  1. ... hahahahaha, probably from a write-off, the donor car having had a damaged rear bumper and a broken lamp lens ! Malc ................. am I getting too cynical in my dotage ? don't answer, it's a rhetorical Q , I know the answer
  2. ............ wonder who did the MOT on that errant sad car ! hope they bang that guy " up to rights " too ...... but that's as doubtful as this initial prosecution I guess .... so it might happen Malc
  3. I noticed that too, a telling tale that the timing chains really do need replacing at sometime, probably to be safe, 100k mile intervals Wonder how much that would cost ! not as much as the replacement engine whatever Malc
  4. banged up in prison doing hard labour, breaking rocks seems appropriate ! or maybe a slight tap on the knuckles ( is that allowed under EU law, Human rights etc ? ) as the likely alternative if he doesn't pay Malc
  5. £300 not bad for an afternoon's effort but then he's got to deal with all that technology ............. Malc
  6. ..... and unfortunately that probably means that one should steer clear of absolutely each and every car that has ever been bought from this CRIMINAL ROGUE unless the car is shown to be in really good condition now. But how do you know if it's been clocked, ah, I s'pose the DVLA MOT checks on line show up " real " mileage ( I hope ) Malc
  7. .......... just looking at used car prices here, the same mileage and year Ls460 , say 56 plate with 102k miles might be about £8/9k, the comparable Ls430 is about £5 / 6k. The Honda Legend is to cost £4k and does have AWD The Ls460 costs about £76k now, the Legend in 2006 actually cost, with every conceivable extra I'm told @£55k The Ls should be more " silky " to warrant the price differential ............ but is it worth twice the price ..... I wonder ! Malc
  8. .......... I shall rarely drive it ........ I can't see anything ever replacing my Mk3 Ls400 ! But I'll be very interested to try to compare the new Lexus coupe thingy when he gets it. Malc
  9. .................. well done, the power of belonging to this Club eh ! ..... money in the bank Malc
  10. ..... hahahahaha ........ I think I'm about to buy my g/f a 56 plate Honda Legend, 102k miles for maybe £4k to replace her probably terminally rusty Mazda 323f ....... maybe. From my ex bro-in-law who loves the car, had it 4 years or so, but is getting his first and of course new company car maybe July'ish ............ a brand new Lexus coupe thingy Wonder how they will compare, he's had about 4 Legends over the years and each has been brilliant..... and I must admit the cabin space and wizzadry looks amazing in this Legend. Malc
  11. ..... does seem a little odd ... I don't remember my Mk1 ever being very much different to the usual revs indicated with my Mk2 and now my Mk3. Philosophically: If it's driving well and you're otherwise happy then I would take a view and leave the rev counter to re-adjust itself at some time in the future ( if ever )...... at age 25 I don't doubt little idiosyncracies are well deserved ... and expected Malc
  12. I remember buying plastic headlamp covers for my ( brand new ) 1.8 Vauxhall Carlton (1988 ) to protect the glass lenses from stones .... that car did just over 200k miles before it succumbed to inoperable rust Malc
  13. ............ no idea what parts cost unless my indy mechanic buys them, and of course that's quite rare .... on an earlier Ls400 ( my Mk1 I think ) the Upper Control Arms lasted about 160k miles and then cost only £250 each from Lexus.... I then lived a qtr mile up an unmade track and that took its toll on them I'm sure! These cars cost very little to maintain, if a UCA lasts 160/180/245k miles then that's way beyond the life of any other car on the road. Just been looking at Bentleys for sale and I know they cost a fortune to maintain and also that most of them do very little mileage. .. guess the owners are fearsome of maintenance costs We are so lucky to have our Ls400s Malc
  14. .... I understand front upper control arm from lexus, each side is about £500 + labour ( but an easy job ) if it's the first replacement then that's a very good mileage for it Had one of mine replaced at 179k and MOT for £250 or so but NOT OEM Malc
  15. .............. out of interest Nick, what is your mileage at which these issues have arisen ? Thanks Malc
  16. . the simple economic fix is often used by car body shop repairers to make the whole car look shinier after sorting out a repair .... nothing like crisp bright headlamps Prior to the Mk4 they were of course simply old fashioned GLASS Malc
  17. ............ if it's just deterioration in the quality of the lenses then there's a simple and not too expensive fix to get them like new from being opaque with age ! Let us know the issue and we might be able to help a little ! Malc
  18. yes always, but it's becoming rarer by the day that I have the opportunity to Malc
  19. ........... there's no disabling switch to my knowledge ... what i did once was to remove a specific fuse from under the bonnet gubbins ......... that disabled the alarm but also the steering adjustment and something else i think too ............. it was troublesome so I put the fuse back and mostly, ( just mostly ) the alarm doesn't misbehave. When it does it's a right royal pain in the a.se .... even leaving a window slightly ajar and locking the car doesn't stop the alarm doing it's stuff over time. Of course it might just be someone trying to break into your car ! I know of no solution in the 5 years with this otherwise wonderful young lady ( 21 years this year ...... it's a very small price to pay for otherwise brilliant motoring ) Ah, I remember, once in a back street in Spain, I parked up to visit the local sites ( a disused bullring ), the turning was built up both sides and as soon as I walked around the corner I could hear the alarm going off ........ I returned and left the car unlocked ........ I think someone on here told me it might have been someone's wifi affecting the sensitivities of the dear old lady. Malc
  20. probably much rarer than the car Malc
  21. ........... too much fancy stuff to pay for ..... just a quick blast down the motorway should clear out any build- up of carbon crap etc Malc
  22. wow, you're brave buying a car with doubtful paintwork that you're thinking of having professionally sorted ! Would have thought a " whole " car wouldn't cost more than a few £000s to sort out properly ......... my son-in-law is a professional car painter and there really isn't a cheap fix for a proper and legally painted job these days ( all those rules and regulations on types of paint, spray booths and the like ) Good luck with it whatever Malc
  23. strange, the third owner owned it until sometime next year !!! 2017 Malc
  24. .......... big cars ........ have any of you guys been alongside a new shaped mini and felt a little overwhelmed by it's size and presence, intimidating the Lexus Ls400 ! Malc
  25. It looks to be a very expensive Mk3 ................ but a bit odd .............. it ain't got 18" wheels for a start ! they look remarkably standard to me Anything else not quite right I wonder ? Malc
