  1. Bad on my part I know BUT if I find I'm having to overtake at speed on the motorway and the bugger on the inside starts playing silly buggers and doesn't let me pass I just don't try ...... BUT I do keep alongside him for as long as it takes, which isn't too long before HE needs to overtake the car in front of him and he can't coz I'm in the space he wants to be in ........ a little satisfaction for me, silly I know ....... ..... then I fly away ...... as usual, effortlessly Malc
  2. I pay £55 for my independent MOTs and my service guy takes it there and gets it passed, tweaking whatever might need doing at the time ....... we have two cars, they always pass ........... MOTs go with the annual servicing and I pay him £30 an hour ( no vat, low turnover ) and cost price for parts he uses. Been successfully looking after my cars now for 6 years ......... bills are usually on the floor and he's competent, diligent and all the things one wishes in a mechanic. Malc
  3. Sadly just confirmed the guy brought me 2 brand new wheels with tyres ( Dunlop D8Z ) from 9 spoke variety which I assume is a Mk1 and / or Mk2 .... definitely NOT our Mk3 10 spoke wheels though......... and 18 years old as a minimum !!!! bit sad but there we are. Malc
  4. Pepe, wot a credit to you and the guys doing the work ................ looks just like mine Brilliant. Hope no bugger comes along and spoils it for you, EVER Malc
  5. May be a little known fact ( shoot me down if I'm wrong please ) BUT one can hold a second ( or more ) cars effectively as a " pension fund " or part, as upon sale cars do NOT attract Capital Gains Tax. Doesn't apply of course if the HMRC consider you to be dealing or trading . Malc
  6. OMG ..................... headlight bulb takes about 5 minutes on a Ls400 !!! Malc
  7. And then we have RRs and Bentleys that cost a fortune new, cost a fortune to keep on the road, always break down and are more or less worthless towards the end of their lives UNLESS they are special one's when they are worth a mega fortune too ............. how weird can car prices be !!! I guess I'll probably be the last buyer of the last Ls400 ..................... even if I have to source one from USA or Australia or wherever .......... assuming I ouitlive and outdrive my Mk3 :outforcount: Malc
  8. On my Mk2 and Mk3 I bought Lexus replacement wiper rubbers. Expensive but don't smear, squeak or rub away at the screen AND they last about 3 years. Other brands just don't perform. Malc
  9. and those goddam awful wheels too ..... have we seen it mentioned before, recently on here ? Malc
  10. ................. the after effect of shotgun cartridge fallout maybe ............. who owned the car prior ..... are you in gangster land !!!! Malc
  11. Try one of the other usual culprits if I was you !!! That's a dopey price to pay .... @£1000 Malc
  12. Hi, I may have one for you by the end of this week ( see my very recent post on Dating Tyres ). Where ru ? Malc
  13. Always found it best to buy Lexus OEM replacement wiper rubbers............. £19 or so at the last count, more expensive cost wise than Halfords etc.in the short term BUT they don't squeak or rub and they have longevity too ........... . about 3 years a pair. Malc
  14. I have found historically, that trying to change a wheel at the side of the road is extremely challenging, the jack barely keeps the weight of the car suspended !!!! ..............in a wind you will be a bit unhappy !! if you get a puncture, call the AA or RAC or whatever .... much simpler and safer I guess. Malc
  15. Thank you guys, very helpful. Now, do I avoid paying for the tyres if they are over a certain age I wonder ? Your thoughts please. Malc
  16. Hi guys, remember reading somewhere in a topic forum about recognising the dating symbols on the sides of tyres. A guy has offered me two brand new wheels with brand new original Dunlop tyres, totally unused. I'd just like to date them when he brings them round to show me. I know that elderly tyres might well be past their use by date even if " brand new ". Can you guide me with those symbols please ? Thanks. Malc
  17. Best to use it everyday methinks.......... why wouldn't you want all that luxury motoring every day ???? I do and 11 years of Ls400 motoring I have little choice but to use mine every day ....... and I'm far from disappointed at being placed in that situation .......... it's great nah, actually ............... it's fantastic. Malc
  18. Maybe you could have mentioned that you are a LOC member on here. ACLex is/was the Parts Manager at Lexus Poole and I bought his car ( a couple of years back tho' ). Malc
  19. ....... I would find it rather more than a little niggling to be faced with huge bills .............. can't see me changing from mine for a loooooong time to come. ( and we haven't even mentioned the Ls430 front pipes corroding that pass thru the radiator and bugger up the gearbox ........ or have I got that wrong ! possibly, but I'm sure someone will kindly remind me ) :outforcount: Malc
  20. Quite honestly guys .......... you would just NEVER get big bills with a Ls400 ........ perhaps the most daunting bill is for the upper control arms at say @ 200.000 miles and maybe now costing max £1500 to sort out with OEM parts for both sides. There is absolutely bugger all else to go wrong to that extent ( unless like poor ShellDrake Lexus seems to want to rip one off !!! ) And I have extended experience of the Ls400, now on my 3rd car in 11 years and lots of miles under the belt. Malc
  21. But not quite so simple ....... there are other threads here about this AND a simple concensus was that PWR does seem to give slightly improved fuel economy ............ economy of course is a misnomer on a 4ltr !!!! Malc
  22. On the Ls400 anyway, it is a switch next to the gear knob on the console, marked PWR ECT ...... PWR is I think power mode, well that's the way it feels ........ ECT is just " ordinary " mode for the gearbox .................. don't know if it's on the Ls430 though. I always used to think that the ECT was probably the more economic way of driving, felt like it was slipping effortlessly into overdrive or summat like that ................. no oooomph but plenty of power of course. PWR gives you everything PLUS the feeling of extra oooomph. :outforcount: Malc
  23. I just drive mine ................... someone said on another post that driving in PWR mode improves consumption, well, strangely, I think it does ( marginally ). I always now drive in PWR mode, it drives " quicker " and flies better and I think the fuel consumption is slightly improved too. Malc
  24. OMG financial catastrophe looms ............. stick to the Ls400 ! Malc
