  1. in olden times I had a Saab and the key fob had issues when parked close to the mobile signal antennae in Ashford ( Kent ) town centre NatWest carpark Malc
  2. Lexus Dealer or not, all they want is to maximise their ££££ take from a deal and seemingly try any lengths to minimise spend on a used car before sale. There is little honour within car dealers these days ......... CRM ( customer relationship management ) and customer retention is " out of the window ". A quick buck is all that most seem to want. They follow banks in that regard (NatWest my gripe ) 50 years as a good and trouble free customer and I'd might as well have popped up from the gutter ( well, that's the way I feel about it anyway ) .. rant over, and it's non-Lexus, sorry Malc
  3. OMG your garage looks as big as my house lovely wheels though ............ I just might spend £250 and have mine refurbished next month ...... he tells me the acid dip and powder coating should see them good for 15 years ..... hahahahaha, if not I'll be claiming on his verbal warranty Malc
  4. looks good but at 125k I perceive one might just start getting rear suspension woes developing, however well the car's been looked after, serviced etc ! Malc
  5. my Ls400 wheels go either side of the standard speed bumps ! I guess not many cars are quite that wide .............. the whole road width ones are of course not quite the same tolerances However, I have lost my front lip to even low kerbs when parking up close and personal to one and had the remnants of the lip surgically removed a couple of years ago now ............. it doesn't detract from the look of my car at all ........ but then i am " old school " and perhaps a little more functional and accepting of slight intolerances and imperfections Malc
  6. ..................... and the end result was ?? Malc
  7. .................... just handle it with £3000 kid gloves I guess Malc
  8. on a lighter note ................ does it only happen when you have a front seat passenger Malc
  9. Applecross, no we missed that out, I hadn't realised it was so spectacular ....... do it next time around ( coz there WILL be another trip god willing ) BUT I do remember passing thru' Torridon itself. Just an overall fantastic trip and even a month wouldn't have given near enough time to complete a proper adventure of Scotland There are so many new roads built and even many coaches are now on those and attempting the narrow single track roads along the west coast and that really is challenging for ordinary motorists. More and more tourists bring wealth to Scottish outposts I'm sure but it does take away the adventure and idyll ambience that " used to be " Cest le Vie Malc
  10. hey, just about zero rust on mine, tiny tiny bubbles not yet breaking the surface at the rear edges of a wheel arch ................ just up to 198k miles .... might change it when it reaches 400k, oh, I'll be 85 then and maybe the oldest boyracer in Kent Really really wouldn't know what to change it for nor indeed why i would The Dunlop D8Zs vanished long ago ......... mine's aspen green too, lovely colour Malc
  11. there was definitely no other Ls400 in the whole of Scotland so it must have been me ........... or they were all hiding Plockton was on the run ( quite delightful ) Cocoa Mountain for hot chocolate at Durness and along to Thurso ( my how sad this is now with those town centre regal late 1800s buildings more or less totally redundant ) and i guess killed off by the new Lidl and Tesco ... John O'Groats now more user friendly than before ( free parking and no charge to use the " signpost " to take piccys ! ) We had afternoon tea with the Queen Mother at Castle Mey, well, tea in the Tea Rooms anyway ......... and just a most fantastic adventure with largely brilliant weather and very few midges. Even the coffee shops at Ullapool seem to have gone " upmarket " but what a magnificent and spectacular awe inspiring drive overall. It's a secret so don't tell anyone ............... BUT the drive in the sunshine back along from the SYHA up towards Gairloch village, looking across the loch is probably one of the best views in the world imho Just simply fabulous .... all of it ............... Malc
  12. I use Maxxis tyres which seem quite ok 225/60/16 ........... not quite the same wear level as the Falkens BUT seemingly there are now very few manufacturers of this size tyre I think i paid under £100 a corner ' all up ' Malc
  13. well there we are then ... 2435 miles done and averaging 29.5 mpg and that's taken at the 1550 miles mark .......... M'way and those dogged single track west coast roads and all over Scotland and back to Kent Fantastic journey, Lexus was and continues to be BRILLIANT ......................................... Definitely far more visitors on the roads in Scotland than 5 years ago and some pressure to find last minute accommodation ............. and I was remembering my first same trip about 30 years ago and I think then I was about the only tourist doing the self same trip. All the simple cafes have turned into gastropubs and bistros and searching for something ordinary and simple to eat was a big big challenge Brilliant brilliant trip and next time we go i guess it will be pre-booked accommodation and sadly that will take much of the adventure out of it ... and of course the volume of other tourists might just end up spoiling the whole event anyway. So many German and Dutch visitors particularly ...... and not another Ls400 and definitely the oldest car in the whole of the kingdom Malc
  14. My Scottish Road Trip starts tomorrow morning .......... 325 miles to South Shields first day then to Edinburgh and staying second night in Stirling ............... then the big adventure around Scotland really starts before heading back to reach home on Sunday 10th September and maybe some 3000 miles covered. I don't doubt Lexii will perform quite as usual and give us an amazing Trip Malc then to plan for the India trip maybe early next year ... or later 2018
  15. I wouldn't hold your breath over this .............. when i had, nearly 7 months ago, a zero damage to my car and 100% their fault gentle knock the Claims Managers said " soon " and 6 months is " no time at all " in the world of insurance claims ............. AND we are not there yet ! and I'm not making a claim and the other party had their work completed at a cost of just under £1k and paid for it from their own pocket too so I wouldn't bank on a quick and easy settlement tbh Malc
  16. Denis, so is your's a Mk3 ? or a very late left over Mk2 perhaps Malc
  17. it's not complicated at all .......... just pay up-front annually ( like i always do ) and when you sell the car claim back Full Months unused and a cheque is in the post within a few days Malc
  18. He's just replied, the car was sold on the 19th. Saturday ! so we'll never know any more about it i guess Malc
  19. but aren't they 5.7 / 6.0 ltr engines ? Malc
  20. I can't figure out why a main dealer is selling a 12 year old car at all ! ............. bit odd Malc
  21. The Mk1 and I think the Mk2 are non-interference NOT this Mk3 for sale at £200 Malc
  22. the Mk1 Ls400 belt was made of a kevlar type product ........ virtually indestructible ............. later belts, well, who does know I wonder ? Malc
  23. every day you don't use the ISF you will regret ............. the " other " car is just that .......... not worth buying, depreciation, tax, insurance servicing etc ...........just another ordinary car that you will think you're obliged to use........... but WHY ? Malc
