  1. Reading a few days ago now, Toyota came nearly top in the reliability stakes BUT....... VW, and BMW came very close to the BOTTOM !! Malc
  2. Have we seen this car before, quite recently ??? Why no mileage specified then !!! Malc
  3. Wow, hope so too .... tell us Steve, would we all maybe benefit from Redex ? I remember it being a regular shot into the petrol tank in those heady days when I was a petrol pump attendant in the 60's !! when I was a young lad that is......... weekend job to buy my new Hillman Imp :outforcount: Malc
  4. Don't know if this helps: ................ long time ago we had an Alfa and the tyres, under heavy driving pressure, went oval and caused mayhem driving but seemed ok at lower speeds ! Malc
  5. Totally concur. I bought mine off ACLex on here ( or he used to be ) the parts manager at Lexus Poole Dorset ...... a wonderful car too.......... and of course a totally reliable guy. Malc
  6. Ian, well, yes of course if I was so inconsiderate as to leave them little other option ........ after all it's only a car albeit my Lexus ............ mustn't take life too seriously ...... just remembering a couple of weeks ago visiting the Humber Collection in Hull ........ lovely fella there who owns it Alan Marshall .... took 3 of his cars ( drove them ) to a NEC show ( I think, the NEC ) only had time to leather them off at the show and let all and sundry oooh and aaahhhh over the cars, lots of touchy feely too ...... a chap with a pristine Austin Healey 3000 also at the show with his " baby ", trailered it in under wraps too, wouldn't let people breathe anywhere near it, not a drop of oil or anything at all with the car to trouble it's concourse state ......... The Humbers won the show !!!! his view too, only cars BUT of course special cars but really there to be used everyday if he can and not to be wrapped in cotton wool and worrying over every slight hiccup along the way ( life's too short ). Malc .................. ... maybe it's my dotage !!!!!
  7. Just wonder how many deposits he actually managed to take !!!!! :shruriken: Malc
  8. I think we might see more of our wonderful cars being stolen to order ........... :arrrggg-matey: ..... and becoming irrecoverable Malc
  9. Well, it's not THAT often !!!!! and a very slight nudge really doesn't do any harm at all ........... generally occurs when I get a bit boxed in by another car in a car parking space and there's zero option other than to stay in that spot till Christmas maybe Malc
  10. Ah parking ...... my personal sensor when parking, ME, lines up the end of the boot lid with the very bottom ( just ) of the car's windscreen behind it .... then I know I have about 3 inches spare gap between the two cars ......... nearly works every time Malc
  11. Really interesting ....... we had a brief chat before somewhere on here about the Honda Legend ....... do you have a view on the comparisons ?? Malc
  12. If it's a Lexus main dealer service could you not, or the seller obtain, a printout from Lexus of the FLSH ?? Malc
  13. Amberamiane ur absolutely correct BUT ............. when 2.5 years ago my late Mk2 was a write off from vandalism i had big rows with the insurers on those lines. They eventually upped their offer from £800 to £2000 which i accepted ....... a 94 Mk2 with 42k miles ( i think ) then Offered them the option of replacing like with like and they told me to go forth and multiply !!! Malc
  14. I don't like saying this but I do wonder if the Lexus workshop is really that competent !!!! These LS400 drivetrains are robust beyond anything one could imagine ........ the engines and gearboxes are bullet proof, so is the exhaust too ( apart from the Y section and that could have been repaired quite simply ! ) I would so want for a local member to you, if there is anyone on this forum, to go see your car and review just what has been happening here ......... it's just beyond comprehension that you have encountered such dreadful experiences. My heart goes out to you SHELLDRAKE, I think you have come up against something that is totally NOT normal. Malc
  15. But it's a 1997 car ........... late Mk3 ??? and they ARE stainless steel !!!! or even if it's an early Mk4 ..... summat not quite right there methinks !!!! Malc
  16. I'm just a little intrigued here ....... did the stainless system rot through then ? sorry to be so inquisitive but it's just ghastly !!! Malc
  17. Are you sure the exhaust was £2300 ............... what on earth did they do for that money ???? Malc
  18. Could be one of the very few investments at that price that one could really, really enjoy. The rust ( if any ) can be sorted and if one had even a minor knock on absolutely any car these days the insurers might well write it off !!! Unless of course you actually insure it as a Classic with an Agreed Value ....... then you might win ! Malc GO4IT ....... if you don't someone else is bound to.
  19. Go buy it, it looks great and I doubt you would find another looking so well turned out. It will last you forever mind so be prepared to love it to the end of time won't you !!! Malc
  20. you will buy cars with all the toys !!!! That's what scares most of us oldies with Mk1 - 4 Ls400s, they are so relatively simple to maintain yet probably aren't much less comfy etc than later 430s and 460s ( maybe ) Malc
  21. Ganesh hi, it's a Mk1 and looks to be probably one of the best surviving I'd have thought. Malc
  22. I guess the Mk1, Mk 2 and Mk3 are getting rarer by the day and more sought after too Oh to have the space for a complete collection !!!! Malc
  23. If it's genuine then BUY IT I most certainly would if I was in the market for a second one and had somewhere to keep it ! Malc
  24. Pepe, I really can't remember where on this Forum over the years I have read the 100,00 / 10 year thoughts on the Mk4 cambelt change, apologies. I do try to read most of what goes on here and to take it all in ................ but age is against me !!!! BUT I do remember reading with certainty the cambelt destruction level at 150k miles .................. these OEM cambelts are just that strong. On my Mk 3 I'm taking the view to change the belt, tensioners and waterpump at @180k miles ( that will be it's third change of belt ), probably in 3 / 4 years time and within the 10 year timeframe. ...... and at that mileage the plugs and leads too.
