OK, I understand the card payment surcharge conundrum BUT I would have thought it much preferable for the customer to know exactly, with total transparency, what the price of the item being purchased is rather than the cost being added on elsewhere . coz that is simply what will happen. No one can expect a retailer to absorb say 2.5% ( say 4% for AMEX ) of the card processing cost to him in any transaction at all ........... Just Eat have simply added 50p to each and every transaction and that means the cash payers end up paying more and the card payers none less .......... Holidays and flights will be exactly the same ............ card payers will just NOT be given the opportunity to pay by card . the margins for the retailer are too tight. Simply I would have thought total transparency to be best and now the EU laws have made obfuscation the rule ! Sorry to rant on but this affects me a great deal ( and my customers ) in my business. All these relevant Qs ...............why don't you just ask the insurance Claims Manager that's looking after your claim ? They will tell you exactly what the position is going to be Malc -

and on mine, many years ago the EGR pipe was replaced but some on here remove it, and in fact on Japanese cars, the EGR pipe never was there. It is totally dispensable I believe. Malc -

I forgot to mention The Mk3 was the subject of a Lexus UK Recall to replace the starter motor. When you buy this car i suggest you contact Lexus UK and ask if it's been done and if not can they please sort it out ....... it's a simple but very long and otherwise expensive job to undertake. Lexus assured me that mine was sorted at the time, some 22 years ago i guess ! Malc -

a tick list ! well, I can't think of anything significant now that you say the cambelt ( and peripherals and waterpump ) has been changed at 127k miles The rusty tube running at the rear of the radiator might need replacing .............. the pas cooler pipe I think .... i have a post on that somewhere under " catastrophic pas leak " from a few years back, minor cost if fixed/done " right " but irritant if it just goes pop and lets you down somewhere awkward. and of course the car will cut-out after a longish hot run and you will have to turn off the ignition, pop it into neutral and just restart with the ignition key .. an irritant but you will so easily get used to that...... bit scary the first time but ALL Mk3 owners are used to that by now the heated front seats can't be fixed to work and the door mirror glass might go a bit red but nothing major to concern over....... replacement non OEM glass is quite inexpensive to replace. The bonnet struts might need replacing if not done already and there might be a boot leak that a new rubber will resolve ( check the spare wheel well for water ) Then just ENJOY the best car in the world for the next 20 years Malc -

hi, exactly the same age as mine October 1995 .............. they're not original wheels though. If you're happy with it's condition, service records etc then I wouldn't hesitate. Had mine since 2011 ( my third Ls400 and now 16 years ownership in all ) when I paid £1400 but with Full Lexus Service History Mine's now on 202k miles with very modest servicing and maintenance costs ... I'm just about to have the cambelt etc and waterpump changed at the 100k miles / 10 year interval and that's a biggy ££££ job BUT I'm keeping mine for the next 10 years so it's ok Malc -

Happy Birthday to Mike's illustrious steed ............. quite agree there are so very very few older cars around these days, mostly I guess coz of the comparatively low monthly cost of " renting " one and people demanding " new new new " all the time .... sad consumerism. Bit like kitchens, spending a fortune on something new when the old being ripped out is " retro " and also worth a fortune to someone eh ! ...... maybe like older cars will get if they are sound enough ........ I wish ( now where's my 50 year old Bentley S3 I should be buying I wonder ) Malc -
" old " " old " OMG never thought of my limo as ever " old " ......... just a little worn NOW my 1932 Triumph Southern Cross Sports Tourer is " old " and that requires very very little maintenance at all, none of this electronic gadgetry, ECUs and whatever ! Malc

I recall reading ( somewhere ) that the 95 Ls400 ( the Mk3 ) which mine is too, has a defect from birth with the ECU and the damned interruption and stalling after a good long run but as we know it's easy to adapt to it and just switch off momentarily and restart immediately to give good almost continuing running. ANYWAY the purpose of this post is to say that i did read that in the USA the Mk3 was recalled to change the ECU but not in the UK. So my surmise is that the guys in the US have a better ECU for the Mk3 and it just won't bugger about with the stalling issue if you get a replacement or whatever from there. Malc

the prior owner of my car was the Parts Manager at Lexus Poole, when he reinstated the original set-up ( he had changed it to DHP type ) he found just one spring had broken whilst in his storage ........... he re-instated the three original springs and bought one new at a cost to him of @ £100 ........ in 2011 So three original now at 202k miles and one new spring about 80k miles ago the car still seems fine regarding the springs.................... BUY OEM methinks if they are still available I don't think the car was very long as a DHP conversion .... just a few months Malc

In case you guys ever have trouble sourcing a simple mirror glass only replacement for your Lexus Just bought a replacement mirror glass for my nearside door mirror on the Honda Legend ....... cost £20.39 and very quick delivery from Order.( no heat and easy fix ) Cut to measure from my template, just a backing of sticky fix over the original 11 years old degraded misted.whitened mirror glass Honda Main Dealer replacement glass alone would have cost £202.45 incl vat ( plus maybe some challenging fixing ) These guys have many standard glass mirrors for sale at £9 or so but NOT for my 2006 rare Honda Legend. when I did my Grand Tours of Spain/Portugal and Italy in 2014 and 2015 doing about 5.5/6k miles each trip, the most galling interruption was the pretty constant flagging down by the police so they could look at this strange car and wonder at the style, shape and age doing such trips ............. no other reason that I could fathom for stopping me for a chat ! ( other than my amazing personality ) Malc

Longevity is excellent with proper servicing and a little tlc, things do wear out but when replaced with good quality will last another 150k miles etc. At 202k miles I'm still on original front and rear offside UCAs and 3 original springs ! ................... and of course the original exhaust. My third Ls400 and 16 years driving these amazing beasts as my main car, and probably having driven @200k miles in them Malc -
He works for a Classic car restorer business, I can get that company's details if you wish ? He is just one of the very professional guys who work there Malc

Original EM lasts 227k miles, well, that's not bad at all in my book ! The issue is will you, the owner get the same benefit again in miles and years OR will another purchaser be prepared to pay you for the privilege ........... I guess not at all really Maybe that's why so many of these fine beasts are now " gone " Malc
