  1. ... italy, Fiat, italy and RUST .. couldn't believe on my earlier trip around Italy this year, ( for those of you interested still ) just remembered I saw, north of lake Garda well rusty road crash barriers, like we all see I guess galvanised ones on motorways and the like, BUT in this part of Italy they were sooooo rusty, clearly never seen galvanising from new. So it wasn't just Fiat that invented rust, it's an Italian phenomenon generally I guess Malc
  2. ... I used to sometime drive a K reg BMW manual 318i coupe when I had my garage business ....... remember it to this day, absolutely brilliant car, drove like a real sports car type, such power and speed ..... then I discovered my Mk1 Ls400 .............. and the start of a " love " story now covering almost 15 years But then in olden days maybe BMWs were rather more reliable than today's models Malc
  3. .. might still reach £4k ............... and it must be good, the torch is still in the tool kit ! Malc
  4. ..... I guess I had best stop contributing then fellas ......... bye I really don't have to put up with Stuart / Loathecliff's pathetic remarks Malc
  5. In my days of car sales etc I know that certain warranty companies desperately try to avoid ( successfully so ) paying out on claims where it might be considered " fair wear and tear " ...... tears for the owners on this one maybe ! ...... with the gearbox failure being related to fair wear and tear ( rust ) on another component. I doubt there's a single issue with a Ls430 that they wouldn't put down to fair wear and tear in view of the ages of these cars .............. but i might be wrong Malc
  6. Maybe just find yourself a good Mk3 again ..... or dare I say it, try to but back your last one ! Malc
  7. I paid not a lot less than this ( and that included vat ) about 2.5 years ago now and the guy said it would probably last 5 years or so ........ and coffee and biscuits too And it of course fits the odd shape Mk3 tray ........... Malc
  8. ... is it Lexuschap then ? ... sounds about right for his modus Malc
  9. .............. and if you need a new battery then OEM Lexus/Toyota is the way to go with the Mk3 Inexpensive, fits exactly and will probably last 5 years ... together with coffee and biscuits if you're lucky ! Malc
  10. ............ none done on my Lexuses at any time but I have had welding done on my Mazda and it's pretty painless and often at a tiny cost really ... depends who you use to do it, like any job on a car, and how extensive the rot is when it's discovered. The problem with rot on many cars ( and I don't mean surface rust ) is that it can often eat into structural, difficult to get to areas that can and often do, make repair just so uneconomic, whatever the car and the life of the drivetrain and interior etc. Malc

  12. .... petrol filling never ceases to amaze me ............. I often think there's an air lock that's sometimes trying to find it's way out somewhere ............ in olden days when I was a petrol pump attendant, when I was really broke and young and a teenager, I found that just putting the nozzle in upside down with the trigger handle bottom facing the pump itself, often improved the flow ........ ( when 5* petrol was 6/8d a gallon )
  13. ... I don't remember my Mk1 door mirrors doing anything bar act as stationery door mirrors ! Malc
  14. blimey, my UCAs on my Mk1 lasted about 160k miles and I've just replaced one now at 174k miles .......... the other side seemed to be ok ( at this time ) but expecting to change it at the next MOT tho Malc
  15. ........... nice car really, shame that the leather seats and steering wheel look as tho they have done a million miles Malc
  16. ..... time to part company with your Ls430 .......... how about buying a good Ls400 in replacement ? Malc
  17. ................. I was under the impression Benfur gave up this breaking Ls400 business a couple of years ago now Malc
  18. ................ I'd have thought USA would be a great way to source this item Malc
  19. I had this too, also the email came with that mention of the Mk2 Ls for sale that we said is a Mk3 . I tried to email them back to advise them of the error but got a reply that said I couldn't contact them that way ... ho hum ...... Cest le Vie Malc
  20. .., wot a dilemma then for you ................ heaven knows ..... can you really not keep both ?? The Mk1 would be better off doing low annual miles I guess and the Mk4 would be more of a daily and journeying car ................ but having said that, the USA car with nigh on a million miles underlines just how both could probably be used for everyday long driving etc ................. If it was me, I would probably keep both tbh ........ but then again I probably wouldn't have put myself in such a difficult ( but nice ) position of having to make such a choice Malc
  21. .... is there any rust appearing underneath the Mk1 yet ? have the UCAs etc been done on the Mk1 ? and when was the cambelt last done on the Mk1 ? These major potential costs will sway you maybe ! Malc
  22. ............. had them on my garage forecourt with electrically operated curtains in them, I guess top of the range Pajeros at the time Malc
  23. I wonder if the curtains are electrically run, like the Pajero from that era ( Mitsubishi ) Malc
