  1. hahahahahaha ................ if it was at a Lexus main stealer it would doubtless be about £12k :arrrggg-matey: Looks brilliant, but then with a good polish-up, many do .............. even mine looked the dogs bollocks a few weeks ago when I had it fully valeted ........ oh that goddam weather since eh ! Malc
  2. Moriwaki ..... I know how you felt with the complete satisfaction with your Mk3 ........ that's why I was happy to grand tour thru' France and round Spain and Portugal, 6000 miles in mine this last spring. Malc
  3. The 1989 Press Release topic recently threw up some insight into the quality of the cam belt ........................... aramid fibre construction .......... effectively Kevlar ! Malc
  4. Well, I guess the real problem is having GPS then ........... if I continue not to have it then all will be well. My satnav is either the g/f, which is quite challenging at times, or her TomTom or maybe just chill out, take life easy and ( like I did in Spain and Portugal on holiday ) just go where the car decides to take me ........................ .... with the occasional help of paper maps Malc
  5. Nail in the coffin for me getting a 460 then ............ keeping my Ls400 absolutely forever now ( fingers xd ) why oh why do they make life so abysmally difficult for us poor Ls owners ( rhetorical Q no doubt ) Malc
  6. good lord ......... what a palarva ................. what if you irreparably damage only one tyre and replace just that one ? Malc
  7. how on earth can new tyres create the problem .......... pray tell ! Malc
  8. well well well, .... this was aN annoying problem too on my Mk3 a couple of years back .... scared me rigid at the time but as you say, stop the car somewhere safe, turn it all of and BINGO ..... it all starts up again ok and lasts until .... well, the next time. It hasn't happened to me for absolutely ages now but when it does I know the simple solution. My indy reckoned it was probably the ignition barrel too and if it happens again I might get him to sort out the problem. It's not just Ls400s, it happens to VWs too he tells me. Maybe it's just age related and not using the car enough .............. maybe the Ls is telling us not to take it's apparent brilliantness for granted eh ! Malc
  9. I guess for us " normal " ( hahahahahaha ) souls, the quality of the sound coming from the Ls400 tapedeck is simply marvellous Malc
  10. I think the beauty of " real " classics is the simple technology they have. Even the earliest Ls400 / Celsior is electronically complex by classic car standards. It's not difficult to get classic spares for most cars, even if they are bespoke manufactured somewhere. And the electronic technology is often just a screwdriver, hammer, points, plugs and HT leads. Malc ps my 1932 Triumph is such a creature and after 84 years bits are available from somewhere or if really desperate can be made-up to fit.
  11. they are easy to find from Japan, the art is to have someone on the ground inspecting the car you want and making sure it's not been radioactivised at all !!! Malc
  12. Are these the guys who said they were importing one at £11500 ................. guess so, besides the new buyer having to be able to read Japanese ............ their brains are in a timewarp too I guess Totally bonkers ! Strange how it has the Mk1 style gear selector but no front fog lamps individually, bit like the UK Mk3. ............... wonder if it has air suspension too. A rare car of course BUT would any numpty pay £12.5k for it. Malc
  13. Question: has the Mk3 got the front spoiler missing too ? are Hankok tyres the good ones or the rubbish ones ? Is the Mk4 really British Racing Green ? in olden times I remember it being a very different shade to that, you know BRG on racing cars, MGs, jags, minis and the like .......... chasing around Brands Hatch in clubmans races Malc
  14. you must be joking, seriously tho' the police just not really at all interested in solving car crime .......... s'pose there's more important crime to prioritise eh ! they said " well, it's insured " ... and the insurers weren't interested in solving the crime either ! Guess that's one reason car insurance premiums are so high ........ no one ( except me ? ) can be bothered with solving insured crime. Yes, I would have slammed the sods in prison and sold their assets to cover all the costs and losses. Malc
  15. when I bought my Mk2 1994 M reg one in Dec 2007 ( 13 years young ) ( Xmas pressie to myself :hohoho: ) it only had 8542 miles as you may remember in 2011 it was vandalised to write-off. Malc
  16. Changing Ls400 spark plugs every 60k miles isn't really an exceptional cost of running is it !!! ...... surely Malc
  17. I'm trying to think hard of absolutely anything that goes wrong on an Ls400 that costs a lot to put right ! The upper control arms are the biggest bugger but that's after nigh on 200k miles tho. ............... nothing else is there guys ?? Malc
  18. I thought at one time Lexus main dealer servicing was recorded and kept at the Centre and available for all main dealers to obtain. Malc
  19. The Ls400 coz of it's propensity not to cost you the earth in on-going maintenance costs......... simple Malc
  20. i would imagine the price differential might be due to the likely need or other to replace just the belt itself and / or other parts thereat ! Malc
  21. An excellent result .... oh that we should all be so lucky as you when it comes to our finding replacements........ she does look very smart and an absolute bargain Best wishes Malc
  22. looks great, gold front badge too ..... poser ....... seriously, she looks really smart. Don't forget the cambelt might be made of aramid fibre and last forever !!! ............. if the last one changed was a Lexus belt or indeed if it's original. Good luck with it, well done .............. price paid and the niggles ? ( I'm just super nosey ) Malc
  23. But you would surely have had some inkling of near potential failure at the last MOT with a simple Advisory if it is to be the Upper Control Arms ..... and about £350 a side maybe plus labour which I understand is actually quite a short timeframe job in itself. I would have thought a minimum of @200k miles life in a normal non rough track road environment tbh. Mine on my Mk1 ( years ago now ) I replaced at about 165k miles BUT I was chasing the car up and down the rough unmade track ( 0.25 mile) to my then home for some years. Malc
