'Cassic' car you wish you bought.
Malc replied to Flytvr's topic in Lexus F Club - Lexus IS-F / GS-F / RC-F Club
come on, get real, wake up, smell the coffee ....... the Wolseley 6/110 and other variants and very many cars of that era had a Starting Handle .... didn't matter too much about a dead battery at all Malc -
'Cassic' car you wish you bought.
Malc replied to Flytvr's topic in Lexus F Club - Lexus IS-F / GS-F / RC-F Club
the Rover Coupe I did have to drive at my car sales business and I thought over-rated but a good car nonetheless, The Wolseley 6/110 ( in Rose Taupe ? ) a straight 6 was a beautiful machine and I had the Westminster version for a very short time before it broke down on me and was going to cost rather more than the £150 I paid for it ........... back in the 80's I like your choice, maybe it's an age thing Malc -
I'm far from fragile and timid clearly you haven't been at the end of an HMRC Enquiry I have and thankfully my position was unassailed .... BUT without professional " Protection " ( c/o the FSB ) the outcome could have been rather more challenging... and totally draining. Believe me, when HMRC get their teeth into anything they will wring it dry, including I'm led to understand, private individuals not declaring their " trading " on Ebay etc I'm glad Old Baz isn't a Trader, nor can he be considered to be one ..... he'll be absolutely fine Malc
-
I suspect with the new HMRC trawling of ebay and the like he will get a visit at some time to explain his non-trader position .... if that's the case HMRC presently have a bit of an issue with profits from sales of anything by private individuals not being declared...... especially if it looks like it's a Trade... and then where does it end for anyone caught up in their enquiries Malc
-
any inference from the issue might just be that he often seems to suggest that he is personally getting rid of a specific car because he has a need for something different BUT all the cars the LOC is aware of seem to be Ls400s and then back to and fro to Ls430s I guess. This may be a personal preference for an individual who has a crisis of knowing what he wants in his cars OR it could just be that he is a Trader and the Members here have an issue with someone perhaps making out to be something he's not and Buyers not being aware of the Trader implications and responsibilities at LAW. The efforts, if indeed they are, to potentially misrepresent where car sales are concerned send shivers down one's spine ! Malc

not so good in the rain though ! and if you had hair, which i don't, the breeze through it would be amazing ....... . it can often be seen at Waitrose in Newmarket, my nephew looks after her and regularly takes her out for local spins in the country and shopping too ........... his kids love it, as do i when i visit and coz it's very challenging to drive ( the pedals are the wrong way around to a modern car ) I really enjoy being a front seat passenger with Biggles hat and glasses if there's the need Malc

Parts hahahahaha , no problem at all, there's a pre-war Triumph collectors club in the UK and there's a spares shop in Melbourne Oz that collected ALL the UK sourced car pre and just post war spares from the Agents throughout Australia when they closed down and they are on-line and supply too. When i was there last, in 2012 I think, I ordered a set of impossible to find points and they came in a brand new 70 year old Birmingham manufactured, Lucas box No problem at all, and there's really bugger all to go wrong that a spanner, screwdriver and hammer wouldn't sort out Malc

FOUR! Maybe we should start a new post to see who has the most cars. It makes my two seem like small change But it's the quality not the quantity that counts first is my 1932 Triumph Southern Cross SportsTourer .............. 18 years older than me even then the Ls400 then the Honda Legend 56 plate ...... brilliant car but to my mind not a patch on my Mk3 ............. except in the ice and snow then the dear old 1994 Mazda 323f that I love so dearly but if it's not gone by end of July then it's to the scrapper i guess Malc

but when one's on a tight budget then the prospect of just another £1000 or so for a repair, once or twice or more, really throws the car out of the ball park ! I know I've always been tempted to buy a £5/6/7k 1970/80's Bentley, coz they look great and are often in fabulous condition, especially at classic car shows BUT I do know with some certainty that even a regular brake service can run into £000's and what becomes a budget luxury car suddenly turns into another throwaway. People with money throw these cars away rather than spend cash on them, they just go order another new one at ££££STELLAR SO back to your dilemma, buy a great Ls430 with the problems already sorted at some other poor souls expense and then your nephew will have a great car and probably just about trouble free Keep hunting Malc

1993 LS400 opportunity
Malc replied to Peter_L's topic in LS 400 / Lexus LS 430 / Lexus LS 460 / Lexus 600h / Lexus 500h Club
Peter, I think you achieved a really good price for a relatively unknown quantity so far as potential costs are concerned, assuming the car is being re-commissioned. Well done Malc -

'Cassic' car you wish you bought.

I mentioned the Sunbeam Tiger a little back on here ... I remember in the late 70's I very nearly bought one, they were then an astonishing high £ 6k and would have really been beyond my economic reach ( my house was then worth max £18k )....... looking now at the USA where they fetch up to $250,000 ( £200,000 ) SO in all those years they possibly wouldn't have been that brilliant an investment compared to UK bricks and mortar I guess. BUT hey, the fun I could have had, that 4+ litre engine in that tiny body .. so now have to cope with that 4 litre engine in the big body with armchair comfort etc etc etc and old age -

LANCIA some beautiful cars, and in Italy when i was touring there a couple of years ago. I guess they have now the rust issues BUT I know in the UK the rust was a huge problem, a buddy of mine bought one brand new in about the late 70's and it FAILED it's first MOT on rust, it was scrapped ! They never got over the credibilty problem and just closed down in the UK. Around Turin, the home of Italian cars, you will notice many road crash barriers are rusty, unlike ours which are pristine galvanised and as are later Italy one's too. The Italians forgot to galvanise on a big scale. Malc -
LS460 - 1 year on
Malc replied to Dale_V's topic in LS 400 / Lexus LS 430 / Lexus LS 460 / Lexus 600h / Lexus 500h Club
that's an eye watering first year warranty cover price BUT you needed it quite clearly. I'd never thought to have spent that amount on my Ls400 in any year on repairs, no matter what the issues ..... the Ls460 is certainly not a car ( nor most newer cars i guess ) for the faint - hearted or those with mini repair budgets, or expecting mini repair costs ( like me and what I'm used to with the Mk3 ) Maybe I'll just never move on to a later Ls eh ! stick me in my timewarp and I'll be ok Malc -

my Mk3 Ls400 I had been thinking about buying a 2nd hand Ls460 or Ls600 BUT I wouldn't want the hassle of the known and likely issues. ... at my age and time of life I think I want simple " security " of knowing there aren't going to be any unmanageable or unwanted bills ahead We all know of the limited problems with the Mk3 Malc
