  1. good looking aspen green Mk3 then ......... when I bought mine with Full Lexus Service History ( not like this one with Toyota SH ) 4 years ago now with @ 123k miles and at £1400, I thought I had a pretty good deal. ...............how these have appreciated methinks. Malc
  2. Stuart, I just left it all to my mechanic to do...... I just pay his very satisfactory bill Malc
  3. . I'm impressed the way the sun even shines in your boot to grace the toolkit Malc
  4. .... not as choked as mine at the last service after 15k miles and touring europe ! Malc
  5. Stuart, didn't go the Lexus OEM parts route . just redid with flexi hoses and clips, sooooo much easier than frigging around with that convoluted mild steel abomination Malc
  6. . fairly straightforward I'm told by my indy who did it ....... the OEM replacement mild steel configuration was about a £1mn from Lexus .... flexi hoses and clips did the trick !!! Malc
  7. Phil, no I meant ALL the pipework from the pas reservoir, it was that which corroded through, the front cooler pipe, as it happens, was just about OK !! But it all got replaced. Malc
  8. ... the pas reservoir pipes corrode out and can cause catastrophic loss of pas fluid. I mentioned this before somewhere when mine did just that mid last year. One of the few bits of mild steel gubbins on the car and mine only lasted 19 years ! Malc
  9. ......... hahahaha ................. was thinking how to install my HMV wind up record player in place of the tape deck .................. ( sorry, makes as much sense to me ) Malc
  10. I always top-up to the brim ............... reduces the waste of life, time, spent at petrol pumps ! btw my local Asda is 113.7p / ltr today
  11. ... I read at 85.1 litres .............. plus fumes Malc
  12. ... guys, when my one side only front UCA had to be replaced for this last MOT ( at 174k miles ) the whole looked in pristine condition and on the face of it looked, ostensibly, like " new " However, the functionality of the innards had lessened effectiveness under pressure and was a " fail " Had I seen a pair like my dead one for sale, looking in great condition, I'd have probably bought them .... so the moral of the story is ........ if it looks crap and worn then it probably is kaput, if it looks like newish but with 174k miles on it then it too might well be kaput. Seeing is not always believing ! Malc
  13. .............. talk to her nicely, often gets her round to behaving properly :hocus-pokus: Malc
  14. interesting chatting with my new business partner in Delhi and they use CNG gas there too ........... Malc
  15. hahahahaha ............... the original belts in the early Mks were made of, effectively, kevlar ....... and this is just about indestructible, they make bomb proof bins etc from it ! I have tried to get from Lexus the make-up of more recent cambelt materials but haven't been able to elucidate a sensible reply. If your last cambelt was OEM then you're probably ok for a while yet. Regarding servicing and all things Lexus, my local indy guy has been looking after my cars very effectively and economically for approaching 8 years ( Mk1, Mk2 and now my Mk3 cars ) and he does what he does very well indeed. What did let me down quite catastrophically was the front cooler pipes for the pas fluid, these rot out about now but mine also rotted out the steel complex pipework up into the pas pump area too ....... Lexus bits would have been prohibitevily expensive, repair effected by copper tubing ( no pressure ) and flexi hoses and clips .......... . but get it done, it's a cheap fix and will save a huge amount of grief. This is an achillies heel of the Mk3 Malc
  16. ............. seems as if you have a good buy there, the simple fixes above might well be all you need then if it still does 1800 for a very short while then drops to 1100 then idles at 500 or so then there's nowt to worry about really. The cambelt will probably be ok until you can get around to changing it, be a pity to leave it too long even though it will likely last till 165k at least .......... fingers xd, and don't blame me if it just goes pop ........ I don't think they ever do Malc
  17. ...... 15 / 16 around town, slow, stop start etc ...... that's all any of the rest of us get probably ............... what other car anywhere in the world ever that's a 4ltr limo that weighs a ton or so achieve much better consumption ! The Lexus bill for diagnostics, well, you might want to save that cost and put in a little more ( or a lot more ) fuel Malc
  18. .................... EGR pipe, remember reading on here that sans this EGR pipe the car works just as well ...... maybe ask Steve2006 on here who's celsior is maybe manufactured sans EGR pipe at the start of life ! Malc
  19. .... why not just go for a simple OEM Toyota / Lexus battery ..... when I replaced mine with OEM ( coffee and biscuits included ) it really wasn't any more expensive then any other make ! Malc
  20. ........ you will have inner peace if you use your car everyday, it's a wonderfully therapeutic environment to spend at least a part of every day of your life Malc
  21. didn't know the Ls400 had a " premium pack " ever .... wonder what it was .... maybe the price reflects it, solid gold bodywork perhaps ! Malc
  22. ........... probably not, my third Ls400 now and 14 years in the driving .... Mk1, Mk2 and now my Mk3 Malc
  23. ................ heavens above, a Rover P4 ........... sold a really nice one in my car sales business a few years ago, a beauty with little flags embellished on the front wings, it was an ex diplomat car ... very fine cars BUT why on earth would you want those doors opening from the central column and the stcky-out semaphore signals ...... and the aluminium corrosion ( were they ally bodies ? I can't remember now ) but wonderful patina leather upholstery, reminded me of All Creatures Great and Small ................ and the greatness of the Ls400 that I had at that time, my first a 1992 Mk1 btw my third car is a 1932 Triumph Southern Cross Sports Tourer !
