and any minor breakdown or service on the RR would likely cost the value of the Lexus ................. RR gravitas = £££££s I remember 15 years ago with one on our forecourt for sale, the tyres were 500 squidge each and the weight of the car just wore them down when moving, not bad driving or road conditions, just the car's weight ! ............ Gravitas can be expensive to maintain Malc -

sorry to hear of your deer incident .... many years ago at night, a sodding great big one jumped over a hedge, hit the door of my car, jumped over the car, jumped over the next hedge and was away ! ....... big dent in the door of my then car to be repaired ............ well shaken. but not stirred Malc -

probably just gently remove/release some of the housing at the rear of the unit to let a little air flow, then either wait for a warm day or turn on the lights .............. to assist evaporation Assuming you haven't got a hole somewhere in the glass lens itself then in that case just seal up the hole and do the evaporation assist above. Always worked well when on other cars Malc -

This is really interesting. My nephew who is looking after my 1932 Triumph Southern Cross Sports Tourer has just bought a GPS reading gadget for the speedo and that reads the car speedo as 10mph over the actual ............ . so 50mph is really 40mph and boy does it rattle and what with the wind through one's hair ( if I had any ) ........ !!! I have inherited Pirelli on the Honda Legend and besides being ultra expensive for the previous owner I find the ride quite uncomfortable and harsh on the Honda. I'll certainly be changing to Falken or Maxxis when the need arises. On the Ls400 I'm quite happy with the Maxxis 225/60/16 all round performance ........... so far Malc -

the Falken is decibels 70 the Maxxis is 71 but the fuel efficiency is G on the falken and F on the maxxis Both are wet grip C A is greenest so i understand. No idea what the wear profile is but i do remember getting really good wear from the Falkens which i had for many years and the Maxxis seem to me to be just a little less longevity wise, but i might be imagining that ! .................. @20k miles is a long time of my motoring ............. the life of a tyre The drive on both doesn't seem to be any different, but hey I'm old and forget what things were like in times past .. everything seems " rosier " now whatever -

sadly I'm advised that Falken no longer manufacture this size ( it's just about an obsolete size for modern cars ) and I'm using Maxxis, the alternative suggested by my previous Falken supplier. They tell me that Maxxis have a lower noise decibel rating too than the Falken and everything else is just about on par Malc -
blimey, thanks Steve, what a marathon read .. but so informative .............. I've advised my indy about the IACV and the Throttle Body and I'm sure he has done all that's possible there. I used to be able to look at the revs vanishing to extremely low but of course i can't do that now. ( I said earlier that the rev counter has gone a bit haywirwe but doesn't affect the car's running at all ) What i did notice when it looked about to cut out at traffic lights ( after that long run on the Mway ) that had turned to red, that as i waited for them to go to green the revs just slightly edged up of their own accord and then there was no fear of stalling. It doesn't seem to have been a Lexus Recall. The car drives brilliantly all the time and will doubtless continue to do so apart from this gremlin ............ that I'm managing to live with ok .................. anybody married here too ? Life's full of little surprises and ups and downs, this issue just keeps me more alert and on my toes and stops me from falling asleep at the wheel after a long run in sublime comfort and opulence I'll mention it again to my indy at the next service with the MOT .......... OMG it's due on 25th May Malc
-
Steve, I enquired of Lexus, a coupe of years ago, if I had any recalls outstanding ( the starter motor was one ) and I was assured there were none remaining extant. And this cut-out issue remains for me ........... Cest le vie ......... seems to be a Mk3 hiccup, I never experienced it with my Mk1 or Mk2 and no-one has mentioned it with the Mk4 Malc
-
PeterF. I've given up trying to resolve this issue on mine ... it does exactly the same as you're experiencing . from time to time ........... had all the stuff done to overcome it but it persists and no-one anywhere has the answer ....... live with it I guess ............ I sometimes at the crucial moment use both brake and throttle at the same time and if I forget then I just pop it into neutral, coasting along, re-start the ignition and zap it into Drive and away we go again until the next time Malc

when I last looked and studied it all for my 5/6000 mile Grand Tour of Italy via France and Switzerland back in 2015 ( ? ) I reckoned that a big breakdown would mean abandoning the car and getting home or just buying another car there and continuing on my adventure. As i said, I thought just for flat tyre wheel changes and simple stuff, anything more and the Recovery of the vehicle would have been greater than the book value of the car and absolutely no-one to my knowledge Recovers to Home in that scenario. Same applies to your car insurance too i think ! HOWEVER . provided your car is serviced properly before taking her abroad you should be ok as these cars rarely just breakdown and if they do then it's usually quite simple for a local garage to fix most things, brakes, hoses, power steering pipe leaks etc at not much money................ rarely does anything catastrophic happen mechanical wise ... you're running a Ls400 you know NOT a Beemer or Audi or VW Malc

I spent many years there too, selling good 2ndhand cars of all marques and we never let a potential customer pass without engaging him/her. So many of our clients, out in the sticks looked like scruffs and vagabonds when they were quite refined gentlemen farmers with pig poo etc all over but quite well minted ........ hahahaha, sheep farmers too. I am quite amazed when I'm totally ignored when visiting car stands at shows etc and when taking a car to main dealers for recall work or whatever, just how i am totally ignored and clearly considered worthless ............ has anyone ever seen Richard Branson not wearing jeans and looking other than worth a fiver rather than a million dollars ? sigh .......... from reading various posts here from time to time I get the impression that Lexus consider 100k miles to be about the life of most components and " fair wear and tear " precludes warranty claims ..... they take your money and run ! Good luck with the warranty claim, hope your dealer that sold you the warranty gives you great support with this. Malc -

doing a 35k miles a year commute will certainly " up " your insurance premium hugely I would think......... and you might be exhausted too. Good luck whatever, you won't have time to be posting on here methinks Malc -
I think it's appalling that the longevity of simple components is compromised these days by Lexus .. the pursuit of what ?? certainly not perfection or anything coming close. The more I read of Lexus expecting such failures to be " normal fair wear and tear " ( maybe not this specific one but hey ! who knows ) I read in another post that air suspension at 100k miles failure is simply all ok and not unexpected .............. aren't some of us so lucky having our sturdy steeds in old fashioned but uncompromised Ls400s Malc

and of course one should remember that the usual limit of Recovery is the actual value of the vehicle to be repatriated ...... and that will exclude very many cars. BUT of course it does usually cover you for roadside assistance and wheel changes and i guess taking you off to the local garage for repair if not done at the side of the road. The flat tyre syndrome is all that i think I would be needing tbh ........... the Recovery, well, the value of most of our cars would mean scrapping the car at the side of the road in any event abroad........ and the " other " part of the Cover getting us home somehow Malc

Battery fail
Malc replied to ambermarine's topic in LS 400 / Lexus LS 430 / Lexus LS 460 / Lexus 600h / Lexus 500h Club
I just replaced the battery from the local Toyota Main Dealer ( nearby the Lexus main dealer ) in Canterbury Paid full price but it was no £££££ dearer than an " ordinary " marque battery Malc
