  1. the lpg set-up might be causing an issue ? you do have lpg ? . it's in the name ! Didn't know the Mk4 had the stalling syndrome, thought it was just the Mk3 whatever, the revs seem ridiculously low in all the instances you mention Malc
  2. I would just tell him you are issuing the summons ( on line ) and that you will easily win the argument and he will have to repay the £100 plus the £60 ? Court fees too ........... that's automatic. Malc
  3. .................. rest assured you pay for it somehow ! Malc
  4. a thought ...........if the car wasn't as described i would issue a simple Court summons against him for fraud or summat ....... he will pay you the £100 plus the Court fees ( £60 ) if he doesn't return your £100 immediately ... i would think How did you pay the £100 / by card or bank transfer ...... has a bearing Chat with the Citizens Advice Bureau initially Malc
  5. .............. I always used to carry a short broom handle in my Mk1 Ls400 ( about 100 years ago now ) ............ so rare to ever need to lift the bonnet .... really just to check the washer bottle ......... any servicing was done by my mechanic and he could use his own broom handle if he wanted Malc
  6. That's odd ............. when I went on mine recently they told us that we didn't need to advise................. and that being on the course and satisfactorily completing it, the records were then expunged. Malc
  7. on my now long gone Mazda 323f the MOT reading one year was 10,000 miles out ........... but made up for it on the next MOT ok . the Tester just input an incorrect reading. It happens ! Malc
  8. yes I understand that but i guess the car possibly came from a " good " household to end up at a dealer in T/Wells Malc
  9. just noted the Ls600 boot capacity is only 330 ltrs Ls400 is 393 ltrs Malc
  10. looks a lovely car tbh notwithstanding it's being sold with a huge number of Advisories for stuff that really needs attention before the next MOT ( or even right now ! ) Looks like a Royal Tunbridge Wells phone number and maybe an elderly owner from a well respected address methinks .... might be good ........... and price negotiable to sort out some or all of the Advisories perhaps Malc
  11. last night saw a TV advert for a new car, on finance and an upfront deposit etc with FREE 3 years insurance ........... maybe a Peugeot but not sure wonder if something like that might be an option ! Malc
  12. oh my, not had a proper proper job for about 25 years now ( ex city banker ) ............. just own my own travel agency business now and semi-retired www.worldbesttravels.com Malc
  13. aha, but they have a limited life warranty of only 1,000,000 miles ........ pretty useless if you're keeping the car forever ........ must always read the small print Malc jokingly mentioned but true ............ I'll ask my indy about getting one at the next service ........ I know an air filter used to last two years, it's now down to one year, I live in the same general area so the pollutant levels in the air must be worsening I guess
  14. .............. and the original Mk1 Ls400 never did have any change by date or mileage .............. suggested by Lexus as I read on here sometime, somewhere ... and I understand it was a non-interference thingy so even if it did snap the engine wouldn't be knackered ........ but when the waterpump goes, well, how unfortunate Malc
  15. .............but even with the cambelt due by time/years it doesn't mean to say that the cambelt might go pop any time soon ......... maybe another year or two or more left tbh ........ i remember reading the true life expectancy of a Ls400 cam belt is @150k miles before it actually goes " pop " Malc
  16. ................ third party only insurance on a beat-up old Ls400 for scrap money or less, with a long MOT, might be an idea ! We dare you ...... ( probably impossible to insure tbh ) Malc
  17. ............. they would write our cars off for something as insignificant as a scratched bumper if you dared to claim ! Malc
  18. bit short on stockists .............. for me 100 miles away and I'm in Kent Malc
  19. that's a beautiful looking DS ............ but don't let the grass grow around it eh Malc or an auris , aygo, verso ........... does anyone care about these ridiculous names and the line-up of " perfection " ...... ****, where's our beautiful limos really gone ........ the designers lost sight of OUR needs methinks....... are we the grey ( old ) pound with maybe more money than sense I wonder .... I might well consider seriously buying a brand new Ls400 Malc
  20. side light bulb then about 60p Nothing complex on the lighting front eh ! Malc
  21. on second thoughts I think I recall it might have been on 17" tyres Malc
  22. yes i do, isn't it a lovely photo ACLex from whom I bought it some 80k miles ago back in June 2011, had put it onto coilovers, removed the springs, and it was thereby lowered slightly I believe. He re-placed the original wheels, springs etc and also I asked him to re-place the orange lenses to take it back to original all round Even now and on a really good day with a wash and polish, the sun shining too, she looks very similar ............. apart of course for having the original wheels Malc
  23. well done .............. you'll need a new £4.50 lamp bulb too ............ ( unless you're into HID £££££ or whatever fandangled modernism might have brought you to ) Malc
  24. Stuart, there's another post here somewhere about the highest mileage Ls430 and a guy in Australia is running his Series 1 and 2 cars still, the series 2 ( same as the Mk2 i assume ) has covered 1,100,000 kms but with full Lexus servicing forever .. so yours will last so long as you wish it too ................. Malc
  25. ah right, so we now add alignment of headlights to the standard " needs doing " Well done with the new MOT notwithstanding it's speed of achievement Malc
