  1. A local car dealer might be able to arrange for you to have the car on his trade plates for the time .... and then be at least Road Traffic Act insured Malc
  2. Stuart hi, your Raybestos UCAs seem to come with a 3 year warranty so you should be ok ! 113k is a tiny mileage for original one's tbh ........... are they just Advisory ( where they might last a few more years actually ) before becoming an urgent " to do " Advisory ? Much Advisory stuff with MOTs is down to the individual tester and another might say they are all ok, just keep an eye on them ! Malc
  3. ........ I think you will maybe find much forum discussion on the Upper Control Arms scenarios to give you whatever guidance you want to seek and accept. Good luck with what you have now bought, they may be superdooper and we can all go your way in time when heaven forbid we need to replace them. Malc
  4. .. take care with the Upper Control Arms .......... experience shows that ONLY Lexus OEM survives more than a year or so .................... and they last for maybe 200k miles or so Malc
  5. ... use your usual local guy, he's bound to know what to do ok and save you a lot with peace of mind too :luck: Malc
  6. oh my, what's happening to your Mk3 ?? Malc
  7. ..... Stuart hi, I've probably driven around 200k in my Ls 400s over the years and haven't ever concerned myself that the gearbox fluids are other than ok ! That's why I take it to my indy to service once a year with the MOT and just about get superb and trouble free motoring ( don't much like visiting the tyre sales place tho', it's ALWAYS expensive it seems ) Malc
  8. ......... my indy just always checks this fluid level and quality ( by sight and smell ) at every service and has done this for each of my Ls400's over the years. Never had to top-up or replace at any time to my knowledge. If you're unsure then just let your servicing guy take the strain, he probably wouldn't even charge for a 10 second job ( checking that is ) Malc
  9. ..... on the Mk3's ( maybe the others too ) the power steering cooling pipes that run across the front of the radiator and up into the abyss where the pwr strng box is, usually rots out after about 18 / 19 years too. This is an easy fix ( if you know how !!! ) and relatively inexpensive if you use a length of plumbers copper tube and don't try to replicate the mild steel configuration of the original pipework and just settle for the appropriate quality flexi pipe replacement. Malc
  10. ........ don't forget that I mentioned one could still possibly just stick the new number plate over the existing ....... might save a shed load of trouble tbh Malc
  11. .................. it's only cheap if the fix is simple ....... if it's not then the car is probably a scrapper and then weigh it in I guess Malc ( I'll wash my mouth out with soap and water )
  12. ........... a much depleted bank balance maybe ! .... oh, and a newer car I guess. Malc
  13. sad for a 15 year old Ls430 ......... maybe it's a simple fix tbh, bit like the gearbox oil mixing with the radiator water, that internal pipework having gone KAPUT ..... maybe a simple enough fix at just a few £00's but hey, what would I know !! And I sure won't be taking a punt on it Malc bet lexus chap might tho what with all that Lexus service history etc etc etc and then up for £3500 no doubt
  14. Paul, we mentioned this one before and I'm the guy who wrore asking to take it on a trip for him this March when I'm thinking of doing Route 66 ( in his car ). Sadly no answer tho' Malc
  15. welcome to the joy of blissful motoring ................. you won't need the travelling tool kit at all ........... ever Malc
  16. Chris, quite frankly it's totally bonkers not to drive a Ls400 until the very last day you can get behind the wheel. These cars are just fabulous and so so easy to drive and park and the comfort level is unsurpassable. For an ordinary mortal without the wherewithal for a RR ( and the deep pockets for repairs etc )..... the Ls400 must be the answer. Malc
  17. ............looks and sounds brilliant ........... I would probably buy this one if I was in the market for one Malc
  18. ................. and it might miraculously have a superb Full Lexus Service History with 3 cambelt changes etc etc etc Malc
  19. when my Mk2 numberplate was changed from ......... BCA 3 .............. the replacement plates were simply stick-on ...... straight over the existing Absolutely fine too Malc
  20. ..... there are a few collectors of cars out there that really really don't want to actually sell ................ Malc
  21. hahahahaha ......... probably from your Celsior with totally non UK style lamps !!! I can only tell from the separate foglights which aren't present on the UK Mk3 Do tell ! Malc
  22. wow, so tell us more about your rare Mk1 please ............ and some photos too Thanks Malc
  23. Fine looking car BUT it's not really going to be useable is it ??? Unless you want to get a speck of dust over it and not get any pleasure from driving ........ just my simple view. My 1995 car is in pretty good nick at 166k miles and mountains of Lexus history too ........ difference is I use my car ( lots ) and don't mind it being worth just about bugger all tbh Malc
