  1. they don't use real chrome is the reason I'm guessing My Ls400 is fine ......... but it's very old and built of sterner stuff methinks BUT my 2006 Honda Legend is squeaky flakey chrome like yours ...... it's rubbish tbh ...... the car's so old now with other " blemishes " so it's liveable with Malc
  2. I think you need a hobby Who cares what it costs? Just enjoy it. OCD springs to mind ! My dad and my uncle Bert always used to keep a log of the petrol spent and journeys they did in their cars BUT I am talking of the mindset from 70 years ago ...... times thankfully have moved on .......... and so's the comparative cost of petrol probably .. but there hangs a Q ......... what is the comparative fuel costs these days I wonder Malc
  3. and why on earth not ........." road " tax must surely give priority to those who pay .. those who don't then please go to the bottom / back of the Q Malc
  4. ... and then there's the hydrogen car roll-out loming too at some stage or we could all just chill and simply hang on to our existing cars and let everyone else stress and fret about new and secondhand car prices, depreciaition / appreciation and generally availabilty of what we have'nt yet got ! this economic challenging time is making absoltely zero difference to my " automotive buying plans " Malc
  5. very loud sounding of the horn to get the cyclist to see some sense and move aside to let the cars pass ... as loud and as klaxonny as possible ......... deafen 'im if 'e don't shift over 😈 Malc
  6. yes for sure and great care should be taken over all this too ........... I won't bore you all again with my experiences of two well known insurers ...... one outstandingly GOOD and the other, well, the opposite neither of which have been mentioned on this Subject Post specifically Malc
  7. Jim . how about trying WBAC and those others for a buy-in price as another guide Malc
  8. and this today would be quite a rare sort after beast with some useful value too methinks Malc
  9. I've never found any sense to be had from any quoted car insurance premium I've been offered ........... ever ....... algorithms or nay ........ it's all a priceless and senseless algo with rhythm ........... just get what's best for you on the day when you're totally fed-up doing all the leg work to get non-sensical prices Malc
  10. I'm waiting for the day I can have a chat over a coffee with Warren Buffet .... just to see where I've been going wrong ...... can't leave it too long tho' eh ! Reading the other day his daughter convinced him to change his car, an upgrade, so he bought one 4 years old ......... so Adam, he's telling you to " stick " I'm sure . me too and I don't have his wisdom either ...... think Warren's old car might have been 16 years old or summat Malc
  11. I live on a semi residential road like many here and I'm not infrequently just glinting at a nail or screw having been carelessly dropped by someone somehow . I always pick it up and pop it into the closed lid bin ............... tyres can be so ridiculously expensive and especially nowadays when repairs seem to often be simply a NO If it can be repiared then great .... and maybe swap it for your spare .... or are you one of the unfortunates that doesn;t have a " proper " spare these days ? Malc
  12. Jim, maybe ask a auction house for a possible likely sale value too ? Malc
  13. just as an aside I'd be thinking the garage vendor has plenty of leeway to offer you a good warranty ......... I'm thinking their purchase price might have been @£3k .....but that configures with whatever the deal might have been done with the seller, if it was a p/ex or not .......... possibly going to be nigh impossible for you to determine the veracity of it all Good luck whatever Malc
  14. the gearbox would possibly be my only reservation ... I've no idea the cost of a replacement ............ bet the garage didn't pay half that for their stock car ... did they get it at the auction do you know ? Malc
  15. I'm anticipating at this mileage and age you're getting an amzingly good deal pricewise ? Malc
  16. Scotland sometimes did a 4 week 3k or so mile round trip from Kent . just ambling along taking in the scenery with no real fixed schedules . just finding o'nights here and there Likewise when i did the same in Ireland back in 2019 I think it was . but about 4k miles over that months adventure . Twas a long round trip via Fishguard tho' Malc
  17. The very few cars i did see were actually big buggers like ours .... Mercs BMWs and the like ... mine of course was the only Lexus Maybe we're the only one's left with a little spare ££££ Malc
  18. .......... an oxymoron maybe ..... I'm thinking when PooTin vanishes, quite soon hopefully from what I think we're witnessing these past days, and global sense prevails, the oil and gaz selling nations, including the new to be accepted Russia with a " normal " and acceptable non-tyrannical war-mongering Regime in place . we will evidence a significant drop in the " panic " price of these fuels ....... especially as there's going to be some sort of inevitable huge slowdown in manufacturing Chinese consumption with the now desperately sad and rampant covid they're experiencing Whatever ........ I shan't be locking in to any new deals come my energy supply contract renewal date of 18th May Malc
  19. wow, just another 429k miles left in her Malc
  20. 10 years young Lexus just ain't old tbh ...... and the brand new car feeling vanishes quite rapidly you know ! I used to be a car dealer ( and other things too ) and could rarely understand why anyone in their right mind would be p/ex'ing a perfectly good car for another good car from my forecourt ........ but I never refused their personal ambitions to " upgrade " and give me some money My last 22 years has been with a Ls400 . the first one a Mk1 I couldn't sell from my forecourt in a petrol time crisis it seemed ........ so I used it and never changed from a Ls400 ...... this one I've had for 11 years and now on 238k miles ........... and I've driven very very many marques in my time With Lexus you have the opportunity to keep with comparative low cost long term ownership staying with what you have Forget the " upgrading " to a later model car . it's usually expensive and totally pointless . especially in straitened times if you're there right now Malc
  21. Lien you're going to end up with a very fine early sort after car at the end of the day Lucky you .... what;s the mileage etc ? . Malc
  22. well known fact his speedo misreads by 10 or 12 mph Malc
  23. great news with yor springs ............. no idea here on radios etc I'm sure someone will come to your aid soon Malc
  24. Sunday was a brilliant weather day here in kent .... popped out thru' our brilliant countryside early afetrnoon . just ambling along, some new roads too which was a blesssing to find some tbh BUT so few cars on the road .. couldn't quite believe it . such a glorious day too ... So I'm thinking maybe the price of fuel, living costs etc might have at last caught up with people and keeping them back from the simple leisure pursuit of ad hoc motoring joy ............. is that likely I wonder Malc
