  5. I would get one of those mobile repair businesses to come and see and quote. It just might pop back out and then be invisibly paint repaired ! Malc
  6. Looks a really nice car, much prefer original wheels tho' and someone's put reversing sensors in the bumper ..... but looks a nice regular well looked after car. Well done, Could last you for ever and probably will never be worth less than whatever you paid if you keep it looking that good ! Malc
  7. I use Falkens ....... said to be made by Dunlop as a direct substitute for the now ceased DZ8 type. They seem ok thus far. ..... about £100 a corner " all up " ... Malc
  8. Guess you're checking the oil on level ground standing and when the engine is cold and all oil has dropped through the system. Then if there is no evident oil leakage and it doesn't burn any then it's being used as one might expect from a 22 year old car. Is the halfway between the two marks on the dipstick equivalent to just a half litre maybe ! Malc
  9. personally, sounds a bit like me ........... how old is the car ? Malc
  10. Bit of an odd ball I know, but Apprenticeships can be for any start age................... local discussions in Kent ........ a local Marine Engineering works is having trouble finding someone to train as a Shipwright and marine engineer. Just a thought. I do voluntary stuff for the FSB ( local Chair ) and a local harbour trust. .... and picked up the latter at Excel Boat Show the other week. Not sure what opportunities there might be in this frame for you locally if you had that interest. Malc
  11. well, use it or lose it i guess OR maybe use it more and stop these issues .... maybe just alternate your car use into Brighton maybe ........ or sell the smart car and just use the amazing Lexus ............... they thrive on being used Malc
  12. Why not use it every day ??? Amazing motoring .............. and might stop these issues for you. Malc
  13. Good result for you ....................... Malc
  14. I understand that the " new " BP logo ( yes, you wouldn't know the difference from the old, the curvature is miniscually different ) cost lots of £mns to arrive at thru' consultants !!! Malc
  15. I've just got a quote from gsi-insurance 01227 772775 which is @50% of that which my last insurers SAGA ( rip off merchants ) quote. Malc
  16. I surmise that if the oil colour looks good and the gearbox performs well then it's best to just leave well alone ! That's pretty conclusive to me. Malc
  17. Dale hi, thanks for that. I doubt it is the ECU though ......... when I bought my car off ACLex the LOC Parts guy at Lexus Poole, the car had FULL Lexus service history ................. I doubt very much that it would have missed the re-call. If the ICAV cleaning doesn't solve the issue then I'm hoping my guy will figure out the solution ( somehow ) :luck: Thanks Malc
  18. Thank you Steve, I'll get my guy to look at this. Malc
  19. Update from me: phoned my guy yesterday and he has been so incredibly busy since b4 Xmas that he hasn't yet had the time to think about it ............ he will, it's just time ! Malc
  20. wow, brilliant result and so inexpensive, well done. A great result. Malc
  21. It's so very easy to spend far more on a car than it's really worth in the open market ! But the cost of maintenance often does this in itself ................. and therefore it's usually better to find a car where that cost has already been absorbed by someone else. Heaven forbid that you should have a nasty ( or even a very minor ) collision or otherwise insurance claim, which would be a write-off for the car and I would guess a pay-out in the high £'00s alone, Provided you're happy with this potential then go4it, it's ever so nice driving a good looking and robust Mk3 that's 18 old and that will probably last you for many years to come and give you superb, reliable, safe motoring. Malc ( I bought mine in June 2011 for £1400 with 126000 miles and full Lexus service history, recent cambelt change etc ) and in superb nick )
