  1. ... well I know I'm never going to sell my Ls400 ........ might acquire another tho' on the way to add to my irreverent collection of " odd " cars Malc
  2. I mentioned AWD coz it's referred to in my earlier post on here " AWD Ls460 .... see the legend " Malc
  3. .... my old car sales partner generally used to just flip the headlight bulb bayonet out for a little while, ensure there was a little heat in the area ( hot sunny day helps ) and let the water evaporate naturally ........... then pop the bulb holder back in and job's done. Just make sure you find how water got in there initially and stop that ingress. No need for a new headlamp usually ....... the Mk3 is glass btw Hope that does it for you. Malc
  4. .... certainly a few older ones emerging for sale now, some with sensible prices and others really not ( not yet anyway ). Can't help thinking that 18" wheels/tyres will take away the soft comfy ride usually associated with the Ls400 Malc
  5. ...... prior words of wisdom on this forum suggests that for our aged and miles cars simple semi-synthetic is just about right. It's usually cheaper and fully adequate, I pay about £15 for Wilko 10 / 40 per 5 litres........ I used to use 5 / 30 or whatever but find it makes no difference to the running of the car. Malc
  6. ...... I have to rely on the old fashioned fuel gauge technology on my Mk3 ........ when the orange light comes on I know it's got about 100 miles left in the tank Malc
  7. ......looks brilliant, price looks a little, or a lot on the heavy side. By the way, my keys on my 95 N reg are totally different wonder if there's something strange about the car from standard issue ? Malc
  8. I remember reading on here quite recently someone was buying probably the only AWD Ls460 in the UK Not being able to track down any reference to it in these Forums I thought you might be interested to read what my g/fs Honda Legend SH - AWD is all about. .......................and probably the Ls460 too, but who knows ! It's just AWESOME ...................... I'm hoping it performs the way it looks to do Malc
  9. is it a Toyota Celsior or a Lexus Ls400 .... confusing front badges and those wheel arch trims ! Malc
  10. ....... never noticed it happening on mine over the last 5 years and now at @187k miles wonder if it's something to do with the fog lights being in the same cluster as the headlamp .... did you turn the fog lamps on too ? Malc
  11. thank you, I'll explore that if the " mirror in a can " guy doesn't come back to me Thanks guys Malxc
  12. Just wondering if anyone has explored a cost effective, simple and clear mirror like effective solution to the alternative of a replacement mirror ? I've searched the Lexus forums here and I can't find anything relevant sadly nor does madame google help very much either. However i have emailed a company in Suffolk that seems to have/had a director/inventor that produced " mirror in a can " but await a reply.......... not hopeful tbh BUT maybe you guys have explored this at sometime ? Any thoughts please Thanks Malc
  13. Are any of you finding this an issue at these extreme hot temperatures we are experiencing right now ? For two days running, upon start-up there seems to be a little hesitation and it seems to me that maybe, momentarily ( a moment's short sharp unhappy misfiring like noise ) that stops the old lady from wanting to start easily. It does start of course, immediately after the hesitation, and it's definitely not the starter motor ( I think ) it just seems a little petrol starvation maybe and I'm just wondering if it's super evaporated in the engine management system before it gets to be ignited. Just a hot weather related unusual matter ? Any thoughts please Thanks Malc
  14. ...... so far totally faultless, a joy to drive ( caveats tho', my Ls400 being quicker and faster and more comfy, for me anyway ) ...... only drawbacks ............. it needs washing more often to match the effort of its prior owner and the sodding petrol tank needs filling-up too Malc
  15. ............the 115k miles 1996 car is green, the same as mine in all respects, interior too and the front bumper lower black spoiler having been removed like mine too I wonder if the cambelt has ever been changed ! But I don't have gold badges and mine's done 186k miles Malc
  16. ........ in my circumstances, insuring the Honda Legend, a lower insce. group than the Lexus Ls400, LVE wouldn't even quote ( coz it's a Honda Legend I think ) , whereas Adrian Flux were absolutely fine finding an insurer in their capacity as a Broker. As I say, came up with the best quote in all the circumstances, my having spent a frustratingly inordinate amount of time trawling the market ! Malc
  17. who is LVE ? recently used Adrian Flux and they beat the opposition hands-down on my circumstances Malc
  18. ........... there's threads on here about removing the dreaded EGR pipe with no ill effect ......... it's not installed on many worldwide Ls400s supplied new and indeed Steve 2006 on here might have a useful view too ........... Malc
  19. ... mine is especially sensitive to heat I think. Yesterday afternoon after a good run, got home, parked-up and for about 4 x during the remainder of the day that alarm burst into life, then all settled down, as usual mode for how long ....m well, who knows, it sure has a mind of its own Malc
  20. the terminology sounds a bit odd to me ..... " Tires " ........ .and ........ " new front shocks " .. bit un-Lexus like ! Anybody had the front shocks go on their Ls400 yet ? Malc
  21. ............. and it's a bit of an odd one too with Mk3 wheels on a Mk4 ........ I'm guessing it's one of the very first Mk4s on an R plate ........ i can't read the log book stuff But it does look a very smart car, but then even mine does when it's " manicured " and mine's on 187k miles nearly Malc
