  1. we'll be out of the EU by then and they won't get work permits I'll be bound Have u ever seen and driven on the horrendous Italian roads ? our Motorways are like axmister carpet by comparison. Malc
  2. why don't you just become a " boy racer " without doing a single thing to your beloved Ls400 That will take them all by surprise coz so few know it can beat almost any other car away from the lights or whatever ............. that's how i live out a part of my retirement if I'm feeling a little edgy and want to take the peeeee out of some weirdo on the road trying to impress. Malc
  3. that's amazing, £180 for 10 hours work .......... and to include the MOT Hope he showed you the old cambelt etc ? Did he change the waterpump too ? Malc
  4. water and electrics rarely mix .............. that's why people no longer have their engine areas steam cleaned. Good luck sorting it all out though Malc
  5. quite honestly, i think just about a zero uplift ............. for when it goes awry there's going to be a helluva issue getting someone, even at Lexus to fix the problems. I'm thinking that your AWD will be totally different to any other Toyota/Lexus AWD in the UK . but if I'm wrong then I guess you mat see some slight uplift in value. BUT it's quite usual that add-ons with a secondhand limo really hardly add value to the price achievable. Malc However, my AWD on the Honda Legend is a common feature and absolutely any Honda main dealer will be able to fix it
  6. ok guys,, the cost included absolutely everything including the coolant replacement too. He provided everything apart from the wiper rubbers coz I will use genuine ( cost £26.50 ) Lexus/Toyota which historically have lasted me 3 yrs/40k miles but they look the same as his normal rubbers at a tiny price by comparison........... and his are normal and def don't last that long. as an aside, I had to buy from Honda too the driver's side wiper blade for the Legend as his stock went to max length of the pax side on the Legend. Also the oil I bought from Wilko. I have this hang-up that some major oil conglomerate makes their oil and it's ok. It is ........ as that's all I've used at every service on each car I've owned for at least 10 years and the engines always perform admirably. ( He thinks I'm a bit dopey about that too ) So, £850 ( incl the wiper rubbers and the oil ) and incl. some 10 hours of his labour at his discounted to me rate of £xx an hour. No VAT as he is below the threshold. And I trust him with absolutely everything to do with cars and money. He is based nr. Manston Airport ( as was ) in Kent and if you wanted me to pass on your number to him I will happily do so. He told me off last time i gave out his number on here, a few years ago now ............. he is extremely busy and juggles his time to fit me in. I'm a happy bunny with my " like new " Lexus Malc
  7. Rico hi, my first Ls400 was a 1992 J reg Mk1 and had these same wheels and 15" ..... my 1994 M reg Mk2 also had these same wheels but 16" ....... my now 1995 N reg Mk3 also has these same wheels and 16" too. I really don't remember the difference between the Mk1 and the Mk2 apart from the size wheels The Mk3 is a totally differently built car, just looks a little similar tbh. It might be that the Celsior was booted differently of course ! Malc
  8. you might well have 15" wheels and tyres ( and brakes to match ) .... later Ls400s had 16" and the wheels are different but look the same ( 9 or 10 spokes ) your wheels look right style for a K reg Ls400. I'm not sure that the 15" wheels are interchangeable with the 16" ones, take care Malc
  9. thank you for your comments guys ............ sadly I was a little premature with the " cutting out " syndrome, it's just done it today but hey, I'm used to it and can cope ........ at least another 10 years and 100k miles methinks and the same indy mechanic I hope and I wasn't dreaming about the supercharged effect ............. it's just zipped me down the motorway like a big Merc AMG on full belt, but at tiny comparable cost ! ps total bill for absolutely everything was just only @ £850 ............... and I still use Wilko oil 10/40 semi synthetic overall the cheapest motoring cost of any big luxury car by far........ now into maybe 17 years of owning and running a Ls400........... and 10.5 years continuous service with my mechanic Malc
  10. The time had arrived, at 205k miles and 11 years to the day almost since the last Lexus change at 104500 in May 2007 I have had this car since June 2011 and 123k miles and as you may remember I decided to just follow the USA recommendation of 100k miles and 10 years ( ok I'm a year late ! ) My indy used Blueprint supplied cambelt, pulleys and waterpump, together with serpentine belt too ..... none of this had been changed during my time of 7 years and 83k miles Result, all old belts quite intact with minimal apparent wear and only just starting to show a slight wear level at the cambelt join seam. No evident cracks at all in the belt and no leaks from the waterpump. The pulleys were however worn and one more so than the other.......... but all functioning ok Also it seems the old timing belt had been one tooth out in its installation, within a tolerance of perhaps two.............. he advised me that the ECU had clearly adjusted the engine running to cope with the " one tooth out " fact. ................. The car ran very well in all the time I have had it, very quick and powerful but suffering from the Mk3 syndrome of sometimes just cutting out when hot after a long run . BUT NOW with the new cambelt set with zero tooth tolerance, well, blimey, the acceleration is amazingly different. I thought my old car was " quick " but now it's feeling just supercharged. Like a new car tbh. ..... and at this time, on the hour long run back from my mechanic, there was zero indication of the age-old cutting out that we all Mk3 owners tend to live in anticipation with. It was a full 8 hour job however and I had expected that so no surprises there ................. many years ago on my Mk1 I had the cambelt changed and that too was an 8 hour job. it just takes a long diligent time to do. There was also a full annual service and MOT. ................ with one Advisory to replace the other side of the rear UCA for next year. Replacing the wiper rubbers ( from Lexus / Toyota but they last 3 years and 30/40 k miles in my experience ) oil and oil filter change and air filter too............... sorting out one flat tyre slow puncture and after 5 years and 62k miles another weld on the ever so slightly blowing exhaust ( same place I think ). The plugs won't need changing till 120k miles or so. ( or 160k miles if they are 100k mile plugs, I'm not sure ) Plenty of tread on all tyres at least to see me through till the winter. All in all 10 hours labour ... a brilliant result I'm HAPPY Malc
  11. very lucky indeed ........... I used the AWD on my Honda Legend the other day .......... unknowingly driving through slightly flooded roads, reaching the point of " no return " with a really deep water level across the whole road width and seeing another car coming towards me from a really deep muddy boggy area alongside I decided no option but to follow in his deep furrows in the mud My Ls400 would just never have got through it all, any of it, BUT the AWD on the Legend came into play and she performed like a country Landrover just whistling through the deep mud without a murmur ........... the Lexus Ls AWD must surely be a great vehicle. Wonder why they only sold the single beast in the UK Malc
  12. so what is the mileage, service history, number of owners and any other useful detail to tell us please ? Malc
  13. I hope your Pirellis run well for you ok ........ I find them on my Honda Legend incredibly harsh and uncomfortable Malc
  14. I take it you don't just require the glass itself ? Coz if that was all you needed then there are some super stick-on's available at very low cost ............ about £20 or so Malc
  15. why oh why are these specific bulbs so ridiculously expensive ??? Over the past 2/3 years I have had to replace headlight bulbs on mine ( from originals ) and they cost about £6 each Malc
  16. I don't understand why the regn is blanked out at all ... if one wants to sell a car you do all you can to achieve that. Giving potential purchasers the ability to check out the MOTs is just one of those things......... which of course you can do with the known regn Worrying about fraud or cloning is a bit daft at that stage. Malc
  17. on value for money, remember I bought 1st September 2016 my 105k miles Sept 2006, 56 plate Full main dealer Service History, brilliant car ............ my Honda Legend SH-AWD for £4k Not the same as a Lexus Ls but quite honestly not far short. They seem to be great value for money tbh BUT it's not quite the same as driving my Ls400 Malc
  18. if I remember the wheels look similar but the early 15" have 9 spokes and the later 16" have 10 spokes ( I think that's the way round, it makes sense anyway ).......... and probably accounts for the different size centre caps Malc
  19. When Chris Vince did mine there were a few people/businesses around that advertised to repair the screens, surely they haven't all retired or vanished ! Malc
  20. only those on here Roy ! Chris Vince re-soldered the innards of mine coz I lost the display, a common event on the Mk2 I had at the time ... and i had a nice drive down to Farnborough ( was it ? ) , near the air show place at that time, many many years ago now though .. I didn't sell my Mk2, it was written-off by some low life vandal but I then bought my Mk3 from a member on here, 7 years ago now Malc
  21. not really a ridiculous price i thought ...... there were plenty of U Tube or whatever to tell you how to do it BUT you had to be rather adept at removing the cluster, taking it apart and replacing it, let alone having extremely nimble fingers to solder minutely .... and knowing how to solder ..... i thought £100 not a bad price to pay tbh At the time Lexus wanted @£1600 Malc
  22. well, I've been driving since 1967 ( was age 17 then ......... or was it 18 in 1968 I wonder ) and these past 16 years driving my Ls 400s has been quite a magical journey. Over 50 years I have driven very many cars, from top to bottom in stature and cost ( mainly through my car sales business quite a few years ago now ) and I would say that absolutely none of them have or could have given me the satisfaction in ownership and all round comfort of my Ls 400 experiences. Some have come close in comfort stakes, Bentley, old Rovers, Jaguars, big big Mercedes but they all come with big big recurring bills too. These old style Ls' are quite frankly second to none. Malc
  23. I visited him many years ago to have my cluster repaired on a prior Ls 400, waited while he extracted it, repaired it and re-installed it . all worked fine 01252 540463
