  1. I remember reading on here somewhere that it is strongly recommended NOT to change the gearbox oil under almost any normal running circumstances. Just top-up as appropriate. Malc
  2. seriously though Az ..... in my Mk3 the tank holds between 420 and 550 miles worth simply depending on how the car is driven. It is very susceptible to normal driving (420 per tankful 85.1 litres ) or up to 550 miles per tank when coasting along the motorways at 80 mph all day long or otherwise incredibly gentle motoring. thereby a qtr tank of petrol can go a long way AND when the orange empty'ish light comes on there's AL:WAYS ( touch wood ) about 70 miles left in the tank. 3. I haven't yet heard back from my chap. I'll call him over the next day or two. I doubt the throttle body is the issue in my instance though. He cleaned it out ok last year, it needed it, BUT that didn't resolve the problem ! Malc
  4. ........ watch their faces as 25000 LOC members flock to see the car then !!! hehehehehe Malc
  5. Is there really any comparison worth considering ? WE all know the answer to whether or not we would drive any car other than our Ls400s, 430, 460s. Whatever the comparative costs etc. Malc
  6. Thanks for the USA post ......... I've referred it to my chap. Malc
  7. I don't think I've ever seen one, ever ! Ls600 that is Malc
  8. Hey, I have a very similar issue with mine too ..... when I'm motoring and the fault happens, I just zap it into neutral and then re-start the ignition ..... at whatever speed, it seems to work ok then .......... until the next time. No rhyme nor reason to it and sometimes it is just absolutely fine....... with no issue for weeks/months on end I have, just yesterday emailed my indie mechanic chap for an explanation and for him to ponder the big Q. When I get a response I will let you know. He has been aware of this issue for ages but didn't have a clue !!! He initially cleaned out the throttle body but that hasn't seemed to resolve I have thought maybe it's an Oxygen sensor. Malc
  9. My M reg 1994 Mk2 radio didn't have a security code set ........... not sure they are set as a norm ! Malc
  10. When my alternator went kaput ( my Mk1 J reg ) theses things happened ( PAS pump oil had dripped for ever onto the alternator and scuppered it eventually ) and I was recovered from the M2............. years ago now but I remember it. Or maybe the battery is time expired ................... have the cells checked out if you can. Otherwise I'm sure someone on here will be able to advise. Malc
  11. I have had the same problem too, just don't try to re-start so soon after, It doesn't seem to help to try to de-flood the Lexus, unlike many other cars where that trick often works. Just a nuance of my Lexus ........ well yours too I guess. I just live with it and try to simply avoid putting the car in that embarrassing situation ... I'm sure it realises deep down it's misbehaving !!! like an errant two year old Malc
  12. " man up " ....... the Mk3 is a great car, the battery/alternator is a minor issue and easily resolvable at minimum cost ...... the Ls430 by comparison just might be your nemesis, a moneypit ! 142k mils on a Mk3 is like 25% of it's drivetrain life Malc
  13. What a learning curve for me ............ now I'm in my dotage I guess i'm better than I was all those years ago ....... hopes ! Malc
  14. ah right, long time ago now for me ..... maybe I'm thinking that the steering wheel didn't retract with removal of the ignition key. NOW, I know that didn't happen on my Mk1 ...... or did it !!!! ah ha !!!!! ignorance was ...... " bliss " :outforcount: ( or was it ! ) Malc
  15. ah ha !!!!! my ignorance was ................... " bliss " :outforcount: Malc
  16. Looks pretty ordinary, cared for car. The key to it's value will be in the 24 Full Lexus service history stamps and the cam belt having been changed at 20 years / 120k miles or thereabouts I surmise !!! More info needed BUT if i was in the market for a second one ( if only my g/f would have one too, I wish ) I would seriously consider buying it. Malc
  17. upper case P registered with me that it wouldn't be in a tin !! Malc
  18. Adam, your Ls400 has a stainless steel exhaust system right through APART from that damn Y piece ! You don't, won't EVER need a new system..... unlike the Ls430s :outforcount: Malc
  19. OMG .. it was a part of the annual MOT and service ( oil change ) and checks ......... and by my calculation I paid an extra 30 squid for the Y piece to be sorted ..... dare say he had a few cuppas at my expense too ........... pales into insignificance really with the Xmas pressie I give him every year ( a 20 pack of beer ! ) ..... he's good, quality at £30 an hour, no vat, t/o too low ) Does anyone else give their indie a Xmas pressie ? or is this part of my inane marketing upbringing I wonder ! Malc
  20. ermmm ........... I did report on here that my Y piece cost @£30 ( my UK mechanic guy ) to be welded up and it's like new toooooooooo Malc
  21. And i did read somewhere......... ages ago now, that the " break/ destruction " point for the belt is actually 150k miles. Such is the build quality of these cars and components. Malc
