  1. in general and in my old age view ... people usually worry a tad too much about superficial bodywork issues, the tiniest of scratches etc . BUT of course, it's their pride and joy ! and they can Delhi is my prime example I guess ( in my experience over recent years ) ........... no one, absolutely no one stops for a dent or a scratch or even a minor'ish collision ......... if a bumper falls off in a knock, you just stop the car, pick up the bits on the road and swear and shout a bit and carry on your journey ......... it's life, it's only a car No one takes any notice of it............... there's never enough speed to do terrible damage ..... you just avoid the elephants mainly, Malc
  2. 2007 Citroen Xsara top of the range with 60k miles and Full service history and new cambelt etc at £1200 a few months back from my indy for my daughter. Written off by the insurers prior to him buying it at auction, write-off caused by likely cost of repair to a small dent on the rear wing and the front bumper ( one bracket ) being snapped off ... everything sound, he didn't repair anything ............. car drives a dream and you wouldn't notice any damage that wasn't cognisant with a 10 year old 60k mileage family runabout.. Guess he made about £500 on the deal after giving it a service, cambelt change and new MOT Some write-offs like the above are fine BUT beware, many others are just heaps of pitta waiting for the money pit to open ONLY buy a write-off if you know the history, the seller and the extent of the damage prior to repair Malc
  3. I have checked my 2006 Honda Legend and YES it sure does have the transmission tunnel over mat/carpet too Malc
  4. Brilliant car there Steve. Those days have gone sadly ............. these Ls400s / Celsiors were totally undervalued at that time In December 2007 I bought my Mk2 Ls400 with 8542 miles ( genuine totally ) for £3750 Malc
  5. I think you're right there, I'll take a look in a mo ........... the thought that my starter motor might need replacing in the ( 2006 ) Honda Legend £550+ turned out to be a failing battery ( not quite 4 years old ) thankfully Malc
  6. maybe I'm just a bit old and gnarled ... I had my own car sales business a while ago now ..... quite successful, loved it to bits most of the time but could never commit the 24/7 that my partner wanted to ........... he was brilliant at it. A few years later I saw the local Lexus franchise advertise for car sales staff ...... I thought like you, loved my Ls and couldn't think of a better role in life ( for work ) All my experience, love of the job and marque and .......... didn't even get an interview So you're coming at it with zero experience is probably a good way forward ................. you'll do very well Good luck Malc
  7. Matthew, good luck ............. just make sure it's a role you really really want and it's not just the thought of being with Lexus all day that is swaying you Malc
  8. Two Japanese guys pop out to push the cars in front and behind you out of the way when you need a little more space to park Malc
  9. mightn't the tips of the plugs be too sensitive to clean ? Malc
  10. then just change the wheels over on the spot and get a new MOT on the spot ......... ?? The Tester can do that surely ? My indy actually takes my car to the MOT he has arranged and deals with issues like this " on the spot " AND I would anticipate the Tester mentioning that he would be failing that specific tyre if it were to be on the car when he came to actually " test " that specific tyre there's surely simple and logical sensible ways to overcome such an irritant ! .... and inconvenience Malc
  11. wow, never heard a Ls400 roar before 👍 Malc
  12. Really difficult to tell in the Triumph tbh, 40mph is really only about 30mph and their magnificent 60mph is probably nearer 50mph and impossible to keep your hair in check ( if one had any ) That throaty growl that we just NEVER get from our Ls400 V8s eh ! Malc
  13. hey fellas, I can do this on my ordinary Freeview TV stuff I'm absolutely zero at technohead stuff and have just a FREE freeview box attached to my TV ... I spend zero on Sky or anything like that .... I run a Ls400, it's in the genes Malc
  14. If you wish I will gladly try to contact him personally for you next month when I go for my Grand Tour there. Just let me know within the next few days with what info you have that I might get in touch. Malc
  15. good reviews can be manipulated, eg from friends and relations etc The bad reviews are doubtless genuine and a clear warning to those that bother to read them Malc
  16. Anthony, probably about 1000 x what you initially paid for it £25k My old 1932 Triumph Southern Cross Sports Tourer I think cost about £230 new and today is possibly worth about only 100 x that ...... secondhand in 1950s it was probably worth about £25 too Keep your Ls400, you never know, one day, inherited by your great grandchildren, it too might be worth £25k AND far more comfortable and reliable to drive than either of those two classics Malc
  17. and cost you about £30 in the late 1950's ? Malc
  18. Take care coz even winning at court and a Judgement for monies doesn't mean to say that the guys actually have any money to pay you ! Taking the car back to them might leave you totally lost out financially crooks abound and most have no assets and giving them your car might just line their pockets. Crooks don't usually play a fair game just take great care in all you do going forward Malc
  19. Thank you for the clarity here This alone will possibly get the MOT station struck-off by the DVLA I think you should be reporting this sad tale to Trading Standards forthwith and asking the garage, in writing, to refund all your money in total PLUS all your out of pocket expenses too. Depends how you get on with asking them all this I would then seriously consider a Small Claims Court process ( take care about the max amount you can claim in this process though ) if they fail to settle very very promptly I would ask Citizens advice Bureau or your own solicitor for some guidance here right now It's a bugger ! Malc
  20. so are you saying that the garage that sold you the car actually passed the MOT with the dangerous Fails from the Irish MOT extant ? OR are you saying that the car was sold to you WITH the dangerous Fails from the Irish MOT and therefore it was genuinely sold to you as Unroadworthy Condition ? and therefore you should never have driven the car on UK roads until it had a proper MOT ? and all issues covered to get a proper UK MOT .... I'm assuming ( wrongly maybe ) that the Fails in the Irish MOT would also be fails in a UK MOT I think some clarity is needed here Malc
  21. it is, I've only ever left it to my indy to change the wiper rubbers ..... never changed the actual blades........ he did once and cursed ............. I buy the Lexus / Toyota wiper rubbers, about every 3 years, 35k miles or so OEM lasts so well............. about £26 these last ones, much better than other rubbers on my other cars where I've used run-of-the-mill wiper rubbers from my indys usual suppliers, like Ajay or EuroCPs etc at say £3 a pop Malc
  22. very very rare car ............... even the newer saloon Honda Legend is quite rare Malc
  23. how did the insurance work out ? Malc
  24. I feel the same about our Ls400 armchair comfort ....... I'm off on a Grand Tour of Ireland on 4/5th September, returning on 3rd October ........... reckon about 2.5/3k miles maybe from Kent + sea crossing I'm reading fuel prices in Eire are less expensive than we are paying here ! Malc
  25. If you read it's MOT history it's either had a few changed speedos or summats really weird with the car mileage ......... I'll pass on this one ty Malc No point hacking JPJs post on irreverences let alone irrelevances
