  1. And if the DHP 17" tyres are £200 a pop then ....... OUCH My 16" Falkens are @£100 a corner all-up. Malc
  2. I'm under the impression it is likely 100k miles / 10 years on whichever model. UK says 63k miles / 10 years for exactly the same early year cars as US which says 100k miles / 10 years. Dopey ain't it . ..... I'm personally going with 100k miles /10 years Malc
  3. I'm thinking along the same lines as you when my Ls400 expires ( if ever ) .............. a simple !!! Ls600 with mega miles and FLSH at about £12k might be an answer ........... new cost @ £110k now Hybrid Battery life has been covered on here recently ........ . 8 yrs maybe BUT possibly replace piecemeal and then maybe go on for ages Let us know how you get on Malc
  4. Never seen rust unless it's an old repair seeping thru maybe. The bonnet struts you might get refurbished or replaced thru SGS ( website somewhere ) .... take care how you send your old one's there though, maybe the new post office reduced cost parcel post might be ok !!! Malc
  5. love driving it, nippy 1600 engine, very light car, light manual box too ...... light on steering i guess coz it's got skinny tyres and doesn't stick much to the ground maybe Malc
  6. My g/fs 1994 Mazda 323f is good too, but a fairly low mileage at 131k Seen a good few older Mazdas about, Malc
  7. I used to get this phenomenon too on this Mk3, ages ago now. It's not done it for ages, my indy told me it was the ignition barrel and I think someone on here said that too at the time. My indy said the only solution was to change the barrel if it progressed......... he had had the same problem on a VW of some sort too. So i haven't and, touch wood, it won't need to as the problem seems to have self cured Malc
  8. When i was driving on the continent a few months ago the petrol was often with " E " and it didn't seem to make any difference performance wise ........ wouldn't know about consumption tho' Malc
  9. My Mk3, if i leave the car unattended ( ignition keys in my pocket ! ) for very long ( maybe a minute or two, not sure on this ) with the windows either open or closed, the car does indeed self lock. Malc
  10. Let me see if i can get there, what time do you think ?? Malc
  11. I was in Faversham the other week and a guy just strolled up to me to look at lexii. he had seen an older one around the corner and chatted to the owner who extolled the virtues saying " what would he replace it with " if he sold it ! Nowt. This guy asked me if i would sell mine to him and after much pressure said simply NO, and again, " what would I replace it with ". I told him to look at LOC here and see what might be for sale ......... is he reading this I wonder !! I just wouldn't know what to replace mine with voluntarily ....... no amount of money ( hahahaha ) would entice me to sell. Why would I ? Malc
  12. And sadly the insurers will take very little notice of the mileage with such an age car when it comes to prang / write-off time !! Personal bitter and battling experience, but hey, it enabled me to get the one I have now ok. Malc
  13. A 15 year old car, well, possibly £2500 !! Auction price ............. maybe a bit less........ £1500 Malc
  14. Undoubtedly you will be able to afford a Ls600 in a couple of years time ..... and in the meantime you will enjoy another couple of years of just about trouble free, inexpensive, depreciation free luxury motoring !!! Malc
  15. and hopefully ( fingers xd ) there will be no other major expense during the next few years. Malc
  16. Like the guy did on that other post just here now ...... the one being sold at auction ! Malc
  17. Ruud, I think you're right. When I bought my Mk3 from ACLex on here ( 3yrs ago now ) I had the option of buying it with all of his excellent DHP changes, wheels, tyres, suspension, white lenses etc BUT he also offered me the option to take it back to it's ( then ) excellent ) original condition ........ which latter option I chose. Malc
  18. and on this specific one; £500 tyres, £250 wheel refurb, £500 cambelt etc change, £250 general service + new MOT........... tele steering prob say £250 min. and then the rest of the issues !!!!! You will easily eat up £2k. It's possibly worth £1500 from the auction No other dealer / trader will be wanting it methinks. If you really want this one and it doesn't sell at auction then the trader WILL want rid and be happy I would think to sell it to you afterwards. Malc
  19. there's a good reason why it's in the auction ............... maybe someone's problem child !! Who's putting it in would be a useful pointer, if it's a dealer/trader then the car's maybe a " dog " and uneconomic to sort out. If it's a decd estate then maybe that's ok, BUT the prices needs to reflect at least £2k for the new owner to put into it, assuming that the air suspension is all ok and doesn't require sorting Malc
  20. Blimey, I had an Austin Westminster 3ltr for a few months back in the early 80's ..... it died on the M4 loaded up with the family going on holiday to Wales, got RAC trailered home and set off again in our Vauxhall 2300 VX estate Malc sorry , reminiscing . comes with old age I'm afraid
