and everyone else too I would think OR indeed a simple reduction in the PRT Petroleum Revenue Tax .... but that's never going to happen .. the Govt revenue take all round from fuel duties must be quite startling right now ... BUT, well, it has got to pay for the UK missiles etc being sent to help Ukraine blow the EvilPutinee outta the sky, water and ground ............ I don't really mind if it's all ( well my contribution anyway ) going to " good causes " Malc

Windscreen washer nozzle
Malc replied to Ahmed464's topic in RX 300 / RX 350h / RX 400h / RX 200t / RX 450h+ / RX 500h Club
not sure about your car BUT on my 1995 Ls400 it's a pin in the nozzle job and woweeee success BUT on my 2006 Honda Legend it's a £14 nozzle that's just got to be replaced ............. modern cars don't make for a simple and inexpensive life methinks Malc -
.... and I'm reading on here of RX300 elderly cars are quite prone to terminal rust too ............ BUT if that's not an issue then replacing worn out bits and bobs after 20 years cannot be a bad thing to do to achieve another decade or so of incredibly cheap luxury motoring ..... that's how i would play this game ... if rust isn't going to be a short term killer for you Malc

our local BP garage is just branded BP it seems .... MFG is the garage proprietor ..... is that Asda now or is it Morrisons ? .. and the local Asda and Morrisons charge a different price to that too ... Pricing is barmy and methinks a bit of a con right now with toooooo much profit being extracted from us impoverished motorists Malc

my 90 year old Triumph at the Newmarket car show yesterday was probably the oldest car there . by a smidgen .. and the local blacksmith hasn't been near my car at all . far too much teccy stuff on it for that and he's probably too expensive anyway what with lots of ££££zilions of gee gees to look after and keep in truly " fine fettle " Malc

Ed ...... you are just a single one of us very very many with similar issues that feel we are simply going to be targetted and isolated at the behest of the " green brigade " , maybe inadvertently tho', causing us much discomfort and greater mobility issues in our later years ........ coz we are simply, and it's really as simple as that, being prohibited from getting around Malc

Lexus ls 460
Malc replied to Jeaningo's topic in LS 400 / Lexus LS 430 / Lexus LS 460 / Lexus 600h / Lexus 500h Club
just make sure the radiator has been changed to prevent the ingress of water to the gearbox syndrome and the other very limited issues common to the Ls460 are being addressed in time .... the steering rake, in and out works properly too ...... and the air suspensions all ok ( does this one have air ? ) Anyone else for some thoughts here ? Malc -
Where are you Mikael ? that might cause some hiccups with your accessibility to spares and parts . I can't imagine for one moment that blisters around the windshield would ever progress to MOT failure The window glass you might be able to source from a Breaker and it's so small they could probably post it to you, courier whatever . £700 seems a dopey price tbh . even with catastrophic postage costs these days Good luck with it all Malc
-
get him to fix the aerial .. if he can't, well, kill the deal ....... get a car that fully functions OR MAYBE I have a brand new Lexus supplied aerial in it's plastic wrapper in my boot ......... Mk3 . will that do ? ... Highest Bidder wins but min £28,000 please ...... I hear reliably that I'm the last person in the world with one Malc

which in Germany has just been totally abandoned . petrol and diesel can live ...... and indeed, as I've said before on here somwhere . it's only us loopies in the west that have this issue ... not sure how anyone's gonna cross the Gobi or the Sahara in an EV anytime soon ............. well, unless there's a solar power charger maybe .... NOW, there's a thought ! Malc

........ just been quoted £250 + vat plus £40 for the centre caps to be sorted too ... they take those to another local busineess to do ... so I'm down to £340 "all up" The centre caps are solid colour plastic so not sure how that's going to be sorted ........ I'll find out soon Oh, and these are the guys I approached for a quote just pre-covid and the price looks about the same .... at that time they said their work should really last about 15 years if the wheels aren't bashed about My searching might stop here . and the cheaper pricing is from a more local business too Malc
-
well done ... I'm sure Lexus mechanics just get their parts dropped off from the local Toyota spares dept ........ it all fits the same ..... Toyota Celsior and Lexus Ls400 . it's just a badging exercise for it's 100% owned " upmarket name " .............. disgraceful of them to say they couldn't get the parts .. you and I and anyone else would have just poped over to EuroCar Parts or whatever and bought them ..... someone definitely has them in stock ..... at least you've swerved the £150 + vat an hour labour charge at Lexus .. and the 200% uplift in spares price too NB get the wiper rubbers changed too maybe ..... I'm hearing there's a desperate shortage of short wiper rubbers right now too Good luck with it all Malc

looked at two brand spanking new "big" Lexus cars at a local shopping centre promo the other day at £52k and £62k respectively ...... the cheaper one was All Electric ......... enormously unimpressed with the interior quality vis a vis even my old lady at 27 years young and 239k miles I thought, wot a sad day ..... not looked at any other brand new cars ( or even used ) for sale for a very long time .. perhaps they're all looking a tad " average " to me these days Malc
-
wonder why the reg no. changes in the piccys ............ ? AND more importantly for Steve ..... if you just put the car underwater permanently with zero oxygen I think it might not rust either ..... the oxygen is the prime catalyst with the water and ferrous stuff ....... hence metal bits and bobs on sunken ships can seemingly last forever ...... unlike wood that rots ........ so save your nitrogen for summat more useful .. get a big pond and immerse your car, but permanetly in there ...... now then, wot to drive eh ! Malc

I would mention again ( first time way back ) that my very first UCA to go pop, up the Dolomites, was N/S/F at about 140k miles ( I think ) and that was replaced with a BluePrint one which only lasted a pathetic 40k miles or so ... later discovered Amayama and all now replaced with them . the BluePrint one then cost the same as the Amayama now Malc
-
I've just been quoted for all 4 wheels, leaving the car with them, £ 410.40 incl vat by a local Gillingham Kent coy that says it refurbishes 28,000 wheels a year I'll be getting some more quotes tho' Malc

I'm thinking, from your personal experience now with your own car and endeavours, that even at a relatively low mileage of 90k miles, owners of our beloved Ls400s will be just " letting them go " rather than undertaking these stupendous efforts and costs ... there's no point trying to think there's any value in an aged, even not very much used car when faced with those stupendous costs PLUS labour charges My actions with mine over these last 11 years and 116k miles of ownership have seen me paying out for all 4 UCAs and other suspension stuff from time to time .... mostly bought at a good price from Amayama and fitted by my indy at sensible cost too ..... I think for parts over these recent years I've probably spent about £2k ... but she has done 239k miles now and drives a dream . especially now I've spent out £300+vat for the front exhaust box to be re-fabricated , fitted etc ........ she sure does sound sweeter than ever thankfully My next service and MOT is end of the year ........ so another 6 months to go at least PAUL .... you have done sterling work and budgetting with your car, very well done .... just don't prang the old lady eh ! Chatting with my son-in-law the other day about the lifting of the lacquer on one side top edge on mine . he's a very very professional and competent bodywork preparer and sprayer of classic and other high-end cars ..... he's amazed the Lexus finish has lasted so well, very complimentary BUT amazed was the word .. most cars would be showing these signs or very much worse at 27 years and 239k miles young Let's not forget, it's a car made of metal that rusts ...... and whatever we can do as owners to help prevent it happening, short of cossetting the car and never using it ....... rust will prevail to some degree .. we must expect the inevitability of an " end of life " approaching methinks ..... whatever else we may wish for to happen with our cars NOW, the other point he told me was that no matter how much " newness " he can impart to a car's bodywork and paint . the rust WILL emerge again at some stage ..... as night follows day methinks Malc

sorry to read of your misfortunes arising here ........ sincerely hope you're going to get satisfied soon ..... ............. lucky are us mere mortals with ordinary cars that can only dream to motor at 100mph these days on normal available roads I remember driving around your beautiful isle a few years back and wondrous new roads in the Republic benefitting from some huge EU funding schemes ........... many of which could possibly be good for regular 100mph jaunts too ... is your Armagh speed limit still 70mph ? Low Mile LS430
Malc replied to Rory's topic in LS 400 / Lexus LS 430 / Lexus LS 460 / Lexus 600h / Lexus 500h Club
My Ls400 still has the original sound system with no repairs, additions, deletions nor amendments . the cassette player still works astonishingly well too Malc -
Moonraker hi, what's the mileage ? could it be UCA time ....... without a load on board mine went " crunch " quite a few years back up in the Italian Dolomites ....... stopped, investigated and nowt seemed an issue .... got back and some months later she failed on the UCA that side .... guessed it was that at the time ... made zero difference to the driving of the car at all ........... OR it could be a loose exhaust shield . one of mine just loosened a fraction and made cruchy noises on one specific not so local speed bump configuration ..... after happening a few times and only at that location and over many months, and after investigating further, the offending shield was surgically removed . only one bolt holding it back from dropping off it seemed Doubt it's anything too serious to worry about ... it's a Ls400 with sometimes self-healing capabilities Malc
