  1. ............. and my indie in Thanet in Kent is absolutely brilliant, not Lexus trained, apart from on my Ls400s since 2007 and on average 10/11000 miles a year for servicing and maintenance and those incredibly few and far between repairs. Message me if you would like his name and address contact details Malc
  2. .......... I'd be happy to contribute to a list of LOC Members independent mechanics that they would recommend .............. is that allowed Moderators ? Could you start one perhaps ? Thanks Malc
  3. .......... to be brutally honest ..... my hearing isn't all it was a few decades ago and distinguishing superb quality from not so superb just isn't within my grasp ............ I'm content
  4. ............ and there's me still using my tape deck on my Ls400 Malc
  5. .......... when the UCA suddenly goes, well mine anyway, I heard it actually go a dead clunk as I was traversing the Dolomites last year in Italy ....... but it still drove fine for a few months OK, until the car failed the MOT ....... I didn't know what on earth the sudden clunk was, but it was just the once and the car drove fine for the remainder of my Grand Tour ........... yours might be the UCA but it sounds like something rather more progressive happening. Malc
  6. FM vanishing when ? ......... . the earliest date I have found on line could be 2018 - or not ! Any thoughts ....... and also will our beloved Ls400 radios be kaput ? Malc
  7. wow, is this a rare Japanese import then ? I wasn't aware that the Mk2 ever had air suspension nor those style mats. Malc
  8. .............. looks to me like an old 1992 Ls400 with a bit of front bumper damage and old knackered house carpet cut for the front foot wells ! But the upholstery looks quite pristine ( the front anyway ) Too low a mileage to have ever been usefully used, worn out tyres as per DVLA MOT records which at 16k miles just doesn't ring quite true even though the tyres would have needed replacing from age alone and side wall perishing but not otherwise worn maybe....... 195.15 size tyres if I remember from my Mk1 Ls400 days. Steering column bearings worn too ??? wot's all that about in a 16k mileage car ! Sits ridiculously too high .................... and 24 year old worn mechanical stuff generally that's been totally underused ( maybe ) Not quite right methinks unless one knows the history of the car. Maybe I'm being unreasonably sceptical in my dotage Malc
  9. ............ just seen this issue for you guys. I have an old Mk3 Ls400 and the front skirt always scrapes and fractures even on an ordinary height kerb and this time I just had it removed and disposed of ........ not a perfect 21 year old car anymore but it saves me worrying about the damn thing ... and tbh it looks absolutely fine too. Malc
  10. ...... I vaguely remember the times ( the 1950's ) when in the Lake District the AA patrolman, on his motorbike and sidecar, actually saluted the Member ( my uncle ) with his AA badge proudly affixed to the front bumper ( of his Triumph Renown ). Malc a little nostalgia I'm afraid
  11. .............. I too would seriously consider getting your screen professionally re-seated, it might be quite simple to a professional. Malc
  12. ..... I prefer the leather options though ..... could never understand why, in an ordinary climate, anyone would go for cloth Malc
  13. ............ I sometimes used to get ( wind ) noise from the front nearside ... I guess it was wind noise, it vanished when they fitted a replacement windscreen. Malc
  14. ..... I doubt ASDA, a subsidiary of one of the biggest conglomerates on this planet, the USA Walmart, would be selling anything that's not totally fit for purpose ! But what would I know Malc
  15. ............. would you go to Ramsgate to have it done ? My guy there resprayed some of my Mazda 2 years ago and did a very good job. Malc
  16. ........... it has happened to me and then it's very very frustrating if I then want to start again quickly thereafter ............ I blame her indoors really ......... I move the car so she easily can get into the passenger seat, she decides something needs to go in or out of the boot ( it's a Mk3, it can only be opened with the engine off ) then we can continue our journey But I do now know what to expect so it comes as no surprise. I think it's only the Mk3 that has the boot not opening with the engine running btw Malc
  17. ............ there are several forum posts here somewhere about the two distinct motors that control the steering column movements on your Ls430. The individual motors are quite expensive and cannot seemingly just be repaired. Good luck Malcolm
  18. Robert, I'd be really interested to know how you achieve this in reality, with all the " doing " pitfalls etc, as I'm sure others would here too. Thanks Malcolm
  19. ...... mine is usually changed at every annual service and of late, looks dreadfully dusty and grubby. In years past on both my Mk1 and Mk2 and now this Mk3, the air filters have seemed cleaner at the service interval, so I'm guessing it's the road and atmospheric conditions locally that are causing the crap build-up. Air quality here in Kent, by virtue of the state of the Lexus air filters ( and covering 10/12k miles per annum ) is deteriorating and has worsened over these 15 years of Lexus ownership..... I'm assuming the filters aren't performing better at filtering the air ! So if that's what it's doing to our cars just think what it's doing to our lungs Malc
  20. this is so scary ................ can't see me ever replacing my Ls400 now A buddy has/had a V reg big Jaguar, beautiful car, worth nothing, had it years, almost from new and now given it to his son who too has deep pockets ................. just before he gave it to him last week a radiator hose went ( not bad longevity ) the £25 hose cost £850 with ( main dealer ) fitting ........... a pig of a job it seems ! He's replaced the Jaguar with a brand spanking new Jaguar AWD XF or summat .. sit up and beg big bugger, looks good; can't imagine the likely bills after warranty though Oh for old fashioned cars with longevity eh ! Long live our Ls400s Malc
  21. ............ when I replaced my Mk3 battery in 2012 now ?, I bought from the Lexus main dealer and it was cheaper than elsewhere ! but then the Mk3 battery holder is a different shape and needs the lexus OEM to actually fit properly. I didn't have any trouble finding a suitable replacement for my Mk2 car though at the time and not from Lexus Malc
  22. thought .......... maybe find an independent alarm installer to remove yours Malc
  23. .............. the fuse that disables the alarm on the Mk3 also disfunctions the steering column in-out movement ............... as your last resort I guess Malc
