  1. ............... at the right hand side at the rear of the engine bay .... big bugger dipstick top and easy to get to, even with big hands and clumsy fingers so even I can check mine Malc
  2. ...... and my reading other car type posts on this forum suggests that Lexus itself considers 100k miles to be " fair " for wear and tear ................... and then failure Malc
  3. hahaha,.......... reminds me late 60's seeing the very first of the Datsun's in the UK pulling up at the petrol pumps where I was an attendant ( anyone remember those days ? ) and me checking the oil dipstick and the bonnet strut bar thingy just bending under the weight of the bonnet ! They're much improved now with Nissan Malc
  4. Max hi, out of interest, and as I live on Sheppey too and will possibly need my aircon " seeing to " I should like to know which company did your repair please. Thanks Malc
  5. the only time i attempted to use the scissor jack supplied with the car ( my Mk1 many years ago ) I could see it wilting under the weight of the car and promptly ceased that manoeuvre ! RAC for me every time, well, once since on my Mk2, again many years ago now Malc
  6. I'm embarrassed ........ I thought I might have slightly ( b ) reached the 50mph speed limit ............. sorry not to have stopped for a cuppa but i was on a mission to get to Canterbury for the judging I mentioned ..... last time it was at Kings School there and i arrived with seconds to spare before the competitors started speaking ! Now that was embarrassing ( for me that is ) Malc
  7. I suppose he sold it back to you coz he couldn't cope with the 4 ltr power in those congested roads we see ...... parking and traffic jams were probably the main issue Malc
  8. OMG I remember my ( now ancient and long gone ) Wolseley 6/110 .... a 3ltr straight 6 engine, manual gearbox ( brilliant ) had picnic tables as standard, burr walnut I think and chrome hinges etc I guess ... not sure they ever got used though ! Malc
  9. well, I surmise they either can't afford to run older Ls's or indeed, they have so much surplus discretionary spending power that they all buy brand new Malc
  10. I often drive mine through the country lanes from Queenborough ( Isle of Sheppey ) to Rye or thereabouts, never really touch a proper main road if I can help it or a Mway, dodging under or over the M2 and the M20 The dear old lady loves this running around, no idea what fuel consumption I achieve ....... just lots and lots of pleasure Malc
  11. oh my ........... you'll soon miss the Ls .................. Malc
  12. probably just a back stop light bulb playing up ! it's been there 16/17 years and I know it's a failing of Lexus and mine only last about 16 years before they start to fail Malc
  13. nice looking Mk4, well done, she'll last you for so long as you want her to I'm sure Can't imagine what the MOT Tester was going on about with the corrosion and the outer sills being covered in plastic etc .... they don't arf av a larf sometimes don't they ! Malc
  14. QUESTION so then guys .......... is it certain that one should drain and refill that which has drained ( say 2 litres ) every 36,000 miles ? Malc
  15. you'll be wondering why you left it so long to buy the best car you've ever had ! Malc
  16. blimey, I've never heard of any car ever, no matter what age, having this Advisory ! sounds like a design fault Malc
  17. pearlescent white is brilliant, my first Mk1 was that colour. This one looks a lovely car and there'd be no rush for a cambelt change really. I'd sure buy it if i wanted a replacement .. just needs new carpets. Provenance sounds " sound " Malc
  18. I'm scratching my head here but I thought I read an authoritative post on here ( some months past i guess ) where the filter/strainer could be cleaned and not necessarily replaced .......... which replacement cost was a bit eye watering .......... did anyone else remember that post maybe ? Thanks Malc
  19. but what does Lexus " replace " mean in the 36,000 mile Service Record book ? to definitely " replace " whatever the oil condition as that just isn't mentioned. The video refers to a Jaguar and looking to change the oil at 100k miles ! Malc
