  1. my first Ls400, J reg 1992 car was exactly that wonderful pearlescent white BUT mine didn't have those chrome trim arches ! Malc
  2. I must be so so lucky with mine ...... now turned 206k miles and approaching 23 years and of my ownership for last 7 years and 83k miles, she has lived on the coast, for 2 years about 100 yards from the shore at Herne Bay and for the past 5 years or so on the Town Quay at Queenborough ............. all in Kent ..... and so full of salty air but ' touch wood ' still no signs of rust that's worthy of note. She's a delightful lady ☺️ Malc
  3. One wonders if any other screen fitting company would have had the same issues ? or is it just your provider being overly challenged I wonder Good luck anyway Malc
  4. blow me down, the Seller seems to have 3 more Ls400s for sale too ........... sounds too good to be true but hey, he's probably happy making a good profit on each eh ! Do i want another one too ? she'd possibly kill me if I said so .... she's already threatened me with some serious issues if i go and buy a " family " owned 1960s Austin Cambridge estate that's available right now n ................. now, that is a rare beast for sure Malc
  5. especially when £15k buys you a Ls600, old but not as old as this, and probably with Lexus Full Service History too ............... does this Mk4 have that over the past 20 years I wonder ! and a Roller, well, both a RR and a Bentley can be had for the same money too ............ Malc
  6. in the defence of my local Honda main dealer, they wanted to charge a fixed price to replace the front discs and pads on my 2006 Legend ( having been picked up on the last MOT and main service check and when the airbag recall was done ) and the rarity of the beast meant that my indy guy who looks after our cars recommended i go with the Honda quote as he couldn't buy the parts for the price they quoted..... ..... they probably had stock they couldn't hope to shift ..... never seeing a Honda legend from one year to the next ............. being much much rarer than the Ls whatever Honda kept to the price and the final fixed price bill emerged with just @£40 labour incl VAT,.................... about 15 mins labour charge. Not all main dealers are rip-offs at all ☺️ Malc
  7. probably not really too expensive ............ i think it's an 8 hr job at Lexus ... and no point not changing the waterpump at the same time even if it seems " sound ". Just one of those factors in owning such a wonderful car and reaching a 100k miles service interval ! Malc
  8. I think my solution above keeps the alarm functioning ok ...... just keeps it silent otherwise Malc
  9. my last post above refers and it's been a joy since NOT to hear the alarm going off erratically. Malc
  10. this is probably not very helpful as I have a Ls400 BUT I have just changed the aux / serpentine belt on mine after 7 years and 82k miles of ownership and I doubt the belt had been changed since the last cambelt change at 101k miles prior to now....... both belts seemed to probably have some '000s of miles life left in them, tbh Lexus belts have quite some longevity Malc
  11. Poor you, sounds dreadful ...............and I've not heard of this happening before from LOC members. has it dropped all it's fluid then ? or is it just an awful lot of mess from a tiny amount. Could it be something that's come adrift or arising from it's last service possibly, maybe overfilling the gearbox ? ... as I say, this issue has never been mentioned prior on this forum to my knowledge Hope somebody can see this and bring useful words of wisdom and advice Malc
  12. leave it in PWR, I find it more responsive in all situations and really notice when it's in ECO where I've accidentally nudged the switch on the centre console Malc
  13. you clearly don't understand the economics of running a business ... paypal charge about 4% to the retailer, wouldn't touch them with a barge pole Malc
  14. not sure why any retailer would ever want to take a remote card payment ..... I certainly won't in the future and I'm a travel agent ....... they can all do bank transfers in the future. We have had chargebacks where the customer is clearly lying to their bank and we still get charged back, even with proof of their lying ! ...... the retailer is always in the wrong .......... the banks and Govt are shooting themselves in the foot with this one ...... many retailers will eventually just stop taking remote card payments Malc
  15. I would also give them the registration too and also, when mine went bang I was asked about the appropriate screen colour tint ..... make sure you get what's correct eh ! Malc
  16. Andrew, you asked somewhere about tyres ......... i can't find that thread BUT I use Maxxis 225/60/16 at under £100 a corner " all up ". They suit me and my style of driving ok Malc
  17. me too, but last month was £26.50 for the pair BUT it's been about 3 years and 40k miles since the last purchase ........................ they do seem to have longevity .... must be better quality rubber than other brands ! Malc
  18. 17 years essentially driving the same car, Ls400s ........ from a youthful age 51 ( when I was maybe expected to have a Ls400 ) to now, age 68 and onwards to forever ....... hhahahahaha The turn of power and speed hasn't left the car BUT it has left me unless I'm actually in the car Malc
  19. Easy to identify if it's a Mk3 ............ there are no separate fog lights at the front, the fog beam is in the main light cluster. Malc
  20. the turning circle on my 2006 SH - AWD Honda Legend is dreadful too ..... notice it most when on the Starbucks Drive thru' ..... the first time i did it i had to do a reversing manoeuvre as I wasn't expecting such difficulties..... the Lexus is a breeze ............... not too sure about the coffee though ! Maybe it's the AWD set-up that's the issue. Tulpen that's brilliant, you learnt the lessons early on about sticking with the best car ever as a normal daily driving car .... I'm only about 17 years into it Malc
  21. never too late to get a Ls400 .............. you will enjoy it for many years should you wish .... well done is it a Mk3 ? mine is my third and newest Ls400, been driving them for about 17 years as my main car ...... 205k miles and just had the cambelt and waterpump changed so should last another 10 years / 100k miles ok Malc
  22. and just what might go wrong after the 100k miles, now reached .................... at which the Lexus warranty would classify almost everything being claimed for as Fair Wear and Tear, I wonder Malc
  23. it was always that a car from any sort of dealer, even a private person masquerading as NOT being a dealer, with any car over £1000, the dealer had a statutory obligation to fix anything wrong that was significant ......... not say a lightbulb maybe ......... and they always did for fear of Trading Standards actually taking an interest in them. And as this car is being purchased from a Lexus main dealer then it's quite unlikely there would be anything too much to worry about, especially if you bought an extended warranty after the first year's free warranty ................and checked the fresh MOT was clear and any Advisories sorted before delivery I can't imagine the regime for statutory stuff has diminished over the years.
