  1. Steve, that's the problem us old Ls400 /430 owners have ( incl. JPJs )............. that's the concept of having to look forward to claiming on a Lexus warranty, quibble or not, it's the fact that one has to have the security of the warranty in the first place ....... we're ' inured ' against that concept of having such an unreliable, ............. potentially so,............ car Malc
  2. check out the MOT history can't make head nor tail of it tbh Malc
  3. Steve, is there a probable time-line / mileage at which we should all be looking to have our ECU's overhauled to ensure we remain trouble free ? Thanks Malc
  4. Many congratulations, well done, she looks a beaut .................... maybe one day I'll pluck up the courage to follow your lead ........... maybe in 3 years when you come to part with her Malc
  5. I don't understand this difference in the insurance costs for a UK car and a Jap Import car ... for the same car, shape and mechanics, and of course aren't all our Ls's imported whatever ! Does anyone understand ? Can Adrian Flux guy explain please ? ................ it must be simple surely, there has to be transparency in today's financial world ...........it's insurance Malc
  6. Not my very first car BUT ....... 50 years ago I had a 1965 Cortina Mk1 ( don't think it was a Mk anything then ........... it was the first ! ) and the first boy at school to have my own car to the chagrin of many a teacher at the time Malc
  7. there's a more worrying issue that you might like to consider having effectively bought your fabulous car through the auction that is: Has the radiator been changed ? to prevent the gearbox water ingress issues If you know all about the idiosyncracies of the Ls430 then i apologise upfront for mentioning this. Malc
  8. just for info .. when at the service before last my indy thought one of my pins needed replacing he managed to find an odd one in his " stock of bits and bobs " but not from a prior Ls400 ......... just some other odd car. A non Lexus pin just might suffice if you're lucky to have someone with a few odd one's lying around .......... like your indy mechanic Malc
  9. don't be quite so certain ........... my Honda Legend was the subject of a claim from a 3rd party's Claims Management Company ...... long story BUT in the end they just simply passed it over to their clients own insurers AXA who then had to start the negotiation process all over again ........ no damage whatsoever to my Honda Legend ........... this was from February 3rd 2017 ....... doubt it will be settled anytime soon, well, not this year at any rate AND I doubt the 3rd party will win anything from anybody .... had they been hiring a car etc they would be well broke ! As it was, they had their damage repaired and paid for it themselves at the time BUT coz they were fully comp their insurer actually paid the bill ....... likelihood of recovery of anything from my insurer is just about a big fat zero Malc
  10. not quite......... . there can be quite a difference between ' old ' and ' bangers ' ............. and ' old bangers ' .... we like to think we have old and quality Malc
  11. BRILLIANT well done Enjoy many months/years of outstanding motoring Please put up piccys etc and keep us in the loop as the months progress Malc
  12. M584UMD his Ls400 ............ is actually a Ford Mondeo with zero MOT .... so not sure how this all stacks up ...... maybe his write-off just wasn't insured whatever and maybe whatever snapped underneath wasn't able to pass an MOT .............. Malc
  13. I would think there's an upholsterer somewhere that is used to re-padding car seats . assuming the leather covering is all ok, the innards just needs revitalising Not come across it before but it makes sense 😊 Malc
  14. having had the above done can they re-align it all ok ? or not ? If they can then maybe that's all the issue is ! If not then you probably have that unforgiving more serious problem to resolve Malc
  15. Roy, has your seat collapsed or summat ? is it repairable maybe ? Malc
  16. GAP insurance is just that and the insurer makes a profit coz the likelihood of a claim being made is amazingly remote ..... like all insurances Once the fear syndrome is in you there will always be, to you, a valid reason to insure The insurers win hands down overall. But it's up to you which insurance company you decide to line it's pockets with your hard earnt ......... or none at all Malc my house is maybe 450 years old and i pay insurance every year ............. the likelihood of a catastrophic ( or any ) claim is clearly negligible and over the centuries the insurers may have made a fortune insuring my house ........... would I cease paying insurance, well, no .......... The fear is in me that it would be just my luck to run out after 450 years
  17. me too BUT I do know that when my gauge starts to go in to the orange then there's about 100 miles left in her. How I know is that the tank is said to hold 85.1 ltrs and the difference between that and filling to the brim is always, without fail, about 100 miles. I remember a Jeremy Clarkson running a car somewhere until it pulled into the petrol station on fumes that had meant to have already been used up. So there's probably more in the tank than you realise tbh BUT your boss lending you £20 ...... is he a Sunny lender charging 1291% pa ? you now owe him about £30 Motto, always have some cash in the car ( maybe a tenner ) and never let the juice run out Malc
  18. you'd better be sitting down with a stiff whisky when someone tells you Malc
  19. of course it's yours .... best 1995 car ever methinks .............. Malc
  20. and when you come to sell in 3 years time a few dinks will be perfectly acceptable and make no difference to the resale value methinks ...... bear in mind these are essentially insurance products at which the insurer, on balance, always makes a profit ! one buys these products once the fear syndrome has been installed ............ I'm surprised they haven't invented coil spring break insurance for when you hit a pothole .. ah ... maybe they'd pay out too much on that one ! Malc
  21. there's a market for everything ... my bro-in-law bought a pristine Austin Cambridge estate ( 1960's) for £10k some months back, rare as hens teeth, beautiful car ....... just had to spend £8500 on a new engine and gearbox and welding to make it properly driveable ............. cost £18500 .... realistic value right now about £8500 . and it's probably going up for sale . he's past the fun stage and wants to recoup some of his dream car costs ! One or twoLls400s are possibly like this tbh Being an ex car dealer I know people get rather carried away with their dream and spend fortunes on cars .. the full respray etc costing £10k on a car only worth £5k even after all the love and affection/attention ..............full nut and bolt re-build, spending £100k on a car worth, well, say £85k................. reality eventually sinks in I'm afraid BUT some are really good value, especially those where someone else has spent all the money and are available to buy on their resale Malc
  22. I think that's possibly a little blushing of your wallet Malc
