  1. hahahahaha ........................... might be me then Malc
  2. guys, I've just gone to the Kumho official website to see the tyres for my car, a standard Mk3 1995 with 16" wheels and the results for tyre availabilty is a big round ZERO that's presumably 225/60/16' s I suggest you put your 1993 car registration into their search section and discover ............... Malc
  3. for a private individual to shell out £80k on a new one or maybe £45k on a used just to " keep up with status " or to save money on fuel ....... errrr! ....... I would think to always keep my Ls and maybe buy a used older style Bentley for the fun of it ........ maybe it's an age thing ( me that is, not the car ) My Ls400 is a " forever " car methinks or at least until it's a write-off, or I am ............... hahahahaha Little Toyota later on in life when i can't see over the steering wheel maybe ...... and parking spaces become smaller .. but then a big Tesla is quite a big car Malc
  4. £121.90 a corner doesn't seem particularly great value ! But then tyres can be a minefield, also the use to which one subjects the car too I guess Malc
  5. insurers are a law unto themselves and there is absolutely no rhyme nor reason why the quotes vary so much . they are all thieves and you are obliged by law to line the pockets of one of them ! Just get lots and lots of quotes. Malc
  6. Mk1,2 and 3 the headlights are of glass, the later one's are plastic and will require refurbishment at some stage Malc
  7. hi, the Mk3 is 1995 - 1997 and a simple easy and straightforward car to own. Normal servicing is about all you need, everything mechanical and steering stuff lasts for 150/200k miles ( the life of most cars ), tyres aren't expensive, servicing by my indy isn't either. Longevity of the car and replacement parts is legendary. There was a Lexus recall on the Mk3 starter motor and if that's been done you will have a long component life' The cambelt and ancillaries is scheduled at 60k miles but in the USA it's at 100k miles ..... mine is next due in 2018 at 205k miles, ( the 100k time and 10 years ) Tyres I get about 20k miles, petrol, she takes 85.1 ltrs and when the orange warning light comes on there's usually about 100 miles left in the tank. My 2300mile trip around Scotland this month returned an average of 29.5 mpg but she usually gets about 25/27. in normal day to day running The supreme power and potential speed is fantastic, handling is far from cumbersome, she drives a dream and as fast or as slow as you wish, she always responds tirelessly and without effort. Parking is a doddle and she has a relatively small turning circle for such a big car. It's a much much better turning circle than the 56 plate Honda Legend I also have. A well looked after and serviced Ls400 will last you for ever if you wanted. Malc
  8. Had you guys noticed the very positive feature that the low low front lip has been removed ! well, compared to the Ls400 and others Malc
  9. Steve, was the car actually hit by another or did the springs just collapse through exhaustion and old age ? Malc
  10. hmmmmmm, whoever did the paint job didn't get a properly good match with the bridge But I like the " burgundy " , is it ? and I like the interior colour too .... the rest of the car i would find just so complex and daunting to drive tbh It would probably take me the rest of my days to learn what all the bits and pieces are for. Malc
  11. none known to my knowledge, my indy has tried absolutely every which way and can't solve this irritant. Malc
  12. Roy hi, The throttle body cleaning needs to be done from time to time BUT I can assure you it is not the fix for this common problem Malc
  13. just take it to a professional replacement company and ask maybe ? Then deal with the insurers Malc
  14. Roy, the cutting out happens to most Mk3s ........... there's no known solution that I nor my indy know of ( and he's tried everything he thinks ) ......... I just understand, after 6 years, just when that's likely to happen, slow down with left foot on brake and right hovering on other pedal. If I miscalculate I find that quickly popping it into N and re-starting whilst coasting works fine. As you say simply re-starting her solves the issue. Unnerving the first few times, but only seems to happen to me after a good run and sometimes when the weather is too warm ! If, as happens to me, I'm nearly home and get stopped at the lights just as it's about to cut-out, I just leave it in P whilst engine is running at the lights and by the time they change to green the revs have automatically just edged up sufficiently and she's " good to go " again without interruption. The only anomaly ( I think ) with this wonderful car. De-stress and try my solution maybe Malc
  15. John, that was always the issue, Lexus decided to make just a small part of the exhaust system from mild steel, those flanges and setting up of technical electrolytic issues or not the simple fact is that a £40 repair for me has given many years of extended life and all is still ok. Water, salt on mild steel sets up electrolysis and rust sets in ..... a simple, inexpensive and good repair at the time ( age 18-20 years I guess ) sorted mine out ok 700 squid is a lot to spend on something that might be nearly 100% all ok But these cars deserve money being spent on them ..... well, until those darned insurers decide a little knock is just one too far . I know my excess at about £400 is just about write-off value if it gets damaged.... and that's not even a tiny paint and repair job at a bodyshop. Best wishes with whatever you decide to do, I'm keeping mine, dents, dinks and all until the day it won't drive ( or i can't drive it more likely ) anymore Malc
  16. the flange disease cost me about £40 to have welded a few years ago now ............. everything else is good with the now 22 years old exhaust Just about everything else is good ........... FULL STOP Malc
  17. just ask them. they can only say yes or no ! ...... you might mention your age of course at the time just in case that's an issue for them Malc
  18. I've only ever replaced one headlight bulb in the 75k miles I've had this car ......... ( now on 199k ) . I was always replacing rear offside stop lamps on my previous two, well, two bulbs I think actually and over about 10 years and 110k miles apart from service items I'm of the " old school " ...... if it ain't broke leave it well alone .... coz you might just break it Malc
  19. I think you're wrong there ............... Lexus dealers staff possibly just don't have the incentive to worry about their customers, being supported by the " big brand ". The small private car sales people generally understand CRM and know how difficult it is to get customers and want to hang on to them and thereby ( fingers xd ) treat them properly. In my car sales days we had local, and more far afield customers visit time and again, year after year, changing their cars and buying for family and friends coz they KNEW we actually " cared ' Just my simple view Malc
  20. sounds like one of those annoying boy racer bikers late at night close by ! My Ls tone is just sublime ( well quiet anyway ) Malc
  21. it's easy to sell with advertising and transfer fees BUT not usually viable economically .... often best just to leave with the car ........ unless you want to transfer it to your new car of course Malc
  22. looks a lovely car ................ had it long ? did you think about the potential radiator issue and change it ? Malc
  23. that MK3 referred to looks a brilliant car and definitely " one to keep " ........ I would be at it in a shot if i didn't have mine Malc
  24. and ALL those cars from " Butterflies " days would now be worth a small fortune .................. appreciating assets i think ! Malc
