  1. hahahahaha .............. I just read the advert ....... . it actually says resprayed bonnet, boot, roof etc !! And if I was you I would probably just patch your own front wing tbh unless you can get an original same colour replacement and not have to repaint. It's the quality of the Lexus factory finish that gives our cars such an amazing longevity paint and colourwise. Malc
  2. Is this an easy conversion, and what does it cost? Hugh, the coilovers were on the car when I bought it. In fact, they were the reason I bought it. http://www.strutmasters.com/products/2000-2006-lexus-ls430-4-wheel-air-suspension-conversion-kit-td14f/ In my quest for more service history I have not received a response from the company that owned the car when the work was done so I cannot tell you how much the import & fitting costs were. ....... Malc, for at least the second time: ls430 rear boxes are NOT mild steel. Would it be too much trouble for you to ask an owner of one if he/she would flip it onto its roof for you to inspect? Stuart hi, I'm very pleased they're not mild steel. I thought earlier posts about this issue have been aired and those owners were saddened that there own Ls430's were so and causing them replacement concerns. However I haven't seen a Ls430 upside down and hope I never shall ................ it would sadden me Malc
  3. It's most certainly a Mk3, easy to tell by the lack of fog lights at the front, they're encompassed within the main lighting cluster on this Mk. This car's a real " no no " methinks. there are some faults but the biggest bugbear could be the non-original paint work on most of the car. Unless it has been resprayed to exacting Lexus ( or better ) standards then it's not going to last the course !! And the price, it's possibly a bit " dopey " !! Malc
  4. ... but it does just go to show how minor the Lexus issues are compared to German !! ....... long live the Ls400 Malc
  5. .......... little point my buying a Ls430 to spend the coilover conversion costs, gearbox/radiator changes, steering column fixes, delaminated window fixes and mild steel back boxes fix ........... when one day my car just expires then I guess will be the time to make the change .............. after all, I do still have my torch in the toolkit ! ...................... probably about 25 years time I guess
  6. ............ there are some Ls600 owner reviews of their issues on here and quite frankly they seem to put me off getting one !! I pay for my own repairs etc. A new Ls600 is really out of the question but a reasonably good and priced used car could be on the cards BUT I just don't think I would get the absolute peace of mind that I get with running my tried and tested steed. One day no doubt I shall have to move into another Ls I guess but the air suspension woes just simply put me off .................. just trying to think why I would want to change from my 1995 Mk3. No rational answer ever seems to spring to mind Malc
  7. ............ not ugly at all ........ I think the originals are rather smart ........ I had mine changed back to original from DHP style clear lenses coz to my mind originality in the Mk3 is GREAT ...... as did Lexus when they spent £zillions developing the Mk3 Malc
  8. Stuart. just noticing your avatar .... I recently checked my toolkit and woweeee, it too has the torch ( and everything else ) and it WORKS ! can't imagine it's other than a 20 year old battery in it Malc
  9. Hi guys, did anybody from LOC buy this car from the Tooting garage ? I called again in the afternoon about it and the garage confirmed it was being collected the following morning and I was first on the list of 4 potential buyers if the deal fell through Malc
  10. This is surely an impressive car and amazing longevity clearly evidenced with this. hahahahaha ............... Matt, I think this is the guy who couldn't be bothered to acknowledge my emails etc offering to take this specific car on a month's tour across the USA to add maybe 10k miles to it !!!! Malc
  11. .................. if it's a bulb the likely culprit would be the offside rear brake light ...... these only seem to last about 18 years before they fail ........ a common fault Malc
  12. ..........and there's me phoning the garage to buy it today at noon and the guy tells me he's verbally sold it just 5 mins prior ...... but he's got my number just in case !! Came as a p/ex and everything works, all the lights, dials, etc ..................... but he doesn't know off hand about the cambelt change without hunting thru the paperwork . but hey, someone thought the same as me I guess So which of you on here is it that's bought it ??? malc
  13. OMG ....... I must rush out and buy one ..... woops, I have one and aren't I soooooo pleased to have discovered these amazing cars 14 years ago and finished up with my Mk3 which looks almost as good as the one in the video .............. ( well, not far off anyway .. or am I kidding myself a little too much at 177k miles ) Brilliant video, thanks for finding it Malc
  14. That's an amazing looking car Steve, surely must be worth all the asking price and possibly more I would say ... looks a very rare beast and clearly had a good home for many many years. If I was to buy it I certainly wouldn't be fazed at putting on a new cambelt and anything else .... it might actually be worth right now about double or more what the garage is asking ! Would be great if a LOC member on here was to snap it up Malc
  15. wow Steve, that price seems a " come and buy me " sort of price, What's the car like really ? Malc ps I might convince my g/f to one day have a Ls400 !!!
  16. ............. the vagaries of youth eh ! referring to an Ls as " him " rather than the usual for us oldies of " she " Malc
  17. ....... new version of this, new version of that ................ I'll wait until they bring out one as reliable and as inexpensive as mine to run and maintain and that won't depreciate at a greater rate than my existing ................... hahahahahahaha,...................... that'll make me at least 279 years old I guess !! :winky: Malc
  18. ......... more tea vicar ? butted in Miss Marple to relieve the tension Malc
  19. .. anyone any ideas / thoughts about refurbishing by black powdercoating professionally ?? look, colour shade, durability etc Malc
