  1. absolutely so with the Mk3 ......... from a post on here quite a while back, my indy found the sensor just in front of the centre console drinks flap and was able to prise it up and turned down the sensor effect ....... peace now reigns thankfully I was having the alarm bells ringing whenever for no apparent reason at all from time to time Fingers xd it's stopped being triggered by objects ( or even no objects at all ) inside the car now Malc
  2. well well well ........ what a turn-up eh ! the new rear o/s UCA seems absolutely fine but a pitta of a job ....... now done and the front drop links in throes BUT the n/s FRONT UCA replaced with a Blueprint part some 3.5 years ago and 40k miles is a cause for concern ... it's causing undue premature tyre wear and needs replacing asap My indy is unhappy at the poor longevity of this Blueprint part ............ he's dynamically researching a replacement from the Amayama and Rockauto and Lexus Birmingham sites I'll let you know how we get on with this ...... amazing that the front o/s UCA is still original and seems absolutely fine and now on 215k miles and 23 years young Front pads and discs too are getting very low and he thinks time for replacing too It's only money and after 7.5 years ownership and nigh on 100k miles I'm far from complaining Malc
  3. ........... but over the many years reading these columns I'm thinking I remember something simply about the creaking and a simple washer or summat ............. but maybe toooooo many years ago now when the Ls400 was the main point of this section of the forum time moves apace ............. Malc
  4. thank you for your kind pointers ...... my tilt and in and out stuff works perfectly fine ( fingers xd ) the problem is simply the occasional light creak when steering ..... very rare but it is there sometimes ......... maybe I'll just leave well alone until it develops unbearably or until courage develops in sufficient measure to start dismantling stuff Malc
  5. sounds like you've had a bit of a challenging time of it all Do tell more about your ' new ' car , piccys, miles, costs etc Malc
  6. Guys, I noticed very intermittently over recent weeks a very slight creak coming from the steering column, like a dryness and a bush needing a bit of lubrication ! remembering some years past this being mentioned a lot on early Ls400s and a simple washer ? solution maybe Any thoughts as to where I could find the specific forum threads or indeed the simple solution that was mentioned at the time ? Thank you Malc
  7. dreadful MOT history too ............ worn out steering wheel .... but it seems to have a few spare tyres RUN Malc
  8. one would want to change the original radiator to prevent the gearbox terminating the car's life is the main issue now with the Ls430 take care with the air suspension being absolutely fine and steering column motors not being kaput delamination of the double glazing and maybe a prior owner has had some rust door / boot lid sorted under warranty ( 12 years ) and I'm thinking there are a few others like headlamp adjustment rust issues etc too BUT others on here have a better handle on all this . I've never had a Ls430 you should try to find a good one and enjoy, capable of stellar miles too ...... just like your old Mk3 Await the further advices from good and Ls430 knowledgeable members on here ...................... Malc
  9. I wonder if they replaced with wrong length springs at the time ! but then all 4 corners look " wrong " Malc
  10. the good thing about not winning the lottery is that one can often have a really good Ls without doing so there do seem to be some bargains about compared to owning other marques and the associated costs Malc
  11. welcome back ................. enjoy the forum again 😊 Malc
  12. just research the proposed Ls430 you're likely to get ........... you do know there are a few tell tale signs to beware of when looking for your one eh ! ....... there's nowt quite like a good Mk3 Ls400 you know Malc
  13. looks very high sitting to me, very weird maybe summat to do with the two front springs having been replaced over recent years and a hardish life in such little miles at some time ............... all a little strange, maybe a case of underuse hasn't done it any favours ! .............. reading the MOT history on reflection, the strange excessive uplift in the car's height needs some serious investigation by any new purchaser .............. summats wrong I think Malc
  14. facebook or god google .... the russian spies are coming ........... there has to be a trump card in there somewhere Malc
  15. I've only ever used regular unleaded and zero additives .............. now 215k miles young .............. if in another 215k miles summat fails I'll just know I'm not doing it right I'll let you all know Malc
  16. I don't think ours are boring at all They just rarely have major issues but when they do they are quite exciting ............. and excitement is in the eyes and the mind of the beholder ............... Malc
  17. take it to a competent user of the equipment ................. no use to you but I go to Treadmark Tyres in Canterbury, who I first used for this some 7.5 years ago when I first got my Mk3 and on the few occasions since when work has been done to the suspension set-up stuff and re=alignment being required. It comes out reading green all over when they've finished AND it's probably about £60 now .................. for all corners to be sorted You've been ripped off methinks by a load of incompetents Malc
  18. to my knowledge I've had mine done a few times now and before and after always shows everything green at the end of the process Malc
  19. presumably it was immovable with a wheel missing and the steering totally useless ? one couldn't get inside maybe ? why else would anyone use a forklift to move a car ? that's damage inevitable Malc
  20. The Worshipful Company of Tobacco Pipe Makers and Tobacco Blenders ..................love the occasional cigar, my nephew is a member of this Livery Company and when I'm invited to his annual Court Appointment meetings in the City I do so enjoy a cigar or two too Malc and don't get me started on the Guinness . after my Ireland trip too
