  1. .... having zero sensors on my Mk3 I manage to judge it " just right " by knowing the final lip on the boot lid positioning when I'm reversing into / close to, whatever. Many years ago I used a very up market ( from my car sales lot ) Mercedes coupe with reversing sensors and managed, when parking, to reverse into a low timber post that missed the positioning of the sensors in the car bumper........ my first and last experience with these goddam sensors Malc
  2. .... just an update on mine since Oct 2013 ............. it's been fine since Malc
  3. ....... paint matching ...... recently I took a chip of my front door paint to Johnstone's for matching .............. I live in a Conservation Area and obliged to repaint the same colour etc. without Planning Permission for a change. It's easy peasy, they have a simple electronic gadget that reads the base colours of the paint in the sample and mix base colours to exact spec. ... that's for wooden front doors though ! Malc
  4. ............ my aspen green is just about an official Lexus silver colour ! Malc
  5. ...... i guess if the car moves when the gearbox is in P when it's parked on a slope then that damages the gearbox ? ! ? ! who knows Malc
  6. .. I'd have thought actually parking ( engine off ) on a 1 in 10 and leaving the gearbox in P mode would have held the car ok ! ... without using the foot brake and foot/handbrake Malc
  7. Been running Ls400s for 15/16 years now and always used indy servicing .............. even though this latest ( 5 years ago now ) came with Full Lexus Service History I wasn't prepared to pay the effective cost price again every 2 or 3 years just to keep that going ............... and she drives as sweet as a nut ............. of course Save the £££££££, put that towards more of life's little pleasures, just as you have now driving your Lexus Malc
  8. . do you have to sell it ........... could you not find someone to just use it for you, like on loan for the period . sort out the financials so you don't lose too much £££££ but in any event keep the car ! Malc
  9. ...... i'M TOLD MY NUTS LOOK GREAT TOO .................
  10. ........... if you're having the car serviced by Lex Tek then maybe they could provide all necessary filters as appropriate ! Malc
  11. ...... on the Ls400s ( I've had 3 now ) I was under the impression that when a bulb has failed, in my case always a rare, rear stop bulb, the warning light shows on the dash ............ or maybe that's just because it's brake ( bulb ) related ? Malc
  12. ..... David, you must be talking about buying a Ls400 then they are usually consumately reliable, cost pennies by comparison and rarely go wrong ...... routine maintenance is a breeze with just the usual ( for any car ) tyres and brakes and oils and filters ... just like any car isn't that why we run them ?? Malc
  13. Many congratulations on a superb buying decision, may you have many years of excellent and trouble free motoring Malc
  14. ...... it's good buying the correct battery from Lexus, the base tray fitting is very slightly different on the Mk3 and most ordinary batteries just don't quite fit in the space properly ! pre-mixed, well there we have it, there's an enormous confusing thread on this alone ...... is it supplied pre, being mixed, or is it really mixed ready to top-up without any further dilution the thread might give you the answer you're looking for or alternatively your indy mechanic probably has a good handle on the reality of it all Malc
  15. ........ hey, the biscuits and excellent service come as normal when you visit the Lexus / Toyota parts desk In Canterbury the Lexus dealership doesn't provide parts/spares but just across and down the road is the Toyota dealership which does just that .... and coffee and biscuits etc Malc And they wouldn't fit my battery for free either, unlike some lucky souls on here ! But I took it to my indy to do as I wasn't happy at just disconnecting in case anything " tripped " or whatever .... it didn't and 5 mins later it was done ..... and free
  16. Welcome Mark .... I would say the cambelts good for 100k miles and 10 years, so maybe out to 2019 and 163k miles on the clock ( same as in the USA but some would say we are very very different in the UK and 7 years and 63k miles but I don't know why !! ). And the plugs usually for 60k miles too Malc just out of interest . how much ££££££
  17. ...... ahah, taking your pension pot, spend it wisely. I took mine last year and didn't buy my new Ls600, nor anything else to change from the best car ever ..... my Mk3 Ls400 ! Malc
  18. ....... and just reading more and more on here about Ls430 wheel bearings .... you never read of those issues on the Ls400 Malc
  19. .......... sorry to hear your news ..... what a shock Similar happened to me in about 1969 ( I was 19 ) with my brand new Hillman Imp, at night driving along, pitch black in the country, a deer jumped over the hedge from a field, kicked my passenger door , jumped over the car then across the road and over the next hedge and off across the field ........ me and the gf ( taking her home after an interesting evening ! ) were totally shocked, huge dent in the door and wondered what on earth had happened ! Never happened since thank heavens Malc
  20. ............... just bizarre the cost of bits and bobs on these ( or most ) cars ! My whole Ls400 cost me just £1400 5 years ago with Full Lexus Service History and 126k miles .............. the value of these cars eh! Malc
  21. ....... ask your local bodyshop repair guys, there's a product they professionally use that's about £22 that does both headlamp settings and more or less lasts forever ( they say ). The repair shop might charge you £80 to do the job using this product ! But I don't know it's name Malc
  22. ... 200k miles might well be just 20% of the car's expected life to be honest about it. Really depends how it's been looked after Malc
  23. mine have never flashed in the 5 years I've owned it ............... maybe mine's just a little special Malc
