at all ... his devout Hinduism might get him into family family family life ........ his need for any more ££££ doesn't exist My fear is that he will be lost to UK politics and benefitting our country .. it will be a sad day should that ever happen methinks Malc
  7. a very good looking motor, to be commended ...... mpg is totally irrelevant when you've bought a Lexus V8 Deciding when to stop the spending on " improvements " is always a tad challenging ......... I've always a mind's eye on the write-off value should summat silly happen to a beloved car .... insurers can be and usually are just after saving themselves money and bells and whistles, new wheels, tyres etc count for nowt . well, in my experience anyway Might you go for an Agreed Value with your insurer ? Malc
  8. and then there is the Sage of Omaha . dear old and ancient Warren Buffet who, bless his soul seems to be the one and only in the news from time to time with his head generally screwed on straight ...........he thinks crypto will probably go up in it's own puff of smoke .............. the more it's adopted by dopey economies in South America and Africa and the general public buying this stuff suddenly finds Aunt Agatha's bequest has really now diminished to zero value ...... More Tea Vicar ( as someone said here recently ) Ho hum .... let's all vote for Ganzoom to be the next Chancellor at least ......... in the absence of anyone else suitable to replace the, to my mind, brilliant Rishi when he's elevated to be Prime Minister coz methinks he's probably the only politician of all and any persuasion, with his head screwed on right these days ........... a Warren B in the making maybe and probably the best we can muster for Good 'ol Blighty Teetotal to the Tee eh ! Malc
  9. I think that formula would never be known in general terms ...... depends who you are as the Borrower methinks ........... a good creditworthy soul, or a bad creditworthy one ... a nation borowing, again good or bad, UK or Argentina ...... or like me, only ever put my hand in my pocket to take out loose change that never earnt me a sue in interest ...... indeed deposit interest rates now range between say 0.001% and probably nigh on 50 / 60 / 70 / 100% if you're borrowing from your credit card company It's OK tho' a ganzoom Chancellor can make it all up as he goes along ...... the figures never lie eh ! Malc
  10. I think you definitely should be our next Chancellor of The Exchequer or indeed the Prime Minister who is, I understand, First Lord of the Treasury ( have I got that right ? ) ............. then we can safely rest asured that all is well with the Kingdom and in your safe hands Malc
  11. then why the grief for fossil fuels, petrol and diesel if keeping them going is "green " ? Malc
  12. that's amazing longevity I used to buy the Lexus wiper rubbers and they lasted years too BUT the last set just lasted a year and then I couldn't justify spending several X that cost of " ordinary " rubbers so started on the annual replacement with cheapies ........... that seemed to last as long as OEM, well, a year whatever And that's now 22 years with Ls400 wiper rubbers Maybe the next set I'll revert to the Main Dealer / Toyota again Malc
  13. oh my ..... then I shan't display my comparative lack of wealth with unmaterialistic pictures showing my ancient cars and my ancient house with my ancient, well antique are some, furnishings ................. it really is all irrelevant .............. and quite irreverent to boast too methinks of both materialistic and pauperish offerings .......... seriously tho' Matthew I do quite concur with much of what you say ................ and commiserate with Gang for having the mindset so often portrayed herein ....... jeez what to have, blimey a Tesla , wow, I'm impressed Reading Musk is worth a staggering £178bn at the last count and is going to change the world .... again .... with his twittish purchase of Twitter .......... does he naturally inherit Trump too in his purchase I wonder .......... like souls eh ! Malc
  14. I think a lot of wind is called for Malc
  15. and was I reading recently that a huge quantity of our electric comes from France ...... OMG when will our dependency on unreliable sources ......... politicians AND neighbours end .... possibly never methinks ......... break out another bottle of Evian then Malc
  16. goes a little deeper methinks .. PM taking responsibility to keep some sanity in UK with the nutter Poo-Tin about to nuke the UK maybe ..... we need some consistency right now and quite frankly, apart from Rishi Sunak I cannot see any person in politics of any colour being any damned use to protect this country at this challenging time and dear old Rishi ....... jeez why oh why on earth would he want to end up in UK ( or any other ) politics ..... that must reek of some sort of insanity ............ sleepless nights and all that crap when all he, and his family, might really really want or need is a good and sensible rational homelife .... well if any one can with a billionaire background ...... the country would be a little lost without him imho I hope he doesn't sup Evian or some non-UK stuff Malc
  17. and the mileage in that time ? Malc
  18. Malc

    Rust

from what images you've sent . can't see it's much other than surface rust which could do with some adept fingers and wet'n dry to rub it all off ... maybe ! Is there anything else you can see or feel ? Malc
  19. I'm sad ............ you're seemingly fixated on your own personal thoughts on a solution and clearly from this and perhaps other posts here, just not open to understanding and accepting the apparent needs of many others ..... I do get it quite fully however Malc
  20. another tale ..... when touring somewhere near Melbourne I think ....... not me driving .. the propensity for damn kangaroos to jump out of the bush into your path ...... we missed 'em all .. but only just sometimes Malc
  21. and for the innocent and scrupulous Hindu teetotaller who got inadvertently dragged into a cake pre-meeting ..... ...........wine and water .......... and then Red beer and beer ..................might the PM have been contemplating turning water into wine at his business meeting Malc
  22. oh . and the non-Government lies from those who would want to be in Govt .......... BIG Question ..............What's the difference between Partygate and Beergate ? Malc
  23. and you didn't spend £400 to fix the problem then ?? Malc
  24. I have an electric smart meter and no gas smart meter ..... to fit a gas one they would have to demolish part of the corner internal house wall of the room meter cupboard to get to the pipework proper ..... they decided to leave the existing gas non-smart meter in situ ...... suits me either way tbh and freezers with electric ( of course ) can last frozen inside for many hours without power if the door's unopened ............ that's what I understand when we get the rare power cut Is it all really a major issue ? Just don't see how they can possibly actually save us money ...... nor cost us money unless it's going haywire and kaput and out of control ... but then any meter can do that surely .. not just a very un-smart, smart meter or have I missed summat serious in these arguments Malc
