  1. works out at £2.42 per annum then ! not bad really Malc
  2. Really don't understand why Lexus dumbed down and made these pipes of steel ( that often prematurely rust through ) Malc
  3. I know a guy in Ramsgate who is pretty good at paintwork, especially if it's just the lacquer lifting ! The lacquer on these is usually good, in fact never seen one that's not. Might have been an earlier paintjob that's not lasted and maybe there's a simple cost effective solution if you decide to hang on to her. Malc Let me know if you wanted his number.
  4. so tell us more about your existing Mk3 and piccys would be great !! We love to hear about this stuff. Malc
  5. I doubt there is actually anything wrong with your fuel consumption with your car. Averaging 25mph on a longish stop start run in any 4 ltr limo is good ! The best I ever managed was just about 30mpg ( on each of my Mk1, 2 and now Mk3 ) when running at 80mph on cruise and fully loaded. I found the car actually performs better fuelwise when it is fully occupied with passengers and loaded up. Foot lightness control with the accelerator is also a major influence too . I may be wrong of course, but have used my Ls400s as daily transport for 12+ years now and think 25mpg ain't at all bad Malc
  6. Is it just the length in front of the radiator that's the issue ? Mine leaked from just above that, up in the bulkhead area and was replaced with flexi hoses of the appropriate quality. might be worth doing all those pipes ...... just in case. there's a diagram that Steve provided ( i think ) on my earlier post, summat like " Catastrophic loss of power steering fluid " quite recently. It might help. Malc
  7. It might well be that Lexus dealers have just never been asked to change the gearbox oil. The age at which it might need changing, at mega miles, just takes away the likelihood of a Lexus dealer doing the servicing. Most owners by that time have an indy doing their maintenance and servicing and it's quite likely that an indy would just advise against a complete change. Malc
  8. Welcome Allan, what's your present car ? ............. nothing will compare to the sublime driving experience of a Ls Malc
  9. Best of luck with it all ....... maybe the Premium Bonds will " come up " for you in the meantime !! Malc
  10. Do it CotswoldPete, it's brilliant in the Lexus .. remember I had 5 weeks in March/April doing 6060 miles thru France to Spain and Portugal and back .......... BRILLIANT .......... just go do it .......... spend your money, if you don't someone else will when you're gone !!! And all I used was a paper European atlas from 1995 ! absolutely brilliant letting the car take the initiative on where to go Malc
  11. Pilkington Glass is good ... look up on the web pilkington automotive glass, they do classic special glass, all stuff up to 1950's, even for Lamborghini and rare Jaguars too ............. they can impress the Triplex logo or whatever brand the original glass had ( they own the marques i guess ). I visited the factory the other day on the hunt for summat, very impressed, thousands of moulds for all ages, quite incredible what they do there ( in Queenborough Kent ) where I live too !! Malc
  12. Ls600s can be relatively inexpensive to buy now too !!! Seen a few advertised, mega high mileage tho' but with full Lexus service history, for £13k or so ............ be less at trade prices. That's possibly going to be my end game when mine finally goes kaput ............... in about 20 years time Malc
  13. Probably, if it's not right then they will just have to do the job till it is right ! You're in the capable hands of your insurer no doubt too................ Malc
  14. Hi guys, a post I put up earlier on the Engine Transmission section. Malc " I'd be amazed if it isn't simply 10 years / 100,000 miles ....... and take a miniscule chance on it all going pear shaped if you don't strictly adhere to these parameters Reading other posts about the earlier Mk 1, 2 and 3 Ls400s where 63k is the stipulated figure ( apart from in the USA where it's 100k ( now ain't that dopey ) ) ................ I would feel comfortable with those Mks being left to 100k too .... as is the stipulated figure for the Mk4 Ls400 . Malc "

  16. With a full Lexus service history, especially at them same dealer, you should be able to get hold of the FULL Lexus printout of work and servicing carried out since new ........ including I would have thought, the bills ! Malc
  17. welcome back ....... just a short time then before you re-join with another Lexus .......... even if it's not this specific one Malc
  18. wow, guess I missed out earlier when you told us more about your car, like mileage, service history etc. I'm not looking to see my waterpump renewed ( its first change ) until the next cambelt change @180 - 200k miles and then I would expect my engineer to let me know if he thinks the idlers etc really need changing when he's got it all to pieces. Just my thoughts. And at that mileage I'll probably have the HT leads changed too ... I read ages ago now, that 180k miles is about right for them to be changed . Malc
  19. Welcome GBneil to this illustrious forum .......... I recently ( March/April ) did 5 weeks touring Spain and Portugal ........ . 6060 miles door to door from Kent ..... and as expected, had a thoroughly trouble free drive ...... apart from the police checks !!! Malc
  20. The later Ls400 cambelt changes are at @100k miles, that's not bad and I did read a while ago that on earlier Ls400s the cambelt wear destruction point emerges at @ 150k miles. that's got to be better than any goddam chain I bet :outforcount: Malc
  21. Possibly learned thoughts are confounded by the car being LPG'd !!! Just a mystery, and not a single one knows the likely answer Malc
  22. When I had the dashlights sorted on my 94 Ls400 there was a thought that I might lose the radio BUT was assured that it was quite unlikely that the code had ever been set from the outset. As proved to be the case. Malc
