  1. Long time ago my Mk1 alternator was replaced at about £150 incl. labour I think ( reconditioned exchange, maybe 9 years ago now ! ) failure largely caused by the leaking pas pump .... a known fault ..... and it just " went " one night on the motorway, very frustrating ! Malc
  2. Who did the work for you ? any pictures of your beloved ? sounds like Lexus main dealer prices though ! Your car is priceless to you so it doesn't matter the cost really Malc
  3. Mike, thanks for reminding me :arrrggg-matey: I'm still mulling over what I am to do about Saga and in my mind the total rip-off that they have stuffed me with !!! :megaangry: Malc
  4. I understand that one probably wouldn't get stopped for speeding if you're not exceeding the speed limit by 10% + 2mph : 70 = 77+2 = 79 mph and you're safe ! Malc
  5. Those boy racers and their Bentley's eh !!! ......... when will they learn not to mess with an LS owner ! Malc
  6. So sorry to hear your dreadful news .......... . would be really interesting to have a prognosis on how the plug melted ! Malc
  7. Please tell us about the need for a new rear sub-frame ........... as all of ours get older we need to be aware of simple solutions where possible. Thanks Malc
  8. Today, for the first time ever, I had the surprise of being driven in the back seat of my own LS400 ... my car mechanic was driving the car to the MOT station for its re-test ( emission failure, welding the rusting Y section to sort it ....... £35 ) and I was approaching his garage when I saw him driving, he stopped, I jumped in the back and WOW, what an amazing experience .. I drooled over the pleasure that any rear seat passengers have from being in MY car ........... just thought, what a fabulous car and experience !!!! Malc
  9. quite well documented on here with the 430 that the air suspension can be troublesome and sadly, expensive to sort out ! very few LS400s and the Celsior as the upmarket version had air and lexus thought it was ok to take it forward into the 430 ( mostly ) and it has often proved a little less than satisfactory with age and replacement cost ( horrendous ). Malc
  10. Thank you guys ... bigegg, yes, the difference was £141 increase for 10 months to renewal next February ...... and the risk factor was just 1 more crime in the area than at my previous postcode ............... am I wasting my time in taking this to The Ombudsman ??? ........ no other changes to the risk. Thanks guys Malc
  11. But it's got the dreaded air suspension tooooooooo :outforcount: Malc
  12. Possibly try the expansion tank cap ......... the rubber seal might have perished a little by now .... quite an inexpensive fix ( new cap ) Malc
  13. Hi guys, my son-in-law has done lots of " cleaning " to my computer and hey presto ..... I can get back to the joy of the main Forum. Malc
  14. Hi guys and gals ............ if you take the time to read this perhaps you would advise me as to if I should ask Saga to quote me for Lexus insurance at renewal next February !! Thank you. This seems to be the definitive answer from Saga to my consternation and you might notice notice from pge 2 that I am more or less precluded from taking it further forward to The Ombudsman !!! saga letter 2.pdf ho hum ...... Malc
  15. Martin, hi, if indeed you have an engine problem like you think you may have ( or indeed any engine problem at all ) then that is wholly exceptional ..... these V8s in the LS400 are more robust than any other car in the world ever .......... I have followed the thread about your issues and really can't believe it's other than condensation related ( from the exhaust boxes ) and therefore really not a problem, let alone an issue !! Hope I'm right Malc sorry if I've posted this in the wrong thread BUT I'm still being IT teccy rejected from the Forum generally ...... . as are a few others .
  16. Totally agree with you Lexmanic ............. I so thought the Mk1 was / is a fabulous looking car ............... streets ahead of the competition at the time ....... and still is in my book Malc
  17. OMG I've never encountered such niceties when buying a car, even privately ............. but as I won't ever be changing my Lexie I doubt I'll ever need to carry any large wads of cash with me for car buying .......... they are all so inexpensive to buy these days anyway our dear LS400s ........... aren't they ??? Malc
  18. Colin Barber, notice you're STAFF ....... hey, I'm still getting this problem, is it me or is it the website ? On my desk top computer, never had this problem before ! Thanks. Malc
  19. I'm having exactly the same problem and am getting really peed off !!!!! I had anticipated it was something to do with me and was awaiting my son-in-law teccy to come and sort out the hiccup in my computer BUT if others are having the self same issue then LEXUS please sort out your own hiccup and let us aficionados get back to our " fix ". The withdrawal symptoms aren't nice.............. Malc
  20. Quite simply, the only provider of the correct battery to actually fit the slot in the Mk3 is Toyota / Lexus and the cost is less expensive than any other make and it will probably last 5 years and it actually FITS. Personal experience. Malc
  21. update ... Saga tell me that they are looking into this ......... I'll let you know how it progresses Malc
  22. The Mk3 has the front foglamps integrated in the headlamp settings, the Mk4 has them separate, much like the Mk1 and Mk2 And Jan 1995 will be a Mk3. Malc
  23. Hi, I have had a Mk1 and Mk2 and now my Mk3 ................. all superb and I think I do prefer the Mk3 and support all you say. !0.5 years of LS400 driving has spoilt me. My other car, the g/fs , is a 1994 Mazda 323f hatch ( poppy-up headlights ) and I ensure that we always have one or other of the cars in fine fettle and manage the servicing and repairs accordingly. Rather than the Mazda as a second car I would rather the g/f had a LS400 BUT she says a firm ........... NO One monster is enough in the family she tells me and to be honest I do quite enjoy driving the sporty little manual Mazda. Malc
